How To Upload The MySql Database To WebServer

Feb 24, 2010

I am developing a webapplication in ASP.NET 2.0 and MySQL 5.0 Now I want to upload this application to My WebServer (The windows web hosting space which I have purchased).

But I am not much familiar with MySQL, and I Don't Know how can I Upload the database on web server. This database contains approx 14 Tables and 95 Stored procedures. Recently I have developed some small web applications in asp.net with access database, at that time uploading was simple(just upload the access file to App_Data folder) But I don't know how i can do this with MySQL.

Web Forms :: Web Page That Allows Multiple Database Row Updates

Feb 21, 2011

We currently have a page with a listview control that has textboxes and an update button for each row. Users are able to update the database one row at a time. This is problematic in countries where the internet connections are very slow because a round trip is needed for each row update and this can become impossible to use.We need to create a page which allows multiple row updates so that each round trip is more productive. There woudl be just one update button on each page and users could enter values into each row. Clicking the update button would update each changed row
of the database. We currently use linq 2 sql. I would imagine that we could still use this in the above scenario??? Or is there a better data connection methode to use in this scenario.

Automatic Upload Of Data To A Webserver Database?

Feb 4, 2010

I have a question what's the best way to accomplish the following task:

- I have an ASP.NET application with SQL server database (hosted externally at any provider)

- There are a few dedicated client computers anywhere in the world and these client computers shall run a periodic automatic process to upload some data into the database of the webserver. So there is NO user in front of those computers to open a browser and run any kind of upload manually. (These automatic processes are not part of my question, they can be windows services or simply running applications on the desktop.)

My initial idea was to use FTP for this purpose, means: Those perodic processes on the specific clients create files and put these files via FTP in any defined folder of the web server.

But what follows then? Is it possible to have any eternally running process on the web server to process those uploaded files in the FTP folder and write their content into the database? As far as I understood until now an ASP.NET application has sessions and an application process but a session shuts down as soon as the associated client doesn't send a request for some time and even the application process shuts down when no user at all sends a request for a specific time. Isn't it? So in other words: When no user sends any requests via HTTP my application on the webserver is simply not running and therefore cannot process the FTP-uploaded files. (Or can I keep the application "artificially" alive to run a peridic lookup for new files ???)

The other option I had in mind is to program a piece of software running as a windows service which could pick up the FTP-uploaded files and process them. But I have to consider that possibly the hosting company does not allow to install any service programs on their servers aside from the ASP.NET application. So this is probably not a real option.

And now my third idea is to develop an ASP.NET web service which runs on the same web server as the ASP.NET application. The specific clients mentioned above would connect to this web service via HTTP, upload the data and the web service would immediately process the data and write them into the database.

At the moment only the last option seems to be the "most natural" (and perhaps even the only possible ?) way to me. Are there any other options and methods for my purpose? And if so, what is the recommended way?

Forms Data Controls :: Database Updates But Gridview Doesn't After Custom Button Click Event?

Feb 8, 2010

So I followed Scot Mitchell's tutorial from asp.net/learn on adding a checkbox column to be able to select multiple entries and delete them with the click of a button. When I make my selection and click the button it works on the database end, as the desired entries are deleted. However, the entries remain on the page after it reloads. if I refresh the page it's updated properly but I'd like it to automatically update after the button is clicked.

Also, I tried his method for adding check/uncheck all buttons to the top of the gridview and they don't seem to be working either.

Here's the code behinf from the gridview page:

Architecture :: Way To Automate An HTTP Post Application?

Jul 20, 2010

I have an aspx page that executes an HTTP posting of XML documents to a customer's server. Currently have a few textboxes and a button on the page and the procedure is executed when the button is clicked.

I need this process to happen automatically when the XML document created but I don't know how to integrate the use of a FileSystemWatcher control in a web page. How do I instantiate the FSW? To run automatically web page should never be opened manually.

I tried setting it up as a web service, but again, couldn't figure out how to instantiate the process. Can this be done with some kind of custom handler?

MSBuild: Automate Collecting Of Db Migration Scripts?

May 20, 2010

Asp.net web application (source stored in svn) sqlserver database. (Database schema (tables/sprocs) stored in svn) db version is synced with web application assembly version. (stored in table 'CurrentVersion')CI hudson server that checks out web app from repo and runs custom msbuild file to publish/package app.

My msbuild script updates the assembly version of the web app (Major.Minor.Revision.Build) on each build. The 'Revision' is set to the currently checked out svn revision and the 'Build' to the hudson build number (incremented on each automated build).

This way i can match the app to a specific trunk revision also get other build stats from the hudson build number.

I'd like to automate the collecting of migration scripts (updated sprocs etc) to add to the zip package. I guess by comparing the svn revision of the db that has yet to be deployed to, to the revision being deployed, i can find what db files have changed in the trunk since the last deployment to that database/environment.

This could easily be achieved by manually calling the svn diff -r REVNO:REVNO command to list changed .sql files. These files could then manually have to be added to the package.
It would be great if this could be automated.

Firstly i'd imagine I'll have to write a custom task to check the version of the db that has yet to be deployed to. After that I'm quite unsure. how this would be achieved through an msbuild task either existing or custom?

Finally I'll have to autogen a script to add to the package that updates the database version table so as to be in sync with the application.

Automate OpenID Login With A Google Apps Domain Using DotNetOpenAuth?

I am trying to implement OpenId for an internal web app. Our college is on Google Apps for Edu, so we have the suite of Google OpenID and OAuth exposed to us.

I would like my login page to have the standard username and password, and additionally a button on the side that will authenticate internal users to our app domain.

I have followed the example here [URL] but it seems that the rules are different for the google apps id than a general google id.

To Find The Correct Formula Of How To Automate The Building Of Each League Games Structure?

Jan 17, 2010

I'm building sport game and i really have hard time to find the correct formula of how to automate the building of each league games structure.leagues can come in various number of teams (eg. 4, 6,8,10...)each season is built from two round and in each round every team playing one match against each other.to make it even harder each team should play every second match in its own Arena...so if league is built from 4 teams it should be something like

Code:
First half of the season:
Round 1
Team A Vs Team B
Team C Vs Team D

Round 2
Team A Vs Team C
Team D Vs Team B

Second Half of the Season

Round 1
Team C Vs Team A
Team B Vs Team D

Round 2
Team D Vs Team C
Team B Vs Team A

Web Updates

Aug 2, 2010

Is it frowned upon to work in visual developer express directly from the published web site? I'm having real problems getting my changes recompiled I think. I've even gone so far as to stop iis and then build the web site, but changes just arent getting
published. New pages I add seem to work fine, but pages that were already there before seem to not want to update. I change variables and its like they are just ignored. When I go to the web root, the changes are reflected in the files, it just appears that the changes arent making it to the running config. Is it recommended to work with a project outside of IIS and then just republish the site over and over again? Or do I have another issue?

ADO.NET :: Use EF For Simple Updates?

Aug 10, 2010

I need to work with some rows of data and then update the database as I do using SQL similar to the following:

[Code]....

My question is: Is there any reason at all why I'd want to use EF for this?

I'm using Entity Frameworks in this project so I'd even be willing to use it to maintain project consistency if all else were equal. But I'm thinking it is just more work in this case. Instead of a simple SQL statement, I must query the data, change it, and then update it, which is not only less work but far less efficient as well.

Perhaps EF has an efficient way of doing stuff like this that I just don't yet know about?
