View 1 RepliesMy requirement is to get the file size in client side. there is no problem in FF but in IE you can't do that unless u r using an activeX object. So we thought of putting it in browser cache and reading the file size from there and when we post it to the server we will be taking it from the cache and send it to the server.
View 4 RepliesWe have a wfc layer that wraps the business classes and database access and use a client that lives on the database layer. Amongst our group we are attempting to form standards. Some want to have the client call the web method and pass the page they are requesting and the page size. Pass that to the database and then page in SQL Server use RowNum.Some want to cache the full list of objects in http cache on the service tier and page in memory. They concern here is memory use on the server.
Which would be best for a medium number of users with potentially large number of records to manage (say 30K) Is it better to cache them all in memory and work from there or page at the database as the application scales?
I need to enable caching in my asp.net application, but I do not want to use the webserver's memory for holding cache objects. If I add the page directive for output caching will the page be stored in the asp.net cache object?
View 2 RepliesI am using TabContainer with some controls on each tab (asp: labels, text boxes). When redirecting to the page that contains the TabContainer, the tabs and their content loads as expected, but when there is a postback, and the page refreshes, the TabContainer UI changes - the font size of the labels gets bigger, the text boxes become bigger and their location changes a bit (not aligned as before), and the tab header is partially hidden. I am using IE7.
I dont know if this is relevant but in some of the text boxes i use edit mask extender as well for date. Also, I have used a table inside the TabContainer for layouting the controls.
Here's the scenario:I have an asp.net webpage which displays dynamic data in a gridview.I'm using a master page to display the header and footer of the page, and this gridview is being displayed inside a div in the contentplaceholder.
The Problem:What I want is that the size of the page that is displayed remains constant for a user and must be equal to the size of their browser's available display area and the content being visible by scrolling the div.Sort of like the header and footer remain at the same position and the content inside it is scrollable.
I have created a customer RSA key container (for encrypting connection string in web.config) using the following command:
aspnet_regiis -pc "TestKeys" -size 2048 -exp
I then exported the key to an xml file and used it to initialise an instance of RSACryptoServiceProvider so that I could check the key size was definitely 2048. However, using the code below, the key size is displayed as 1024.
[Code]....
It seems that aspnet_regiis is ignoring the -size argument. Am I missing something? Also, is there a recommended key size for encrypting .Net config sections using RSA?
where external files / images are being loaded from. By this I mean that I'm aware that external JS files / Images are cached on the first load of a page. What I'd like to have is a tool that confirms to me that on subsequent requests these files are in fact being loaded from the users cache rather than downloading the file again.
View 3 RepliesI want to check the selected file size BEFORE uploading a file with the asp fileupload component.I can not use activex because the solution have to works on each browser (firefox, Chrome, etc..)How can I do that ?
View 3 RepliesWe are writing a portal and like every portal we store html data in Db fro Modules. So I thought that I can cache each module in files. I use OnLoad event to check if there is a cache file for this Module, use that and else create cache file:
if (!IsPostBack)
{
string Path = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + "CacheModules" + ModuleId + ".dat";
if (File.Exists(Path))
{
Controls.Clear();........
Is there any way to check the size of a file that is being uploaded before its uploaded? Below i have code that works, but it doesnt check the file size until its uploaded.

View 1 RepliesIn my application the user uploads three files ( Resume, Cover Letter, Selection Creteria).
I want users not to upload more then 4 MB files, so In my web.confing file I have allowed max of 5 MB. <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="5000"/>. I did this so that I can validate the file and give user a message that they are trying to upload more then 4 MB file.
It all works fine if the user is only uploading resume. But if the user uploads all three files of size 4MB then my validation does not work and it goes to connection time out.
How can i handle the validation to check the file size of all 3 files?
currently we are configured execution Timeout="1200" (The default is 110 seconds) and maxRequestLength="12288" (The default is 4096 KB)but some times users upload files above 12MB so we are getting "Maximum request length exceeded" error.we are checking the file size using client side javascript ActiveXObject object. but ActiveXObject only works in IE not in others like mozilla,crome,..Jacescript Code are

View 3 RepliesI'd like to pass data from one asp.net page to another. I've seen that using System.Web.Caching.Cache is a good way to accomplish this. I'm wondering if it's a good way to do it and also is there any cleanup or other things I need to keep in mind when you the Cache?
I'm not passing very much, at most two integers.
I have a Web Application where I have one and only one master page and with 100's of diffrent content pages
So to speed up my Web app How can i CACHE the mater oage but not the content page??
Master page loads each time whenever content page is requested..
This thing is possible,I have seen it on many diffrent websites where the Website's Master Page Remains Intact and only the content page changes (best example would be Facebook)
How can i have the same effect in my Web Application?
Do you have any idea about the problem causes change the size of my nested aspx pages which are included in master page... When I click on my menu items, it navigates to new aspx pages which is in the content-placeholder .but new pages are getting smaller so my page contents, images, tables, text are moving. And my internet explorer is shutting down.
View 2 RepliesI have a form, with an update panel and the EnablePartialRendering set to true on the page. Here's my problem, the page size with every AsyncPostBack gets larger, even if my code makes no changes to the markup. It also, never stops... it just keeps growing about 3-4K with every AsyncPostBack. If EnablePartialRendering is set to false, full postbacks do not cause the page size to grow like that. It's like it's sending resources and then never getting rid of them out of the page even though they're not being used because an updated copy has come down.
1.) Is it supposed to work like that?
2.) If it's not, what can I do to not have 4K added to the page size everytime an AsyncPostBack occurs (not again, full PostBacks do not have that same behavior).
3.) This behavior happens whether I compress the ViewState or not (I am using ViewState compression). However, the ViewState size is NOT growing... it's the size of the content in the page that is (I'm monitoring the ViewState size/the Page Size closely).
Is it correct to implement my caching object like this in my controller :

And I Use it like this :

What are the "optimal" parameters for creating an AppFabric cache when you will be storing session state in the cache? MSDN Cache-Related Commands
Powershell command line:
New-Cache [-CacheName] <String> [-Eviction <String>] [-Expirable <String>] [-Force [<SwitchParameter>]] [-NotificationsEnabled <String>] [-Secondaries <Int32>] [-TimeToLive <Int64>]
[code]...
Since I don't want my sessions to be removed unless the session has been abandoned either via code or Session Timeout...For eviction, I would think "None" and for expireable, I would think False.I have tested and calling Session.Abandon does remove the object from the cache. I have also tested to see if by extending my session, the session object in cache is also extended. This does seem to work the "correct" way.
