C# - How To Implement And Maintain E-commerce Application When Business Don't Want To Disclose Merchant Details To Developers

Jan 14, 2010

Recently we've developed an E-Commerce web application for a client. We are at the stage before launch and the client is not happy to disclosing live merchant account details to us because they don't want us to potentially being able to see their clients' data.

Since we are going to maintain their website (running off their servers but we will still have access to the site files) I cannot see an easy solution to this other than trust.

How to implement and maintain E-commerce application when business don't want to disclose merchant details to developers?

DataSource Controls :: Access The Point Data For Both The Merchant And Merchant Category

Apr 26, 2010

the best way of achieving the following using SQL Express 2008.I have a table with the following information in:

merchant id (an integer referencing the merchant i.e 1000)

merchant category id (an integer referencing a unique category for the merchant i.e 1015)

points (a long int)

I want to access the point data for both the merchant and merchant category.
?
i.e. merchant 1000 total points 100
merchant category 1015 total points 70
merchant category 1016 total point 30

I created a view with rollup which gives me the 2 levels i need, but i'm unsure as to whether this is the most efficient way of achieving my goal.Ideally I'd like a view to show the following:

merchant category 1015 category points 70 merchant points 30 rather than:
merchant category 1015 merchant 1000 points 70
merchant category 0 merchant 1000 points 100

Convincing Legacy Application VB6 Developers To Make Switch To C#

Oct 20, 2010

I know this question could be similar to others but really I'm looking for reasons why VB6 developers should switch to C#. My company recently approved project to be written in C#, so we have a lot of VB.Net programmers, however, we have some legacy app developers as well that are in VB6. We have a time frame to re-write those apps into .Net web apps. So no matter what they will have to learn new stuff.

One of the developers today specifically asked "why should we switch to C#?" I responded that the community largely has decided that C# is the way to go with about 80% of the examples in C#. I am a VB.Net programmer and I am excited to finally cut my teeth on C#, however, being that I'm so new I'm not sure I can answer the "why?" question. My reasons are more because I want to learn it. So without descending into a VB verses C# I really am curious if there are any resources that I can send to these developers to calm their nerves.

Architecture :: Business Object Design In Master Details?

Aug 19, 2010

I have the following scenario,There is a master business object containing 40 fields2 separate child business objectsIf I update a child record, I have to update master's 'Last modify by' status along with 3 or more fields in masterFor this purpose, I don't want to initialize a separate Master class object (as most of the fields are unused/wasted)The 'last modify by' also gets updated if the records in master get updated themselvesCurrently I have separate business objects for master table, Child 1, Child 2 etc.

How do I control this in my business object design ? Do I break up my master object ? Say I extract last 'modify by ' into a new class, through inheritance or some other way ?Is there a way that whenever child gets updated I use a 'small' class to update Master status only and whenever the master itself gets updated I do the same.Problem is that I am having redundancy in my small class (Master class also contains 'Last Modify By ',

Trying To Implement A Business Delegate Pattern?

Jun 28, 2010

I am using ASP .NET and C#, and using the code-behind-pages concept.I am trying to implement a business delegate pattern in ASP .NET to reduce coupling between the presentation and business tiers.I want to have several ASP pages send information (through asp buttons clicks) to a "business delegate" ASP page, which will in turn send the necessary information to a C# method.The problem is that each button_click event in ASP .NET is directly tied to a C# method. I am having trouble understanding how to separate the presentation and business logic because of that.

Implement Transaction In Business Logic Layer?

Jan 17, 2011

I'am using enterprise library data access block in my asp.net application. I want to implement transaction from the Business logic layer, across multiple stored procs. Entlib opens a new connection for database access. Does using Transaction Scope in the following way lead to distributed transaction?

using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Required))
{
// calling necessary DAL methods
scope.Complete();
}

Is there better methods to implement transaction from BLL?

The Number Of Developers Vs PHP Developers?

Aug 19, 2010

A client has approached me requesting that I quote to build a project in .NET. One of their reasons for this is because it's easier to find a .NET developer than it is a PHP developer.I've tried searching google, but I can't find any stats on this. I suspect that there are more PHP developers, then .NET, I certainly don't know any .NET developers, but know a few PHP developers.Does anyone have a link to any stats which should how many developers their are for each path?

Suitable 'business Rules' Tool / Engine For Web Application?

Mar 15, 2010

I am building a web application that has multiple alternative paths to most of the use cases. These paths I perceive as business rules. I would like to code my application first for main scenarios and then apply alternative scenarios as business rules (rules can be added and removed even when application is in production).I think my application deserves a rule engine. I haven't used any in the past. So I have few queries, but before that here is the profile of my application:

Web based application (data intensive)Somewhat critical (related to health care) - dynamism needs to be accounted for Microsoft .Net platform (ASP.Net, MS SQL Server, WCF)Here are some queries:

How best to externalize rules?

Is it possible to apply rules immediately or batch-wise is the only possibility?

How can Business User be in control of rules?

What best (suitable) rule engine is there? (I prefer to accommodate an open source product)

Web Forms :: Server In Application - Runtime Error - Not Working For Business User

Mar 12, 2010

The user is geeting following error while uploading a file to the asp.net page. But when I try to upload the same file, I don't get this error. Is there a way to troubleshoot this problem? Also is there a way to capture exact error? I tried to have custom error page.

Runtime error

Description
Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --><configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="Off"/> </system.web></configuration>
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File --><configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web></configuration>

Security :: Maintain Session For Multi User Application?

Oct 25, 2010

I am developing a web application. This application is fully customised based on the user settings. Suppose, application hosted on [URL] and user can signup on the website and it will get the domain like [URL] and for user2 will be [URL] so and so forth. so in this case how would I maintain the session for each user? each user will be representing a single website along with public interface and admin pages.

what I am thinking is to store all the setting (for each user) in the database and then when ever server received request then get the user info from the URL (first time only and after get it from the session) and get user details but I am not very much satisfied with this approach.

MVC DDD E-commerce - Admin And Front Separation?

Oct 7, 2010

I'm going to write an ASP.NET MVC 2 application using Domain Driven Design. I'm trying to figure out how to separate the Admin from the store front. I could create 2 MVC projects, but regarding the services for them, should they be in separate projects as well or could I use the CatalogManager, for example, for both, Admin and the store front, and mix up all the services?Currently I have a class library for each part of my domain (services, infrastructure, model, etc.)

CMS/E-commerce .net Project : One Database Or Multiple Databases?

Mar 31, 2010

I'm currently working on an C#/ASP.NET project that will host several differents e-commerce websites, all running in the same application.I use LinqToSql (moving to PLINQO soon) to access my database. The database contains both informations on the website structure (pages, ...) and the products/orders/users data.

My question is, should I use only one database for all the websites, or sould I create a new database (same model) for every new website?I'm now using a single database (with SiteIDs in some tables) but I have a big security concern, I can't just backup/restore the database for ONE website if something goes wrong (e.g. somebody erase all the products on ONE website) and it's an important requirment of the application.

So I was wondering what are the good practices in that case? Is there big cons if splitting dbs?(I would have to make changes to several database instead of one in case of structural changes, but i guess i can make a db version/update system).How the existing CRMs are dealing with that?Is it a performance problem if a database server host a lot of different DataBases? A complex backup/restore tool would be better?

Subquestion:To make a website replication easy, I can also split the pure CMS data (Pages, Texts, ...) in one DB and the e-commerce data (products/categories/orders in another). It can be achieved by some select/insert functions but it would be easier by just copying a database of course.
