I am wondering are there any standard mechanisms available to protect the asp.net asp code in the client browser ? I found some references to windows script encoders. Question is,are these script encoders encodes both aspx and code behind source ? If aspx is encoded with the windows script encoders then how client browsers can decode it? Are they aware of the encoding algorithms ?Or can we control the client browsers ( IE, Firefox, Chrome etc) to disable the view source option in the Tasks Menu when web site a loaded in them?

I spent the better part of today hunting down an elusive error. I was getting a message saying that it couldn't find the Index view for the Home controller, and it gave a list of locations it searched, e.g., ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx. This was really confusing as the file definitely existing and was at ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx, the first place in the list of locations it searched for the view!
What I eventually discovered was that there was a file that did not get published when I used Visual Studio's "Publish" feature (this is on the "Build" menu). That file was Views/Home/Home.master, and (as you can probably guess) is the master file used by Views/Home/Index.aspx. Once I copied that file into place manually, it started working. But I am left wondering--why??? Why does this file not get published? It's a part of my project, I can see it in the solution explorer, and it's obviously a critical file that's necessary for the MVC app to run. It has the same permissions as every other file in my project. So why wouldn't it get copied? And how can I fix it so it does get copied?

I'm having the classic (dare I say typical?) error on the ASP.NET production server, which tells me that I can't view errors. Below the error displayed below, are things I've already tried. In IIS Manager (6.0), the application is located under one of the web sites in "Web Sites". It is indeed a web application, as opposed to a virtual directory (it has that gear icon). When trying to view the error from the localhost (i.e. the server itself), it doesn't find the application on its path, even though the root web site works just fine from localhost. It is clearly not a firewall issue because first of all, the firewall is turned off, and second because the root web site works fine from localhost. Heck, I even tried connecting through telnet and that worked fine and dandy too, so it is most certainly and very clearly not a firewall issue. Basically, I just need to view the error at all. I won't have to fix this problem if I can just see the error and fix it, because obviously there is something wrong in the code itself... I just don't know what, because IIS/.NET won't tell me.
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
So what I've already tried is what the error message itself suggests by setting the customErrors thing to "Off". In fact, it always was on "Off" so I didn't have to change anything. I've made sure that the web.config XML is valid. Another common reason for this error is that the .NET run-time is set to version 1.1, not 2.0. I've also made sure that this is correctly configured to 2.0. I'm running it in an independent application pool, meaning that there are no other applications at all, much less 1.1 applications, on the same application pool. I've made sure that EVERYONE can do ANYTHING to the files and directories in the application itself. I understand the security ramifications here, I'm just trying to get it working at all, and then I'll constrain the access rights afterward, one step at a time. But in any case, everyone can read those files.

A project I own was just moved from an older server to a new one, and in the process of moving the web folder, re-deploying the SSRS reports, restoring the database, configuring IIS, etc... I have lost the ability to view the Microsoft Chart Controls that are embedded in the SSRS reports, that are then displayed by a Microsoft.ReportViewer.
I could view them both locally and remotely (via the internet) on the old server. I can view them if I preview the SSRS report in Visual Studio. The report displays fine, only missing all the embedded charts. I can still view them locally through the web browser, just not from the internet.
I tried giving permissions to the ChartImageHandler temp storage folder, but it didn't work.
I'm getting the Javascript error: Error: ClientReport380ec8ca0c294a809e9986c1bef9db1c is undefined

My ASP.NET MVC 2 application runs under built-in local NETWORK SERVICE account. I want to set up access permissions for the folder which resides in another computer, but in the same domain. I located that folder right-clicked to open its properties form, clicked to Security tab and pressed Add button which displayed Add user form with correct domain name in the location field. I referred to the account with following syntax:
<domain name><server name>$
because I learned that NETWORK SERVICE account uses machine account when connected to other computers in the domain. However, the system couldn't find the account, so refuses to add the account. Without the domain name it adds a user, but that user seems to be local user, not web server's NETWORK SERVICE account. What am I doing wrong?
By the way, the above syntax worked when I created login for the sql server which is different computer from the web server.

I was just trying to install Umraco CMS on my ASP.NET website. I am using the Web Platform installer from Ubraco http://umraco/downloadI pointed the CMS install to the local website folder where it was intended to be installed and specified to use an existing database for the same. It is asking for the some username and password for the Database access. Is there some default value of the these particulars for these because I never configured the username and password for my DB? (It is a MS SQL Database)

if a class has a private constructor then it cant be instantiated. so, if i dont want my class to be instantiated and still use it, then i can make it static. what is the use of a private constructor? Also its used in singleton class, except that, is there any othe use ? (Note : The reason i am excuding the singleton case above is because I dont understand why do we need a singleton at all ? when there is a static class availble.

Can it handle mapping using private members like NHibernate can? The documentation is very slim, but it seems like one of the objects or methods provided with the tool could do something like this.
Mapper
.With<FooDTO>()
.Map(x => x.Value)
.To<Foo>("_value");
// To<T>(string member) or To<T>(Func<T, bool> func)
Mapper.CreateMap<Foo, FooDTO>();
I know my example methods don't exist as-is, but maybe I've overlooked something else already built in.
