C# - Oracle Query And Gridview Question Might Be Simple?
Jun 28, 2010
How can I make this get a specific users data, Example user enters his 3 digit code in the badge text box so that only his information is shown. Can I add a where clause to the select command? or is there a better way to do this? Also is there a good book out there with information about asp.net, c# and oracle.
// string Badge = "100000" + Request.Form["xBadgeTextBox"]; in
default.aspx.cs
//"SELECT * FROM CLOCK_HISTORY WHERE BADGE ='" + Badge + "'"; would
something like this work?
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionStrings %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionStrings.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT "CLOCK_IN_TIME", "CLOCK_OUT_TIME" FROM "CLOCK_HISTORY"">
</asp:SqlDataSource>

My simple database is like this:
articleid articlename
1 Top 5 places to see
2 Favourite locations
Right now, the URL of each article is like this:
website.com/articles/article.aspx?articleid=1
website.com/articles/article.aspx?articleid=2
I want the URLs to be like this:
website.com/articles/top_5_places_to_see.aspx

I have a number of automatically generated data access classes to handle things like inserts & updates. These look like:
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text
cmd.CommandText = "UPDATE myTable set f1 = :f1, f2 = :f2, f3 = :f3 where id = :id"
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":f1", _f1)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":f2", _f2)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":f3", _f3)
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
If I were to re-write the sql to do what I want, it would look something like
cmd.CommandText = "UPDATE myTable set f1 = pkg.getMyValue, f2 = :f2, f3 = :f3 where id = :id"
Is there any way to do this by setting _f1 to a "special" value, without changing the update SQL or the way the parameters are set? Only in certain cases will I need to set the value of f1 - most of the time, it will be null.
Using .net 2.0, and system.data.oracleclient against oracle 11.

I am a .net developer.I am not that strong in SQL.I need a simple query.This is from Northwind Database.
select 'Select All' as CustomerID,'Select All' as City union(select CustomerID, City from Customers
order by City)
i need to get output like 1st row should be Select ALl Select All and next rows should be output of this stat..(select CustomerID, City from Customers order by City)
i am not getting this...i can do by keeping the second query result in temp table and then using union... but i am looking without temp tables or simple query.

I'm new here and really, new to asp.net except the very basic things.
I am trying to create a very simple (I think simple) web form with five textboxes and three dropdown boxes and one submit button. The user enters information in the textbox fields and selects from the dropdown lists (which are populated from the database), hits enter and the database runs the query and returns information on a separate page (or can it return to the same page via panels?) The original page returned to a separate page using server transfer.
I have this page already existing in asp but feel that it would be much better served in asp.net.
Can someone point me to a post where I would guess this has been answered many times?
How do I submit the new data to the database, update the records and return the query?

I have records with and without a email entered in the field called 'email'.
This one works:
Return From p In db.myTable _
Where p.Email.Length > 0 _
Select New With {.p.Name, p.Email}
but this doesn't
Return From p In db.myTable _
Where p.Email.Length = 0 _ ( nor does Where NOT p.Email.Length > 0 )
Select New With {.p.Name, p.Email}
Am I missing something?

We have a site that is runnig II7 64 bit with the oracle .net 64 bit provider, when I try and open this in web developer 2010 express (I'm running windows 7 pro 64bit) it says it can't load the oracle dll as its an incorrect format. I got the impress that web developer 2010 was 64bit capable.
Ofcourse this is extremly annoying as I don't get any syntax formatting for the project or intellisense.

I have an user control placed on a content page. The content correctly receives the session variables. In the user control I have the following
1. The pageload fires and the text box is correctly set.
<script runat="server">
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Session["app_id"] != null)
{
txtAppId.Text = Session["app_id"].ToString();
}
</script>
2. I have datagrid in the usercontrol which has a binding variable tied to a control parameters as follows
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceMain" runat="server"
ConnectionString="Myconnectionstring"
ProviderName="MyProvider" SelectCommand="select
last_name,first_name
from applications
where (id = to_number(:pAppId))">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:controlparameter name="pAppId" controlid="txtAppId" propertyname="Text" />
</SelectParameters>
<SelectParameters>
<asp:controlparameter name="pAppId" controlID="txtAppId" propertyname="Text"
Direction="InputOutput" Type="Int32" ConvertEmptyStringToNull="True" />
I tried the following, same error
</SelectParameters>
<asp:SessionParameter
ConvertEmptyStringToNull="True"
DefaultValue="0"
Direction=" InputOutput "
Name="pAppId"
SessionField="app_id"
Size="integer"
Type="String" />
</asp:SqlDataSource>
For some reason the select parameter pAddId is getting set to null and get the following error when the content page is loaded If I hard code the value it works RA-01036: illegal variable name/number Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. I have a datakey that I'd like to query from my GridView instead of looping through all the rows and comparing the key of each row. So I was wondering if it was possible to just do a linq query on the gridview (not datatable) and filter with the datakey.

I am basically looking to bind a search query to a gridview which is nice, but this must be done by a users input query (sort of like a search function). I can get single values and rows returned, but how would I get it to search all columns in my database for the inputted values and return it?
Void SearchFunction()
{
TiamoDataContext context = new TiamoDataContext();
var search from p in context.UserProfiles
where p.DanceType == UserSearchString

When I populate a gridview with a linq to sql datasource, I get the results I expect, however, when I try to use a linqToSQL query and try to databind that to the gridview, I get no records returns.
My Linq looks fine and I don't recieve any errors, so if someone could take a quick look and point out an obvious flaw.
