I have a third party CMS system that can create forms but can't manage true File upload capabities. I am able to get users brows for thier file and have the value submited to my custom .net code behind page for processing. So I end up with like "C:somefilefoldersomefile.doc".
But on my processing page I want to read this file (like the file uploader) and save it to a location. I tried using the file uploader control (but have it not visible) but realized I can't preset it as I was planning to set it and do the normal processing from there. Is there another way to do this?

When user requests to download a document, I'm writing out a PDF file to HttpResponse using HttpResponse.OutputStream.Write method. It works in every browser except Firefox(3.5.8). In Firefox it sometimes displays the file and sometimes it displays the actual byte stream. When it displays a byte stream, http response is never finished. I see 'transferring data' status and the byte stream ends with EOF. After some time, I get 'connection was reset' window.
Here is response header:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Cache-Control: no-cache
Pragma: no-cache
Content-Length: 103185
Content-Type: application/pdf
Expires: -1
Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0

Content-Description: stuff.pdf
Content-Disposition: inline;filename="stuff.pdf"

I am working on a comparison tool that will take an excel file and a .csv file and find differences. The user is going to be selecting the two files from their local machine via the .NET FileUpload control. The issue I am running into is that I don't want to write the files to the server first so using something like below won't work for me, as "Book1.xls" or even " + FilePath + " in place of it won't work. I need to be able to read the posted files into memory, then create maybe datatables of them, then do my comparison code.

I have some code that reads the PostedFile into a stream but I don't know how I can use that stream with the above code. Then I have some that can read the .csv file, but if it is an excel file, I get a bunch of Excel garbage along with the data...

How can I read into clean data from a FileUpload control of an Excel document?

I have an ASP.NET Web Forms application. I want to have a button to post back to the server that will use my fields on my form (after validation) as parameters to a server process that will generate a document and stream it back to the browser. I want the form to be updated with some status results.
What is the best way to achieve this? Right now, I've got the button click generating the document and streaming it back tot he browser (it's a Word document and the dialog pops up, and the Word document can be opened successfully) but the page doesn't get updated.

I was hoping to open a document in a menu control using a sitemap. I am using the following code in the sitemap but get an error. I would like to be able to click on the menu item, have it open the sample doc in a new window, but not to have the original page navigate to a new place (essentially to do nothing on the main page.)
<siteMapNode url="javascript:window.open('Sample.doc','SampleName'); return false" title="FAQs" description="FAQs" />
Is there some javascript I can use that does not require me to register a function on every page?

I need to be able to click on a button and have it open a word document help file that is stored on the LAN (e.g. \serverfilepath.doc). The word doc can be opened in Word or in the browser, which ever is easier. What's the easiest way to do this?Opening a PDF is even easier, I'm open to that option as well. I'm running Visual Studio 2008 with VB codebehind.

Is anyone aware of a good open source document repository webcontrol for ASP.NET? I'd like to give users the ability to upload files, create folders, etc. in particular paths on the web server. I want a full user interface so just the WebDAV API or a partial solution like Uploadify is not enough.

I wrote an web form application in C# to open Office Word 2007 documents from the application. This worked perfectly testing in my development environment. But after deploying my application to web server, the documents do not open and I get the following error retrieving the com class factory for component with clsid failed due to the following error: 80040154
It looks like it may be because Office Word 2007 is not installed on the web server box. Would installing it on the web server be the solution, or is this a bad idea. If it is not the solution, then would is an alternative way to do this.
