C# - Run Javascript Function After Server Side Validation Is Complete?
Mar 26, 2010
I've got a lightbox with a small form (2 fields) in it, inside an UpdatePanel, and I want to close this lightbox (must be done via javascript) when the 'Save' button is pressed.
However, there is a need to have a server-side CustomValidator on the page, and I only want to close the lightbox if this returns as valid.
Does anyone know a way to trigger javascript (or jQuery) code from a server-side validator?

i have used PageMethods to access the server side functions in javascript , but now my problem is that with pagemethods your controls will not go throught the full page lifecyle and these leads me to have "Object not set for an instance of an object" error. Now can someone come with a differnt approach without using pagemethods. What i want is to call a server side function , i dont want to pass any parameters to it

What I want to do: dispose of a session upon detecting an "OnBeforeUnload" event in the client. I know it doesn't fire 100% of times (90% accuracy works fine for me)
Here I saw how to do it with ajax, this system, however, breaks down with ajax: I can't use it at all.

I am using a dropdown, a devexpress grid view and a button on my page.
My gropdown contains the months in the format MM/YYYY, and on dropdown's selection change the data binds in the grid view.
the functionality of button is to go on previous page as same as back button of browser.
Now, my prob is that if i select any month and then select another month, the data changes.
but now when i click on back button having onclick ="history.go(-1)", changes the data on the grid view but the month in the dropdown remains the same.
For example:
Suppose, first i have month selected as 02/2010. At this time the data in grid view is for exapmle 01234
now when i select month 03/2010 the data in grid changes to 56789
now when i click on back button, then data in grid changes to 01234 but the month in dropdown remains to 03/2010.

I have developed a web application which contains aspdotnet treeview control. In this treeview control has binded with some database value.. that controls has one parent node and more than one child nodes for each parent node.
my problem is here, when the user clicks the parent node, I need to fire a javascript onclick function before the server side event(SelectedNodeChanged) called..
If I provide javascript to the parnet node when it is binding, then I could not fire the server side event(SelectedNodeChanged).
How to provide onclick javascript event for parent node in treeview control even the parent node has SelectedNodeChanged event.

I have a page with a table and two button with the names (Submit and Add Rows) When I click on Add Row a new row will be added to a page(This is achieved using javascript), when I click on submit button I will be doing server side validation. If I found any error the error will be displayed on the page. During this process the controls which were added by me were loosing its state. As a result I need to add the rows once again and need to fill the data and click on submit button. Can any one let me know how to avoid this and see that the controls donot loose their states. So that there is no need for me to create rows once again if any validation fails on the server side.

I'm interested in identifying a means to verify the server-side validation is performing as expected, but need to bypass the client-side validation being done using ASP.NET validation controls. To test this, I've tried using the form Poster add-on to Firefox that allowed me to get/modify the page contents and post it, but the .NET framework interpreted the submission as harmful and threw an application error ("A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client").I've created a WinForm that includes a WebBrowser control and I'm able to manipulate the contents of the web page and invoke the button click, but am interested in seeing how to allow a postback with invalid input values. I don't want to assume the server-side validation works (even though I do check if Page.IsValid on the server on postback).This submits the web form in the WebBrowseer control and the expected client-side validation fires:
extendedWebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById(formButtonName).InvokeMember("click");
This is how I've manipulated some of the page contents (this just prevents submission):
mshtml.IHTMLDocument2 doc = extendedWebBrowser1.Document.DomDocument as mshtml.IHTMLDocument2;
string html = doc.body.innerHTML;
html.Replace("Page_ValidationActive = false", "Page_ValidationActive = true");
doc.body.innerHTML = html.ToString();
extendedWebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById(formButtonName).InvokeMember("click");

I'm using an entity model with metadata annotations. My controller method looks like this...
if (!ModelState.IsValid)
{
return View(model);
}
else
{
UpdateModel(model);
repo.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
If I enable client side validation in the view I'll get the error per the Attributes from the metadata class. If I take clientside validation out, error gets thrown from saving to the DB rather than return the view with an Error Summary.
This is the top portion of my view....
<% using (Html.BeginForm())
{%>
<%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %>
I've tried running without debugging (ctrl + f5) in debug and release mode as well as setting breakpoints and Debugging (f5) but it just seems weird to get Client side validation without server side validation. What am I missing here?

I am using ASP.NET's server-side validation. In the page_load event I'm calling Page.Validate(), and if Page.IsValid is not true I'm then polling the controls to figure out which ones are not valid, and then determining what actions to take.It would be much easier if each control would raise an event as validation fails, allowing me to take action for that particular control. I'm very much a naive programmer when it comes to validation, but is there a way to extend these controls so that a validation error raises an event?
