ADO.NET :: Creating Dynamic Expressions For Lambda IQueryable Expressions?

Sep 30, 2010

I have a ListBox that contains userNames which is inputted by a user during run time. This number of items in the ListBox is dependent on the user's input. These userNames will then be used in a Lambda expression like this:

var vHandleResult = vHandleResult.Where(a => a.UserName.Contains("userName"));

This works fine when there is only 1 user in the ListBox but doesn't produce the correct results when there are multiple items in the listBox. I tried manually creating the expression which should be written as this:

var vHandleResult = vHandleResult.Where(a => a.UserName.Contains("userName1") || a.UserName.Contains("userName2") || a.UserName.Contains("userName3") || a.UserName.Contains("userName4"));

I tried forming the "a.UserName.Contains("userName") expression as a string which is dependent on the number of the items (using foreach) and then just plug in the resulting string in the expression but it seems that it doesnt accept string as an expression.

C# - Visual Studio Immediate Window - Lambda Expressions Aren't Allowed?

Dec 10, 2010

I'm debugging some tricky generic List-based code in VS 2010 - lots of heirarchy-processing etc.. Of course lambda expressions and anonymous methods aren't permitted within the immediates window and I can't be doing with stepping thru the code in the usual way as I'm still trying to get my head around the hierarchies ...Can anyone suggest a workaround or an alternative tool?P.S. An aside - I can't seem to find a visual studio 2010 tag?

How To Update List Using Lambda Expression

Mar 15, 2011

I have two lists. lst contains ViewState Data i.e All the records of the gridview & second lstRank contains the list of integer(i.e ID) for only those records which are marked as checked (i.e Gridview contains a columns for checkbox). Now i want to update the lst bool status depending upon integer ID of lstRank. How it can be achieved by lambda expression

List<Tuple<int, string, bool>> lst = (List<Tuple<int, string,bool>>)ViewState["gvData"];
List<int> lstRank = gvDetails.Rows.OfType<GridViewRow>().Where(s => ((CheckBox)s.FindControl("chkSelect")).Checked)
.Select(s => Convert.ToInt32(((Label)s.FindControl("lblRankCD")).Text)).ToList();

Forms Data Controls :: Binding A Repeater To A List Of Objects That Have Child Objects?

Nov 17, 2010

have some Objects, lets say Employee and Role defined as below and I have defined relationships in my database that gives me a list of objects say employees and thanks to my framework each employee object also has a Role object linked via the RoleIDID, UserName, Password, Email, RoleIDRoleID, RoleNameSo in code I can do something like this

Employee emp = dataService_GetEmployeeByID(1);
string RoleName = emp.Role.RoleName;

Now here is my problemI can bind any object in a repeater and it works fine for the first level in my relationship

For instance <%# Eval("UserName") %>

But I need to be able to show the details for my child objects as well (Role) so something like this (which does not work)

<%# Eval("Role.RoleName") %>

C# - How To Convert Lambda Expression Output To List

Mar 14, 2011

I am selecting the checked rows from Gridview. To achieve this i have written a lambda expression using dynamic keyword.

var dn = gvLoans.Rows.OfType<dynamic>().Where(s => s.FindControl("chkSelect").Checked == true).Select(s => s.FindControl("lblCD")).ToList();

I want the output of this in List. Can it be achieved by extending the query or i have to write foreach statement.

If you still clicked this after seeing the title, you are probably like me and sometimes code just for fun. So, that's the spirit of this; all new approaches that solve this will be marked as answer.I have a template that I can't imagine ever using again, but use 5 times on a page. I wanted to DRY up my page a little:

While doing this, I realized that Lambdas confuse me - I had the feeling there was a much simpler way to code it.

Visual Studio :: Add Values To Standard Expressions List In Regular Expression Editor Dialog

Apr 25, 2010

In the "Regular Expression Editor" dialog in VS 2008 ( or 2005 for this matter ) ,

there is a list of "standard expressions" like :

"French phone number" , "French postal code" etc..

And of course there is an option to select a "Custom" and then enter your own regular expression.

Well.. I want to add a predefined expressions to that list . Like : "Israeli phone number" .

I don't want to enter it every time by selecting a custom value .

I want my developers in the team available items for them to choose.

Anyone knows how to alter that list ?

I've found some question about it on the web - and the answer given is that it's not possible .

How To Expose Custom Object (with Sub Objects) In Web Service

Feb 11, 2010

I'm kinda new to web services and want to make sure I am doing things correctly.

I have a custom object which has sub objects as well. (let's say Company object, sub object is collection of Employee objects)

I want the web service to return a collection of Company objects. Do I make the service return a Dataset and custom generate a dataset with datatables representing the different objects?

What is the best way to do this? I tried to just serialize it, but that doesn't seem to work either.

I tried this dll

[URL]

But the output XML doesn't seem to include the sub object.

Forms Data Controls :: FormView Control Only Renders Server-side Objects?

Mar 25, 2010

I have just run into a situation with a FormView control where any markup that is not given an ID and runat=server attribute is NOT rendered to the browser.

In other words, all of the extranneous markup (h#, fieldsets, legends, divs, labels, etc.) that are in my Edit Template DO NOT render to the browser at run-time. However, if I add an ID to any of those items and add runat="server" then they are rendered.

Has anybody every seen anything like this? Does anybody know what could possibly cause this?

C# - Cached Objects Update Automatically With The Object Updating?

Jul 2, 2010

I found some code on the web and it threw me off. Look at the code below. You will notice only when the Hits == 1, does the cache get added. After that, the cache object isn't updated. It begs the question, does the object when updated, update the cache as well automatically? The answer here would make me remove some code in some of my classes.

public static bool IsValid( ActionTypeEnum actionType )
{
HttpContext context = HttpContext.Current;
if( context.Request.Browser.Crawler ) return false;
string key = actionType.ToString() + context.Request.UserHostAddress;
var hit = (HitInfo)(context.Cache[key] ?? new HitInfo());
if( hit.Hits > (int)actionType ) return false;
else hit.Hits ++;
if( hit.Hits == 1 )
context.Cache.Add(key, hit, null, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(DURATION),
System.Web.Caching.Cache.NoSlidingExpiration,
System.Web.Caching.CacheItemPriority.Normal, null);
return true;
}

I would only guess that I would need to add the lines after the if statement:

if( hit.Hits == 1 )
context.Cache.Add(key, hit, null, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(10),
System.Web.Caching.Cache.NoSlidingExpiration,
System.Web.Caching.CacheItemPriority.Normal, null);
else if (hit.Hits > 1)
{context.Cache.Remove(key);
context.Cache.Add(key, hit, null, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(10),
System.Web.Caching.Cache.NoSlidingExpiration,
System.Web.Caching.CacheItemPriority.Normal, null);
}
Found the code at the bottom of the page here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/10ASPNetPerformance.aspx?msg=2809164
