State Management :: Cant Access Object Property In Class?

Mar 28, 2010

I'm having a problem with a class library I'm building. I have a class called Users and inside this class I have a property called UserInfo that is an object. Both of the classes Users and UserInfo are built using MyGenerations dOOdads. When I create an object instance of the Users class I am able to access the UserInfo property without a problem in my Windows App, however when I using the same library in a website the UserInfo property continues to return a no reference error. Like I said when running it in a WinApp I have no problems at all, I can access the UserInfo property and likewise all of UserInfo's properties. I am also having problems trying to debug the library using the website. And again I have no problems when using the WinApp. The way I've set it up is I have the Class library project open, and then I add the WinApp project and then the website project. When I set the WinApp as the startup project and run it I have no problems, I can set breakpoints and step through the code no problem. But when I set the Website as the startup project and try to debug I get a massage saying the breakpoint won't be hit. I then do what it tells me and right click on the breakpoint and set the location to allow the source to be different. This lets me hit the breakpoint, but every time I hit F10 to step I get "There is no source code available for the current location." For every step I take. This is making it really hard for me to figure out what going on with the code in the website. Sorry for the lengthy explanation. Here's the Users class, again it works great in the WinApp, just not the website.

DataSource Controls :: Is It Possible To Use A Property Of An Object Instance Property For Object Data Source

May 3, 2010

Traditionally with an Object Data Source, the wired up class will have its public properties available for binding (i.e. Gridview columns, etc.) which works well. But what if one of my wired up business objects has a property that is an object itself; can I drill down to a property on that object property and still use it?

So in additiona to the traditional:MyBusniessObject.OrderID...I want to use:MyBusniessObject.Customer.NameID
Your 1st response might be to just wire up the 'Customer' class, but I need properties both on 'MyBusinessObject'and 'Customer'. I do not think this can be done, as the ODS will not display properties on an object instance property. I have tried manually typing in the drilled down value as well, but that wasn't a success either.

Visual Studio :: When Change Any Existing Method Or Property In Business Object Or Data Access?

May 11, 2010

I am working on Vs2005 and asp.net 2.0. I have a solution with 4 projects (business object, components, data access, webclient)When I change any existing method or property in Business object or data access, it is not reflecting in the application. I have deleted the existing references to the project and added them after the new build. I always get errors like "method not found or No overload method "It seems like old verion of dll is still there in the reference.

DataSource Controls :: Access Property Of Object As Session Variable As Declarative Datasource Parameter Value

Oct 27, 2010

I am storing a custom "Organisation" object as a session variable. One of the properties of the Organisation object is "OrganisationID" (integer). I have a DataSource that requires a parameter value to run, and I want to use a SessionParameter to populate this. In a previous version, I stored the OrganisationID directly as a session variable. In that case, I could easily access it like this:

[Code]....

However, how do I now access the OrganisationID property of an "Organisation" type session variable (called "Organisation")? I have tried this, which does not seem to work: <asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="Organisation.OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

Web Forms :: Dropdownlist DataBind Using Strongly Typed Property For DataTextField?

Aug 13, 2010

I would rather not magic string my DataTextField/Values on the dropdownlist after setting up the source as a List collection of objects.

I was thinking I could use the DataSource properties but it doesn't seem to like the couple of ways I tried.

WORKS BUT NOT IDEAL
//set the datasource to the returned List<Cart>
this.cartDdl.DataSource = CartManager.Load(WebProfile.Current.UserName);
//set the DataValueField to the Cart.ID property
this.cartDdl.DataValueField = "ID";//would rather use the obj property Cart.ID
//set the DataTextField to the Cart.Description property
this.cartDdl.DataTextField = "Description";//would rather use the obj property Cart.Description
//Bind the ddl to the datasource
this.cartDdl.DataBind();
HOW I WOULD THINK IT COULD WORK this.cartDdl.DataValueField = ((Cart)this.cartDdl.DataSourceObject).ID; this.cartDdl.DataTextField = ((Cart)this.cartDdl.DataSourceObject).Description;

MVC 2 - Add A Default Property To A Strongly Typed Html.Textbox Helper

Apr 22, 2010

The strongly typed helpers are now written like this -

<%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.State) %>

I need to add a default value to a textbox. In the prior version of Asp.Net MVC it was easy to assign a default value. I thought doing the following would work in MVC 2-

<%= Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.CountyId, new{ value = 840 })%>

This, however, does not work for me in Asp.Net MVC 2. The value is still blank for the textbox. I want to make sure that this isn't some random error that I am having. Has anyone else encountered the same problem? I have searched and searched to find more information on the default property for the html helpers in MVC 2, but I can't find anything. Does anyone out there know how to correctly assign a default value to a textbox in Asp.Net MVC 2?

MVC :: Strongly Typed Views: Only One Object Allowed?

May 11, 2010

Just a quick question really but with the strongly typed views where MVC can autobind form fields to the propertys of an object I define, how does this work when supporting multiple forms on the same view?Is it possible to have two objects with different properties,

Object1 { Name, Age }
Object2 { StartDate, EndDate }

Then on the view have two seperate forms, one for each object and the controller can work out which object it is to post back because of the form which eventually gets posted back?

"Product[0].ProductDescription" to get the product description. Is there a way of returning is straight as an object rather than a dataset?

{"d":{"key1":"value1",2":"value2"}}s there any way of accessing the keys and values (in javascript) in this array without knowing what the keys are?The reason my json is structured like this is that the webmethod that I'm calling via jquery is returning a dictionary. If it's impossible to work with the above, what do I need to change about the way I'm returning the data?

Forms Data Controls :: Binding Formview To Strongly Typed DataTable In Session Object?

Sep 29, 2010

Okay, here's something that I could easily do the hard way and manually wire up each form element and save it to a datatable in memory, but there has to be a more efficient way to do it.

Here's what I have:

1. A strongly typed datatable and tableadapter in a XSD name Orders

2. A formview control which currently is connected to an ODS connected to the Orders tableadapter, this makes it easy to wire up the databindings for each form field in design view

I would like to:

- bind the the formview to an instance of the strongly typed datatable, and then save the dt to a session object without interacting with the actual database

- load forms on subsequent pages from the dt in session

- ultimately save the dt info to an actual database table on the third page

I've read some solutions where a custom class is created, but to me this seems like almost as much work as wiring up the form field to the table columns manually in code.

Error - Property Access Must Assign To The Property Or Use Its Value

Sep 10, 2010

I have a masterpage that contains all the javascript and inside the content control, there is a link that calls a javascript function and I want to pass the id once it's rendered differently by the server.

<a title="Pick Date from Calendar" onclick="calendarPicker('<% txtstart.ClientId %>');" href="javascript:void(0);">

However, I keep getting this error:

Property access must assign to the property or use its value.

How would I be able to accomplish this?

C# - How To Access Attributes Of Properties In The Model From Strongly Typed Custom HtmlHelper

Mar 18, 2011

I have a view that is strongly typed and its model is of type LogOnModel. That LogOnModel has anotated properties like this one:

[Required(ErrorMessage = "Please enter your password")]
[DataType(DataType.Password)]
[Display(Name = "Password", Description = "Your secreet password")]
public string Password { get; set; }

All of them has Display anotation with Display.Descripion property set. I want to create HtmlHelper extension method that will output <span> containg the value of Display.Description property. So for example if I called my extension method DescriptionFor than this code:

<%: Html.DescriptionFor(m => m.Password) %>

should produce following html: <span>Your secreet password</span>

Strongly-typed Or Weakly-typed Binding In Codebehind In Front End?

Feb 23, 2010

So my question is more in relation to what people consider to be the best practice and why:

I've been dropping literals into pages and repeaters and binding them in code behind for a while. Is this considered bad practice?

ie:

ASPX Page:

<asp: Literal id="litTextToInsert" runat="Server" />

Code Behind:

litTextToInsert.Text = objData.MyText;

OR (repeater):

[code]....

I personally dont like doing this as i find it makes it harder for me to know if someone changed the field name, or mis typed it during development - the other way you won't know until the page loads.

With the strongly typed version if something changes in your DAL etc the build will break - letting me know I've messed up.

Why do so many people appear to use weakly typed code in ASP.Net (in examples, MVC, etc)?
Am i missing something?

I've watched the Slideshow videos and created a number of examples that run fine. The code I've attached at the bottom is the smallest one, but instead of hard coding the image locations, I would like to select the slides from either of the following statements, which return the top 5 images selected randomly from our floorplans database.

Access Office Word Object Model Through Asp Results - Error 80070005 - COM Object Not Registered

Aug 13, 2010

I have developed a website that allows users to upload office documents then uses the office object model to convert the document to an HTML file that it then displays in an iFrame. I have, of course, included references to Office.interop.word, and the site works fine on my development machine. When I uploaded it to my production server the site functions fine until I try to upload a document. I initially got a similar error that said "COM object not registered". I realized that Word wasn't installed on my production server. So I installed word and now when the server tries to access the word object model I receive the following error:

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

I searched the registry for the corresponding CLSID and found a corresponding folder. I added full control to the IUSR_ account and due to the persistence of the error I eventually added full control to "everyone" and ensured these permissions inherited down to the rest of the folder. I then added full control to IUSR_ and again eventually added full control to "everyone" to my microsoft office folder. I don't know what other permissions to grant and where in order to make this "Access is denied" error go away. I must be granting them in the wrong place, because as far as I know I can't be any more permissive than "Everyone" "Full Control".
