C# - Add Cache-Control: No-store In Authenticated Pages In DotNetNuke 5.4.4?
Jan 31, 2011
I would like to know what is the best way to include Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store in authenticated pages in DotNetNuke 5.4.4. In fact, I want to prevent caching in IE6/7 and FireFox as well.

How to cache authenticated page?
Stephen Walther suggests not to cache authorize page (http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2008/08/29/asp-net-mvc-tip-40-don-t-cache-pages-that-require-authentication.aspx) , but every page I have need the built-in Authorize() filter for easy integration.
[:(]
I have tested both Authorize() and the CacheFilter in the same controller and indeed I can see the other users role account . How can I have the Authorize() and the Cachefilter in the same controller then?
The Cachefilter can be found here (http://weblogs.asp.net/rashid/archive/2008/03/28/asp-net-mvc-action-filter-caching-and-compression.aspx).

Our web app currently under development has authentication on all the pages.
We can deny a user access to any particular page but have found that if a user had previously opened the page that they can still access the page via the url. [Even if they log out and log in]
Assuming that the page is coming from client cache [Ctrl F5 in IE kicks in the proper authentication behavior or clearing the client cache]
A lot depends on how we have implemented the authentication but a quick fix on our side would be from within the admin section where we deny access to certain pages that we expire client cache for that page.
Is there a way to do this programmatically.
This would mean that client caching would continue to work as normal for all other users that still had access to the page in question.

It should store plain HTML fragments of a page like the standard Output cache in asp.net .The HTML may contain dynamic content from a database.When an object is updated in the database all the cached HTML fragment containing that particular object should be destroyed and re-cached next time it will be requested.
There is a separate admin tool to handle all data in the database so I can easy store the Id's in a cachetable when an object is invalid. I can also make a request to a page that destroy all cached HTML fragment for that object.
But when I write the markup, how could I do to store and retrieve a particular segment from the cache? Of cause I could do this in code behind and have the markup in a string but I don't want that. I want to have the markup as intact as possible.

I've seen numerous examples of people storing DataTables into the Cache, but I am just wondering, do the same rules apply to the Cache that apply to the Session? The one rule I am most concerned with is:Do not store unserializable objects into the Session. Just because you can doesn't mean it is guaranteed to work So ultimately my question is:Can you store unserializable objects into the Cache?I reasearched this for a while, reading numerous posts and even reading the chapter about Cache in my ASP.NET 3.5 book and I cannot find it anywhere.I am going to put my DataTable into a DataSet then into the Cache,but is this necessary?

I've a default.aspx page in my application's root folder. I added a a page in the root of inetpub that redirects requests to the default page. The idea is that the user need only enter the server name to get to the default page. How can I set things up so that all users have access to the default.aspx and that they only have access to the other pages once they've been authenticated?
I am using Windows Integrated Security and the users are being challenged and authenticated properly. I want them to be able to access Default.aspx without any challenges.
(On a side note which may answer this question, when using WIS does the user *allows* have to be challenged? Isn't it possible to pass through their Windows User and ID without the prompt?)

I have a DataTable with about 10,000 rows in it.
I would like to store this data once for aspx page. When the user selects different options in the page, data is further selected from the already stored DataTable.
I tried using the ViewState, but as soon as the data grows beyond 100 rows, performance degrades.

i'm developing a "small" warehouse-management WebApplication for few users(5-10 parralel) but with a complex authorization system(checking if pages,menus,TabPanels, UserControls and even single controls are visible or enabled) and permanent and frequent access. Because i've only limited experiences with the ASP.Net MembershipProvider, i'm unsure what's the best approach for following goal:
I want to hold all users, roles and frequently used masterdata in the Cache(in a Dataset). Hence every readonly access should be faster and causes less traffic than always using the database. On updates,deletes and inserts i would update the cached dataset and also the database.Can i use or extend the SqlMembershipProvider to achieve this goal and if possible how?Should i use the stored-procedures from asp.net or simply use the standard CreateUser, GetUser, DeleteUser-functionality? Does this approach makes sense at all?

EDIT: Purpose of this Website: Its called Utopiapimp.com. It is a third party utility for a game called utopia-game.com. The site currently has over 12k users to it an I run the site. The game is fully text based and will always remain that. Users copy and paste full pages of text from the game and paste the copied information into my site. I run a series of regular expressions against the pasted data and break it down. I then insert anywhere from 5 values to over 30 values into the DB based on that one paste. I then take those values and run queries against them to display the information back in a VERY simple and easy to understand way. The game is team based and each team has 25 users to it. So each team is a group and each row is ONE users information. The users can update all 25 rows or just one row at a time. I require storing things into cache because the site is very slow doing over 1,000 queries almost every minute.
So here is the deal. Imagine I have an excel EDIT(Excel is just an example of how to imagine it, I don't actually use excel) spreadsheet with 100 columns and 5000 rows. Each row has two unique identifiers. One for the row it self and one to group together 25 rows a piece. There are about 10 columns in the row that will almost never change and the other 90 columns will always be changing. We can say some will even change in a matter of seconds depending on how fast the row is updated. Rows can also be added and deleted from the group, but not from the database. The rows are taken from about 4 queries from the database to show the most recent and updated data from the database. So every time something in the database is updated, I would also like the row to be updated. If a row or a group has not been updated in 12 or so hours, it will be taken out of Cache. Once the user calls the group again via the DB queries. They will be placed into Cache.
The above is what I would like. That is the wish.In Reality, I still have all the rows, but the way I store them in Cache is currently broken. I store each row in a class and the class is stored in the Server Cache via a HUGE list. When I go to update/Delete/Insert items in the list or rows, most the time it works, but sometimes it throws errors because the cache has changed. I want to be able to lock down the cache like the database throws a lock on a row more or less. I have DateTime stamps to remove things after 12 hours, but this almost always breaks because other users are updating the same 25 rows in the group or just the cache has changed.This is an example of how I add items to Cache, this one shows I only pull the 10 or so columns that very rarely change. This example all removes rows not updated after 12 hours:
DateTime dt = DateTime.UtcNow;
if (HttpContext.Current.Cache["GetRows"] != null)
{
[code]...

I use shared hosting. I have set my page to be cached indefinitely. The page gets cached after the first request. However on the next day when I visit my site it is no longer in the cache and has to be regenerated.
What is happening? Is the hosting removing my pages from the cache? Or something else?

I'm using the HTMLEditor as per the Ajax Control Toolkit but it can take upto 4 seconds to load. Obviously once loaded, I'm guessing its somehow cached or stored in viewstate as next time round (as long as its a postback) it appears much quicker.
My question is when a postback did not occur, rather a visit to a different page in the site obviously causes the HTMLEditor to fully reload again, after a while these 4 seconds add up, and I'm worried the effect on user experience.
Is there a way I can [force] the browser to cache the control between pages, so that the user only see it load once (first time).

I create a menu control in a user contol, named as RightUserrControl.ascx.
and i kept this RightUserrControl.ascx in nearly in 200 pages.
every thing is working fine , but when ever i am going to any page the page loading is very slow, nearly each page is taking 1 minute to load.
set caching for the user control, if this is the case , do i need to declare output cache in all 200 pages or is there any alternative way to resolve this issue.

Has anyone been able to cache .aspx pages using the HTML cache manifest? I am porting an html application over to asp.net (and mvc2) and I get a 404 error when trying to cache any *.aspx page. Other files still cache normally (.js, .css, etc). I have changed permissions, handlers, and file names and still no luck. Below is the actual manifest:

I have a server control that I developed which generates navigation based on a third party CMS API. Currently I am caching this control using the PartialCaching attribute. The CMS uses cache key dependencies to invalidate the cache when a user makes an edit, however in the case of my server control it does not get invalidated and the updated navigation will not show up until the cache expiration set by the PartialCaching attribute.Here is my two part question:
What is the proper way to programmatically cache a server control, without using the PartialCaching attribute, and adding a cache key dependency?
Is it possible to continue to use the PartialCaching attribute and add a cache key dependency?

I got only one ideas to control with the session. When user log into the master page, I insert the current login user and session ID and active status to the SQL table. if user logout manually or close the browser or session expired, I want to change the inactive status. So I can check how many active user are there and the system can prompt the required info to the user. But now, I can't find the soultion to change the inactive
status in above condition.
That doesn't seem right to me. I m sure I 'm making incorrect assumption about this matter.

I've a requirement where i need to pass some objects across the pages. So i created a custom class with all the properties required and created a instance of it and assigned all the properties appropriately. I then put that object in the session and took it the other page. The problem is that even when i set the properties values to the class it is coming as null. I set a breakpoint in the getter-setter and saw that the value itself is coming as null.
public class GetDataSetForReports
{
private Table m_aspTable;
private int m_reportID;
private string m_accountKey;
private string m_siteKey;
private string m_imUserName;
/// <summary>
/// Asp Table containing the filters
/// </summary>
public Table aspTable
{
get
{
return m_aspTable;
}
set
{
m_aspTable = aspTable;
}
}
/// <summary>
/// Report ID
/// </summary>
public int reportID
{
get
{
return m_reportID;
}
set
{
m_reportID = reportID;
}
}
/// <summary>
/// All the accounts selected
/// </summary>
public string accountKey
{
get
{
return m_accountKey;
}
set
{
m_accountKey = accountKey;
}
}
/// <summary>
/// All the sites selected
/// </summary>
public string siteKey
{
get
{
return m_siteKey;
}
set
{
m_siteKey = siteKey;
}
}
/// <summary>
/// Current User Name
/// </summary>
public string imUserName
{
get
{
return m_imUserName;
}
set
{
m_imUserName = imUserName;
}
}
}
This is how i'm creating an instance in the page1 and trying to get it in the page2. Page1 Code
//Add the objects to the GetDataSetForReports Class
GetDataSetForReports oGetDSForReports = new GetDataSetForReports();
oGetDSForReports.aspTable = aspTable;
oGetDSForReports.reportID = iReportID;
oGetDSForReports.accountKey = AccountKey;
oGetDSForReports.siteKey = Sitekey;
oGetDSForReports.imUserName = this.imUserName.ToString();
But the values are not getting set at all. The values are not passing to the class (to the setter) at all. Am i making any OOP blunder?

I have a class instance which is created by using Activator.CreateInstance() method. That class instance contains helper methods which are frequently used throughout the application. In order to avoid creating the instance multiple times, I'm just thinking about implementing an appropriate caching mechanism. The following consideration should be taken into account:
1) I can't use static class and methods.
2) There are around 6 instances (1 instance per class) per App Domain.
