View 3 RepliesI am searching for a solution to pass a large dataset from visual foxpro(vfp) to a .net web service. The data is personal information such as names, address, phone numbers, etc. with 7 more columns containing id's and other parameters.
We tried cursor to xml dataset but the file size is very large. So my idea is to pass json formatted string. We need to accommodate up to 1 million rows of data
I found this solution on the web for json webservice. [URL] Can this work for such large datasets? Is there anything better suited for my situation
I found this class for VFP [URL] which promises to do what is needed as far as converting to json format. Should this work? Is there anything else I am missing here?
I would like to pass xml document to a method in WCF service by client that server will get xmldocument,parse it and send back the xml response.What are best practice for thi?The xml document is conform to XSD so i would like to create managed type that represent the schema and then expose thatIf anybody has done it before or know any example please point it out so i can see it.

View 2 RepliesI have an ObjectDataSource that I want to perform updates using a business entity i.e. Type="Object"). Since the values for the entity are within a user control, I have stored a reference to the control in Session and in the updating event, set the new instance to the value of the entity from the user contol property (which also pulls values from the form viaother properties of the control):
Protected Sub MasterDataSource_Updating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ObjectDataSourceMethodEventArgs) Handles MasterDataSource.Updating
Dim entity As New Login()
Dim accountControl As AccountInfo = TryCast(Session("AccountCtrl"), AccountInfo)
entity = accountControl.Entity
e.InputParameters.Add("entity", entity)
End Sub
And here's the markup for the datasource:
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="MasterDataSource" runat="server" EnableCaching="true" CacheDuration="10"
SelectMethod="SelectAll" UpdateMethod="Update" TypeName="Data.DAL.LoginDAL">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
My question is, how can I get the update method to pass this entity to the update method in my BLL class? It seems the Update method requires an ID or reference to the original object to use in determining whether any changes have taken place, but I don't really want to do this. In other words, I just want to use the Update event on my ObjectDataSource to pass my entity to the method ("Update") I set as a property and then let this business method handle the update of the data. Shown below, is the BLL update method I want to call:
Public Overloads Function Update(ByVal entity As Login)
If entity Is Nothing Then
Throw New ArgumentNullException("entity")
End If
MyBase.Update("UpdateLogin", entity.Username, entity.Password, entity.FirstName, entity.LastName, entity.Role, entity.Region, _
entity.Email, entity.Title, entity.TierID, entity.Street, entity.City, entity.State, entity.Zip, entity.Mobile, entity.Phone, entity.Fax)
End Function
When I try to call this as it stands now, I get an error: ObjectDataSource 'MasterDataSource' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: ID, entity. Previously, I'd set up a long list of parameters of basic data types (string, int, boolean), but this is rather cumbersome and I was hoping to use an entity for this (FYI, I also got the same type of error when I tried this approach, but with the ID as the
last parameter in the list). Perhaps what I'm doing here is atypical to how the ODS is normally used?? Has anyone done something like this successfully?
I want to create a web method that accepts a List of custom objects (passed in via jQuery/JSON). When I run the website locally everything seems to work. jQuery and ASP.NET and everyone is happy. But when I put it on one of our servers it blows up. jQuery gets a 500 error after the ajax request with the response being:
System.InvalidOperationException: EditCustomObjects Web Service method name is not valid.
[WebMethod]
public void EditCustomObjects(int ID, List<CustomObject> CustomObjectList)

My WCF Client calls my WCF Service which then calls ASMX Web Service. The problem is i have configured my wcf client and wcf service to windows credentials type but when wcf service calls asmx service the user credentials (default windowsidentity) is not passed to asmx service.
In WCF Service i am able to get user identity by using : Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name;
WCF Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. ASMX Web Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication.

I have built a WCF Service that is being consumed by a Silverlight app. At first I created one method that was very simple:
public String SfTest()
{
return "SF Test";
}
No poblem. My silverlight app references my service and displays "SF Test" in a textbox. Now I add a method to my wcf service like this:
public List<String> GetTest()
{
List<String> list = new List<string>();
String a = "a";
list.Add(a);
String b = "b";
list.Add(b);
return list;
}
I update the reference to the service in my Silverlight app and the using statement in my xaml cs page throws an error like the service doesn't even exist although it is there. I am assuming the problem has to do with datatypes or serialization or something like that but it is driving me up the wall. Why can't I consume a simple generic list in my Silverlight app through the WCF service.
is there anyway to pass in a Table Name to a DataSet?
I'm executing a stored procedure that is returning several recordsets. I have no problems w/ changing the DataTable's name from my Code Behind, but I was wondering if there was anyway the stored procedure could actually pass back the name of each recordset/datatable?
I'm trying to test the RejectChanges method of the DataSet object. I have the following:
[Code]....
When I look at the Table in the DataSet on the .HasChanges() method, I see the change. But then when I look at it after the RejectChanges() method is hit I still see the change. Is there something I'm not doing correctly?
I have run into the issue on DataSet.WriteXml method. Apparently, if any row in a column in the DataSet has a null value, the entire column/rows will not write out in the xml file using the method DataSet.WriteXml. So, as terrible as that bug is, I need to send the data another way. Does anyone have any thoughts?
I have a dataset where I would like to upper all string fileds and when done check each field for a value. The other way i thought to do it is to do an upper of each string when I do the conditional check. I would like to know what is quicker upper of the values in the dataset or upper in the conditional statement? Knowing the dataset will contain a max of 10.000 rows and there are multiple conditional statements in the complete process.
View 4 Repliescan datatable pass to web service as input parameter? i have a scenario to pass values as datatable to web service. eg as follows

View 6 RepliesIs there any method by which we can retrieve random data from a dataset or rather directly from a table.
For example, I have around 30 questions in my table, I just wanted to display 20 among them and that too in a random order without the same item repeating. Can we achieve this using SP or through some Dataset manipulation?

like above link i want to bind

View 1 Repliesit is apparent that "string builder" is better for building large string compared to sMyString = sMyString + "something";

i have 2 dropdown list and i need to create a Generic method so that I an reuse it...
View 1 RepliesI've just noticed I'm repeating a lot of C# code in my ASP.NET application so want to create a generic method. I have a series of private methods like this:
[Code]....
So, I want to replace DB.MyRepeatedCall, chtMyRepeatedChart and pass them in as parameters to a generic function. Is that possible? I have many charts on my form that take the same number of parameters.
UPDATE
Following Frederik's solution I have done this:
[Code]....
I am calling the function with this command:
PopulateControl (chtEquityCurve, DB.GetAccountBalances());
I get this error in the intellisense:
No overload for method 'GetAccountBalances' takes 0 arguments.
I have recently converted all my applications to framework 4.0 and am very happy as a whole.
I have, however, run into a bit of a bind: i have exposed quite a few web services that have methods returning datasets.
Clients immediately started complaining that the order of the tables within the returned datasets were different. I investigated and can confirm that the webmethods are indeed shuffling the tables within the datasets. The order of tables in the method result are markedly different from the table order in the code before being returned.
My question is: is it possible to hard code the order of tables within the dataset being returned by a webmethod? I know that clients should, ideally, be referencing the tables via the table names, but that is - unfortunately - not the case in the really real world.
I'm currently using VS 2008 and I am trying to make my web application to print only 1 specific data set from my SQL database.
For example, i got 3 rows of data sets, how can I choose only 1 data set to be printed?
string reportPath = Server.MapPath("CrystalReport2.rpt");
I added a new table to my type dataset. When the code tries to execute the new row on that table I get the error message.
(if you can't see the error. "MissingMethodException was caught" "Method not found: 'MyTableDataTable MyNamespace.get_SSCase().")
I've tried the wizard and also click and drag the table from solution explorer to the xsd file. The other tables work, just this one table won't work. What should I check?
I am learning Asp.net web application. I have one doubt.
Is it possible to pass the DataTable from one Method to another in the same class?
