View 1 RepliesI've a default.aspx page in my application's root folder. I added a a page in the root of inetpub that redirects requests to the default page. The idea is that the user need only enter the server name to get to the default page. How can I set things up so that all users have access to the default.aspx and that they only have access to the other pages once they've been authenticated?
I am using Windows Integrated Security and the users are being challenged and authenticated properly. I want them to be able to access Default.aspx without any challenges.
(On a side note which may answer this question, when using WIS does the user *allows* have to be challenged? Isn't it possible to pass through their Windows User and ID without the prompt?)

I have a really weird problem that I've been investigating for at least one week now. I deliver a website hosting both ASP classic and .NET 3.5 content in IIS6 on a Windows 2003 server environment with MySQL db backend. The solution has been installed on several servers (some hosted in WMWare) with no problems. On one specific server, also hosted in WMWare, the user experience great performance issues on the website. The problems are most seen when using database resources and is not limited to either .net or asp classic, but I am still not sure that the problem is only related to database calls.
Following components are involved:
IIS6 .NET FW 3.5 MyODBC 3.51 / 5.1 MySQL 4.x
Code executed on the server using all resources above runs smoothly when the IIS is not involved. The website shows times up to 2 minutes to execute code that takes 2 seconds outside the IIS. The exact same code is executed. Using profiling tools, I've seen that the great loss comes within calls to unmanaged code, for example when System.Data.ODBC namespace to calls into myodbc.dll.
The tricky part is: If at least one console user is logged in to the server, the performace problems are not seen anymore. When the user logs out, the problem appears again.I have tried to reinstall all components above, tried different versions of MyODBC, tried different website authentication methods, tried to run website under administrator privilegies, installed various MS KB's with no success.
I'm setting up a new web forms app and want to use ASP.NET membership. All my users must be authenticated. What is the best way to implement this?I'd love to deny all unauthenticated users in the root folder of the app by setting this in web.config but then where would I put the login folder? I'd like the login folder to be a subfolder of my root folder so that the URL can be www.myapp.com/login/Another idea is not to put the restriction in the web.config but put the logic in Session_Start in global.asax but I really like the idea of controlling who can see what using web.config files.
View 3 Replieswe want to have a fronend to a custom databasince, since I do have experiance with HTML/CSS and have used VB.NET before, I'm the one that gets to make it.
problem is, the one thing I have not used before is the autentication system in ASP.NET, I want to use single-signon for the system.
and I do have this right now, the only problem I have is how do I check if a user is logged in, and change the page content for autenticated users.
the template does have this:
[Code]....
which does indeed change the login view, problem is, how do I change this to change the pages and menu.this:
[Code]....
has to be a longer menu that also gives options to insert data into the database and/or remove/update the data.
I have a simple user-registration website where I keep records of registered users. I also have an admin page to upload videos, however videos are uploaded to a different server.
I'm using the <video> tag to show the video:
<video width="560" height="340" controls>
<source src="path/to/myvideo.mp4" type="video/mp4";>
</video>`
I want to show this video only to my registered users on my website, since the video is on second server, how can I protect it?
I thought I could build an application and install it on second server, this app will watch whether the requested url is for videos, if so then it'll redirect the user to my login page and here he'll be authenticated and again redirected to the same video url.
In my ASP.NET MVC project i have following tag in in web.config file
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" timeout="2880"/>
</authentication>
This causes even the authenticated users but unauthorized resource requested users to redirect to logon page. but i need only to redirect this page if user try to access unauthorized page and not already authenticated(logged on) and redirect to custom page.
Is there easy way to do this without writing custom action filter?
We have a series of Silverlight apps that use WCF services via SOAP for just about everything. As we migrate to AJAX we've been hoping to expose the same services via JSONP with little more than config changes on the server.Although the message "Cross domain javascript callback is not supported in authenticated services" seems pretty explicit, I'm hoping there might be a way to allow it. We have a need to expose user-centric data across domains, but we'll need to roll our own JSONP to make it happen if this is a hard "unsupported". It would be even better if there was a way for the server to validate the referrer against the client access policy we provide for Silverlight clients, but for now we just need the general requests to not fail if the user happens to have an auth cookie for our domain from a previous visit.f there's no way to allow this to just work, we're also considering the option of channeling the requests through an IFRAME, but we're definitely open to other recommendations.
View 2 RepliesI have an MVC 3 application which uses asp.net authentication. I have just created a custom errors controller and a couple of views for unknown errors and 404's. This works fine when I am logged into the application but if an internal server error happens during logon I would like to display the error/unknown view. However I just keep getting redirected back to the login as I am not authenticated.
I have added a location path for 'Views/Error' to my Web.config to allow access to all users but I am guessing it's the controller access that is causing the redirection.
Is there any way you can allow this in MVC or do I need to think of another solution? Just did not want to add a generic message to the login page as that's what my unknown error view is for.
I am using the membership provider and am reasonably comfortable that all of my web pages are safe.Some of the pages contain hyperlinks to documents (pdf, xls, etc.) stored in a folder under the root of the web site. I have disabled the ability of users to anonymously list folder contents, but I don't see a way to keep anonymous users from accessing the documents if they know the specific URL for that document. Example; if the document contains a spreadsheet of current sales, I don't want an ex-employee (who captured the URL while working here) to be able to bring up the current document.asswording the documents isn't a good choice because there are hundreds and we'd like to avoid changing them all every time someone leaves, or weekly, or whenever...Is there a way to restrict access to all contents of a web folder to people who have been authenticated?
View 4 RepliesI am not able to allow/deny users based on roles in the web.config (using <location path>). The following does not work even if the user is in the 'Admin' role:[Code]....
I am able successfully execute IsUserInRole() and GetRolesForUser() in the codebehind and get expected results. The same applies to the web.sitemap, adding roles in there do not seem to apply to the user even if he is a member of the role.
Here is my web.config (trimmed some sections out so it's not too long):[Code]....
And web.sitemap:

I have a Asp Mvc 2 site using forms authentication. When I run it locally I can log in and stay logged in indefinitely.
However when I put it on the server I seem to only stay logged in for a few minutes and then seems to be logged out. I have looked at the cookies and there are 2 which seem relevant:
.ASPXAUTH which is a session cookie .ASPXANONYMOUS which expires in 3 months.
When I refresh the page the cookies stay the same until I get logged out, when I seem to get a new .ASPXANONYMOUS cookie, but the .ASPXAUTH seems to be the same. It seems that I might be able to stay logged in until I do something after a certain amount of time. If I submit a form as soon as I am logged in then it works ok, but if I keep submitting data again and again then after a minute or so, one of the submits will happen as a logged out user and not as the user who was logged in, which all the other submits worked as. What might cause this behaviour and how can I track down what is different & change it so that I can stay logged in indefinitely?
its a single server, but after some more investigation and searching the likely candidate seems to be that I am using more than 100mb on the server and the application pool is getting recycled. I suppose now i need to know How can I check how much memory I'm using. What advice there is to reduce that.
When a user logs in, they are redireced to files within members folder. When a user happens to log in and gets redireced, there is the chance they will retype the default page address and go to the homepage, which is accessable to everyone. The issue is, the log in status control shows "Logout". how do I check if a user accesses the homepage, if they are logged in and if they are send them elsewhere. I've tried different codes, but not getting the result. Here is one code I tried...
[Code]....
I can get the logged in username from membership system:
// Get user details
var user = Membership.GetUser();
IsLoggedIn = (user != null);
But how do I get things like their avatar, user ID and the rest?
I know how to identify the current user during a specific browsing session and can thus control the data, etc, made visible to that individual user. I also know how to find out how many users logged in within the recent past, using:
Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline()
.... which I believe calculates the number of users who have logged in within the past 15 minutes. However, I would like to know if there is any way to identify all the users who are logged in at a point in time. Is this possible?
I am using ASP.Net Forms based security with the login control. On my site a user will make a number of selections that will be written to a database. Is their a unique user id that I can get from the AspNetSqlProvider that I can use to id users in my database? When a user logs back in after being away I want to be able to retireve the users information using this id.
View 7 RepliesI'm creating a ASP MVC application. And because of the complex authorization i'm trying to build my own login system. (So i'm not using asp membership providers, and related classes).Now i'm able to create new accounts in the database with hashed passwords.But how do i keep track that a user is logged in.Is generating a long random number and putting this with the userID in the database and cookie enough?
View 1 RepliesI need something to secure my PDF files link ...
i have a page like http......../folder/userName.pdf
i need to to encrypt the file name ( i put it "login userName" ) ...
how do i let logged in users download their pdf files without knowing the URL above , for security reasons only ...
I used [URL] as a guide and have something configured to show me the users which are logged into the system. This uses the aspnet_Users.LastActivityDate column to see when someone last did something on the system. It also uses the userIsOnlineTimeWindow within the web.config to determine whether a user is online or not.
But because of this userIsOnlineTimeWindow limitation of .NET, even when someone logs out of the system or closes their browser window, the system still sees them as being online. Also, if they are on a page and don't do anything for 10 minutes, the system will show them offline until they refresh their page or go to another page. know of a better, more real-time way to tracking users which are logged in, logged out, etc?
I don't want to wait 10 minutes for the system to show that a user is offline and also if there's 10 minutes of inactivity, it shows them being offline.
I have created a simple ASP.Net page to create self printable tickets so non-technical people can change the text and layout of a ticket. Obviously the user has to be logged in to be able to print their tickets.
When providing the URL for wkhtmltopdf to convert, the tickets are not created because wkhtmltopdf does not have a session to prove the user is logged in.
Is it possible to pass the session to wkhtmltopdf in the URL, or is their a better solution?
I have a web application using Forms authentication provided by AD. I would like to know if it's possible to use EWS to send mail as the currently logged in user without having to supply credentials, or; would I be required to set up an account with impersonating access which will send mail on behalf of the currently logged in user?
View 1 RepliesI developed a website in asp.net,c# and SQL server2000. In each and every page I want to show the logged in users name with green color text.
I used Forms authentication.
I have basic login functionality implemented using SQL Server and the LoginView, LoginStatus, and LoginName controls.I have two roles defined: one for Administrators and one for Users.I have two users defined, one for each role. I would like to redirect those authenticated as users to one page and those authenticated as administrators to another. Do I need to define RoleGroups to do this? Is there a good, basic way to accomplish this? I'm not sure what to do next.
View 3 RepliesI have created a simple website in asp.net using forms authendications but when I publish my website in IIS 6 on a Windows Server 2003 machine it keeps the users logged in for ever even though I have set the web.config to expire after 30 min. My website has 2 pages a login.aspx and a home.html. When I run the website in my development machine using the ASP.NET Development Server I have no problem the website works as expected meaning the users can not access the home.html unless the have been authendicated by the login.aspx page.
Also once loged in, after clearing the browser cookies the web site asks for login again which is again the behavior that I am trying to accomplish. However once the website is on IIS does not take in account the authendication that I have set up on my web.config. What is overriding my web.config? Do I need to make some changes to the global configuration of IIS?
I have a site where the admin can log in to make changes to his content, but while making changes (using a specific asp.net control) with no page loads or callbacks while editing, the user is sometimes being logged out.
I want to increase the time it takes for the system to wait before logging-out inactive users.
I'm using the standard membership provider.
