Web Forms :: Re: Master Pages And XMLDataSource Caching ?

Mar 31, 2010

I have a master page that hosts a user control to load my menus from the database depending on the user logged in.So when ever a user logs in, the menu list corresponding to him is loaded into the XMLDatasource that is the Data source for the menus.Following is the code:

[Code]....

The problem is if I log out as one user and Login as another, the XML Data source is not invalidating the cache... and is loading the same values again ..Further I even noticed that the program flow control is not transfered to the LoadMenus.ascx control at times and the page is loaded with out having to go through the control flow of all the controls on the master page. i am not sure how to force the control to pass through a single control.I have set the EnableCaching to false on the xml data source.

State Management :: Master Page's Treeview Selected Node / Setting The Properties In Master Page?

Aug 2, 2010

I have a master page containing a tree and 3 dropdown lists. I am populating a context menu on right click of each node, and when clicked on any item of the context menu, it navigates to required pages.

My problem is after navigating to the required page, the selected values from the drop down lists and the selected node from the tree are getting cleared.

I can set the selected values for the dropdown lists by making some properties in master page.
But how do i maintain the selected node?

In my content page, i have got the valuepath of the right clicked node.

Or is there any other way than setting the properties in master page?

Web Forms :: Define Reusable Master Page Type To Reuse Parts Of The Master Page?

Jan 5, 2011

My Project is a normal web site, not a Web Project, and I am using VS 2005.

I am trying to define common Master Page Type in app_code which has an area to display error messages and the like. Very simple.

I added the following in app_code:

[Code]....

Also, I added the following in Master Page Source Declaration:

[Code]....

Also, I added the controls tblrowErrMsg and lblErrMsg as server controls to the Master Page.

Why I am doing this ?

This will allow me to display error messages from nearly any where inside the code in code-behined, app_code, and other core Class Projects (DLL).

Web Forms :: Master Pages - How To Access Content Page From Master Page

Sep 5, 2010

I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

Best Way To Initiate The Page Caching On The Server Side And Serve The Cached Page Upon?

Apr 19, 2010

I'm implementing Outputcache in my application and it works fine, but the first time always take a lot to load and the next following request will be faster...

I would like to know if there is a way to initiate the page caching on the server side and serve the cached page upon the very first request, rather than have it triggered by the user one first time.

Passing Data From Page To Page Using System.Web.Caching.Cache?

Apr 23, 2010

I'd like to pass data from one asp.net page to another. I've seen that using System.Web.Caching.Cache is a good way to accomplish this. I'm wondering if it's a good way to do it and also is there any cleanup or other things I need to keep in mind when you the Cache?

I'm not passing very much, at most two integers.

Caching - Call A Page (ashx Handler) From A Different Page?

Jul 12, 2010

I have a admin page in asp.net that adds data to a database. This database is available as a JSON string to external websites, however, since it's a lot of data, the external websites cache this data locally.I want to be able to ping the external websites to let them know the data has changed so they can referesh their cache. I figure I can setup an ASHX handler that receives a parameter telling them what data has changed, so they can both delete that data and refresh it.The only part I'm not sure about is the best way to call this external page from my admin page. Do I just do a regular WebRequest and discard the result? or is there a simpler way to call a page from code when you don't need the response?

Web Forms :: Get Nested Master Page From Main Master Page

May 30, 2010

I'm trying to dynamically change the look of my main master page depending on what nested master page that the current content page is using .

So for example.

Main master page = main.master
My nested page = nested.master (uses main.master)
content page = content.aspx (uses nested.master)

So in the Page_Load event of main.master I want to add a switch statement that will check to see what nested master page is currently being used by content.aspx, or whatever content page is loaded.

So far I have got

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string nMaster = //This is the line of code that I am looking for.
switch(master)
{
case "nested.master":
//all my logic here.
break;
}
}

Can content pages only use their direct parent ContentPlaceHolders or can they also use any of the higher master pages?

MVC :: Is The Page Caching?

Aug 20, 2010

I am just trying to understand the basics flow to the MVC framework by putting in some breakpoints in the beginning of the actions of a couple of controllers.

One break point is at the HomeController/Index action where it just returns View() of the "Welcome to MVC". The Second break point is at a SecondController/Index action where it uses the Entity Framework and returns a View() of a list from the db.

When I run this in debug, it breaks at the points I expected when I go from Home page to the Second page controller and back to Home. However, when I go to the Second page again, it doesn't break at all? Is the results of the Second page being cached and how and where? How do you trigger for it to get check if data is old?

I check to see if the persistence is done on the db, by changing the value of a field on the db side and it still did not cause it to break on that action and displays old information in the view. I am concerned because it is displaying incorrect values on the UI. I do not have the OutputCache attribute above this action or specified any cache on my web.config.

.NET Page Caching In A Web Farm

Mar 11, 2010

We have a small web farm(2 servers) balanced by the built in network load balancer in Windows 2003. We have a few pages that use page caching. My question is: Is it possible that that a given user could cause a page to be cached and another user see that content? Here is the page directive for the page in question:

<%@ OutputCache Duration="1" NoStore="true" VaryByParam="none" %>

The reason the duration is set to "1" is to ensure that the page isn't cached any longer than 1 second because of transactions that actions on the page can trigger.

This code cache whole page.But, my site has user infomation on top like this ASP.net. The user info "Signed as userid | Edit Profile | ..." section should be changed when user sign in/out. But rest of the page is always same and it's good to Cache.
