Web Forms :: Validate A Specific ValidationGroup Client-side Using JavaScript

Feb 14, 2006

On my page I have some text boxes for name entry: First name, Middle Initial, Last Name, and Employee ID. When the user clicks a button, I want to validate that the First Name, Last Name, and Employee ID were supplied. If they were supplied, I will add the new record to my Infragistics' UltraWebGrid, and then I will clear the fields for the next possible entry. This functionality needs to all be done without a postback. I have validation controls for these fields, and they are in their own ValidationGroup. Also on the page are other input controls in another ValidationGroup.

I have the code working to update the UltraWebGrid with the new records, however I cannot seem to get the validation working for the name entry. I don't think the server button can be used with its ValidationGroup property because I need to know if the group is valid on the client click method which occurs before the validation takes place.

Validate Basic Credit Card Info On The Client Side Via JavaScript?

Sep 19, 2005

With ASP.NET, is it better to validate basic credit card info on the client side via JavaScript the old fashioned way and save a trip to the server or to do it via built-in validation controls and/or adding a new class to handle it?

Javascript - User Control With Client + Server Side CustomValidation; Wrong Client Side Validator Is Picked

Nov 23, 2010

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)

<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />

There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

<script type="text/javascript">
function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...

There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

<script type="text/javascript">
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");

Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

C# - Using Xval To Client Side Validate Forms?

Apr 23, 2010

I am using ASP.NET MVC2 and to validate the forms i use xVal. It seems like the server side validation works fine, but the client side validation doesnt work or atleast doesn't show up.

The code i use looks like this:

<% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%>
div class="label"><label for="EmailAddress">Email Address</label></div>
<div class="field">
<%= Html.TextBox(Prefix + ".EmailAddress")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage(Prefix + ".EmailAddress")%>
<%= Html.ClientSideValidation<Customer>(Prefix)%>

When i remove the prefix it works fine. But when i remove it only the server side validation works.

Searching on xVal on this side i found this post that looks a bit like the same problem: [URL]

JavaScript - Exposing Server-side State Through Client-side Controls

Feb 11, 2011

I have a list of items on an page. That list is selectable in that whenever the user clicks on one, the page does a postback and the server code stores the index or some unique identifier of the picture in a ViewState property indicating that it is currently selected.

I would like to minimize the load on the server and therefore I would like to store the index or unique identifier representing the image in some way on the client side. The best way I can think to do this is to store said information in a hidden field ), however I had two questions about this before I go crazy:

Is this a security risk in any way, shape or form (i.e., exposing implementation details of the page)?
Is there a better/best way to do this that is more industry-standard? Does provide a framework to do this that is cleaner than my idea? Seems like this would be a fairly common requirement to me...

Web Forms :: Client Side Javascript And Server Side Codes

Aug 24, 2009

I modifed an existing page to handle existing radio buttons onclick event (were not there before) as the result of newly added database table. When the user click on one of those radio buttons, i process the onclick event using the combination of javascript function and ajaxpro to query the infomation from the newly added table. In order to display the result from the query i added a panel to the main form and formated it into a html fragment and display it inside the panle using document.GetElementByID("panelID").innerhtml. The panel displayed the information correctly, which consider of a line of text (label control) and the number of checkboxes (the number of checkboxes varied depend on the number rows returned). At this point the user can make changes to the selection as desired. I would like to save the text of those selected checkboxes when the user click on the Save button of the main form. The problem is when i view the source code under internet explorer the only reference i got is the newly added panel. There were no mentinoned of those checkboxes and the lable eventhough they are displayed. Using server side codes inside the code behind page, the panel has no child controls. I guest the only way to acces them is using client side javascript codes. Right now the implementation for the save button is done using server side codes (c#).

Can i inject a block of javascript code inside my code behind file when process the panel like below:
private void ProcessPanel()
// passing the id of the panel to the javascript block below
<script type='text/javascript'>
// i want to be able to read the checkboxes

If not, what other options do i have to be able to read those checkboxes?

JavaScript - Detecting Client-side DOM Changes Server-side - Is It Possible

Mar 7, 2010

I'm working on developing a custom control to select items from a predefined list. This is accomplished via 2 ASP.NET ListBox controls, with a few buttons to trigger the movement of ListItems from one ListBox to the other (lets call these ListBoxes lstSelected and lstDeselected).

This is easy enough to do in ASP.NET or JavaScript independently: I have both working. However, if modifications are made via JavaScript, ASP.NET retains no knowledge of this. Is there any way to register the creation of of options in a select tag without AJAX?

Jquery - Options For Page With Matching Client-side And Server-side Markup?

Oct 17, 2010

Suppose I'm building a StackOverflow clone using webforms ASP.NET and jQuery. The Question page has a question, several answers, and comments under each. Requirements:Users can post new answers and comments, and edit existing ones, without postbacks. No UpdatePanels; the AJAX calls retrieve just the JSON they need, not HTML fragments. The page loads with all existing answers and comments in place (no javascript needs to run to read the page).

What I'm trying to figure out is how to do this without having to maintain two sets of markup (one that's bound on the client using some form of jQuery templating, and one that's bound on the server using traditional WebForms).

I am working on ASP.NET3.5 platform. I have used a file upload control and a asp button to upload a file. Whenever i try to upload a file which contain special characterlike (file#&%.txt) it show crash and give the messeage "Server Error in 'myapplication' Application." A potentially dangerous Request.Files value was detected from the client (filename="...New Text &#.txt"). Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. You can disable request validation by setting validateRequest=false in the Page directive or in the configuration section. However, it is strongly recommended that your application explicitly check all inputs in this case.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpRequestValidationException: A potentially dangerous Request.Files value was detected from the client (filename="...New Text &#.txt"). Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below. how can i prevent this crash using javascript at client side?

Javascript - How Much Client-side Programming Is Needed When Doing Server-side Programming

Mar 16, 2011

but I am rather confused about what to invest in. I heard that server-side code translates into client-side code. So, if you have an .aspx file, it will be converted to HTML/CSS/JavaScript. I have experience with the latter three technologies put into a rather dull text file and rendered by a web browser. My question is how much HTML/CSS/Javascript coding would I have to do when server-side programming? In other words, can someone using ASP.NET program purely on the server side and not bother to write for the client side? Of course, I don't care about server-side being translated into client-side, but I am wondering if client-side programming needs to be done explicitly and to what degree.
