Datarow Field Property To Access Column Value?

Dec 20, 2008 04:34 PM

I have a datarow and I want to access the values of each column by its name

I THOUGHT I could simply access the value via the Field property

dim dr as datarow
dim columnvalue as string = dr.field("columname")

but apparently that is not possible...how can I access the column value?

SQL Reporting :: How To Refer To A Field In A Property Expression

On a report I want a textbox's background colour to change depending on whether the person is male or female. I put an expression into the textbox's BackgroundColor property: -

but when I previewed the report an error was produced: -

"The BackgroundColor expression for the textbox 'textbox6' refers to the field 'indisex'. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current data set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope."

Yet the textbox's value property is set to fields!indisex.value, and prints correctly when the BackgroundColor expression is removed. So how can it be out of scope in the BackgroundColor? What do I have to do to use the value in the BackgroundColor property?

MVC :: NullReferenceException When Field In Error Is Not A Property Of Model

Nov 15, 2009 04:41 AM

I have an MVC application that is validating data and add errors to ModelState if it fails. I have a bunch of checkbox/drop-down pairs on a view where the checkbox indicates whether an item will be displayed on a public web site and, if that's unchecked, the drop-down indicates the reason it won't be displayed. I'm validating like this:

[Code]....

I'm then trying to display that error like so:

[Code]....

Now, if I don't add the error to ModelState all is well. If I add the error to ModelState with a different name all is well. Using the code above though, a NullReferenceException is thrown when Html.DropDown is called, seemingly when it's trying to determine whether to use a style that indicates an error. Here's the call stack:

[Code]....

I've got Framework debugging on and I've traced execution as far as the GetModelStateValue method but I can't really see what's happening in there because it says that nothing can be evaluated because the code is optimised.............

How To Make NHibernate Serialize A Given Property To A Binary Field

Sep 14 10 at 12:00

I have a simple ASP.NET MVC web application that uses NHibernate with FluentNHibernate's auto mapping feature for its data access. I have encountered a scenario in which I would like NHibernate to persist some classes as binary data.

public class User
{
// This field will be persisted
public virtual byte[] PortraitData { get; set; }
// This method will get me what I'm actually interested in
public virtual Image GetPortrait()
{
return SerializationHelper.Deserialize<Image>(PortraitData);
}
}

(I leave the implementation of the SerializationHelper class to the reader's imagination. It doesn't do anything complicated, just serializes and deserializes data into byte arrays and back.)

MVC :: Computed Column Vs Field In Partial Class?

Jun 28, 2010 10:00 PM

I have a table of people with columns holding bits of info about them. I also need a variety of computed columns such as FileAs (lastname + ", " + firstname) and CityStateZip (you get the idea). I am wondering where best to put these definitions. It's worthwhile to note that the user will want to search for things as seen on the page, not the little atoms in the table. For example, searching on ", e" finds everyone whose first name begins with E. Typing ", az" to get everyone who lives in Arizona.

I noticed that linq-to-sql queries only recognize the fields in the table definitions, not any that are added in the partial class associated with the dbml. Linq-to-sql does work against computed columns in the database; however, the column definitions--especially for international address formats--will become very complex and much better handled in code.
