Get The Property Value Of A Runtime Object?

Jan 11, 2010

I have a scenario where and array consists of values of different types.

During runtime I need to cast the current index to its type to get its property value

for eg: I have an array events[100];

the current index events[i] could be of any type say TYPE1.The TYPE1 could have multiple properties.During runtime, while iterating, I need to get all the properties and values of TYPE1 by casting the events[i] to the specific type, which I form as xml string and pass to DB.I'm at loss what way of reflection would achieve this.

P.S: I dont know the property of current index at runtime, which is why I'm collecting all the properties and dumping in DB.

DataSource Controls :: Is It Possible To Use A Property Of An Object Instance Property For Object Data Source

May 3, 2010

Traditionally with an Object Data Source, the wired up class will have its public properties available for binding (i.e. Gridview columns, etc.) which works well. But what if one of my wired up business objects has a property that is an object itself; can I drill down to a property on that object property and still use it?

So in additiona to the traditional:MyBusniessObject.OrderID...I want to use:MyBusniessObject.Customer.NameID
Your 1st response might be to just wire up the 'Customer' class, but I need properties both on 'MyBusinessObject'and 'Customer'. I do not think this can be done, as the ODS will not display properties on an object instance property. I have tried manually typing in the drilled down value as well, but that wasn't a success either.

C# - DesignOnly Attribute Does Not Hide A Property In Runtime?

Jan 17, 2010

I'm building a custom web control with a public property which I only want to be available in design time (i.e. make it unavailable in code behind). The DesignOnly attribute promises to do just that, but when I set [DesignOnly(true)] it has no noticeable effect whatsoever:

[Bindable(true)]
[Category("Appearance")]
[DefaultValue(null)]
[Localizable(false)]
[DesignOnly(true)]
public string MyProp
{
get
{
return ViewState["MyProp"] as string;
}
set
{
ViewState["MyProp"] = value;
}
}

The property still appears in code behind IntelliSense. Setting a value to it in code behind works. In these respects, the behavior is just as if the attribute had never been set. And I've cleaned and rebuilt the complete solution. Twice.

Change An Asp Datapager's Pager.PagedControlID Property At Runtime?

Sep 20, 2010

This property was originally set in the aspx file, however I want to change it to select programatically on page load. I set the Pager.PagedControlID property, but I receive the following error message on this line:

Pager.PageSize = Convert.ToInt32(ListLength);

Page properties cannot be set because no IPageableItemContainer has been found. The ID I am using I copied and pasted out of the inline aspx and I checked it is correct.

Forms Data Controls :: Cannot Assign Values To Checked Property Of Checkbox At Runtime

Apr 22, 2010

I have a ASP.Net page that has a gridview control. This gridView control has a checkbox controls. I would like to assign a boolean value from a database field to the Checked property- Checked='<%# Bind("RESULTS") %>'.

When page loads,I get error - Specified cast is invalid!

The code is as follows...

<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="dsResults"
BackColor="White" BorderColor="#CCCCCC" BorderStyle="None" BorderWidth="1px"
CellPadding="3" OnRowUpdated="GridView1_RowUpdated">
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="COMPLIANT" SortExpression="RESULTS">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="CheckBox2" runat="server" Checked='<%# Bind("RESULTS") %>' />
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox ID="CheckBox1" runat="server" Checked='<%# Bind("RESULTS") %>'
Enabled="False" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>

Note: If a constant value is passed at design time it works fine. But i want to assign the value at runtime using Bind.

Environment details: VS 2008, ASP.NET 2.0 and .Net Framework 3.0 & C# language.

I tried returning values like 0s and 1s, Ys and Ns and True and False from a database field. But i still get the above mentioned error.

I tried retreving the value in OnRowDataBound event using Eval, since Bind is not available in code behind. But it would make the field readonly and i cannot edit and update the Results field.

Even though there is a value returned by the query why does the Checkbox does not assign the value using <%# Bind("Results") %> to Checked property instead throws error - Specified cast is invalid.

how i can edit and update Checkbox.

where did the Bind method of ASP.Net 1.x is moved? How can i use Bind in code behind of ASP.Net 2.0?When i type DataBinder the intellisense shows Eval and other stuff but i don't see Bind that would solve the problem of two- way binding.

AJAX :: Microsoft JScript Runtime Error: 'Sys.Extended.UI' Is Null Or Not An Object

Mar 20, 2010

This is the following structure of my solution explorer.

base directory -> i have a login.aspx and a reference directory which refers to ajax toolkit. The ajax toolkit works fine here.

private directory -> i have my homepage but the ajax toolkit doesn't work here. the above error is shown at this location :-

(function() {var fn = function() {$get('ToolkitScriptManager1_HiddenField').value = '';Sys.Application.remove_init(fn);};Sys.Application.add_init(fn);})();Sys.Application.initialize();
Sys.Application.add_init(function() {
$create(Sys.Extended.UI.TabPanel, {"headerTab":$get("__tab_TabContainer1_TabPanel1"),"ownerID":"TabContainer1"}, null, {"owner":"TabContainer1"}, $get("TabContainer1_TabPanel1"));
});

I have one web.config in the private folder . This is the structure :-

<configuration>
<appSettings/>
<connectionStrings/>
<system.web>
<authorization>
<deny users="?" />
<allow users="*" />
</authorization>
</system.web>
</configuration>

If i allow all users to access this folder or remove this web.config file, then the ajax toolkit works. I need to protect this folder and i am using form authentication. Could someone point me where i went wrong. Kindly keep in mind that i am new to asp.net.

ADO.NET :: Overriding A EF Object Property Set?

Dec 7, 2010

I've generated an entity framework class to handle my users from a custom db table. Now I'd like to override the password property of the EF object to Encrypt the value when it is set. From what i understand of MVC this should be done in the model where the EF object lives. I am able to do this easily in the controller but that doesn't seem like the most appropriate place as it will lead to duplicate code anywhere that needs to edit this user class. Is extending the partial class generated from EF possible for generated DB column properties?

What is the value of SomeId after I create an instance of my object? I was testing it with SomeId == 0 but it wasn't working. Then I tried null which gives me an error.

What is the right way to handle this? Am I to assign an initial value to my objects' properties in the object? If not, how do check if my object has any values assigned to its properties -- in particular, int values?
