Mar 1, 2010In our database we have an SQL server account that has the correct roles to access some of the databases.All of our PC and Servers are in domain using Windows Account. Now there is ASP.NET web application, we want the users in the domain to browser some data in the sql server. But we do not want to grant direct permission to every person, so is it possible to connect to sql server and run some T-SQL without granting permission to users using one specify account?

May 11, 2010I was just wondering what the best approach would be for uploading/downloading files. My users want to have the ability to upload and download emails to various Orders but i'm not sure of a few things.
Would I need a new table and reference it to my Orders table? Or would I need to create a new table and add columns such as file location, and upload the files to a particular server? Also since I am working on a Windows machine, i'm not really sure how to connect to my server to allow me to upload/download files (not sure if that makes sense).

Nov 27, 2010I am having some major headaches trying to get a Web Dev 2010 and SQL Server Express 2008 R2 to work together. At one point I hade Web Dev Express 2008 and SQL Express 2008 working together just fine, then I upgraded to 2008 Express R2 and have never been able to recover.
I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall several times, browsed the forums, watched videos, and while I have picked up a few things, I am still far from being able to get these two apps to work together for basic user authentication.
Here is where I am at. Web Dev Express 2010, .Net 4.0, and SQL Server Express 2008R2 installed. I have ran the .v4 aspnet_regsql.exe app against SQLEXPRESS, but when I bring up the Web Site Admin Tool, it cannot connect.

Thinking that I may have some uninstalled connection info causing problems, I reviewed several of the security videos on this site, and decided to attempt to use my own database install rather then the default ASPNETDB.
So I now have 2 Database Engines (SQLEXPRESS and LOC). I created a new databases on LOC, named LOC and AspNetServicesDB. I then created users named LOCADMIN and AspNetServicesUser, made then the owners, and set the default database for eacg.Next I ran aspnet_regsql.exe from the v4.0.30319 folder, connected successfully, and installed the tables under AspNetServicesDB. The new tables (roles, membership, profiles) were installed. I then proceeded to copy the above machine.config connection info to the web.config file, and modified it as Joe Stagner did in this video. My edited web.config info:

Yet when I bring up the Web Site Administration Tool test the single provider, I get this error:

In order to deploy the database to my hosting space I need to create a .BAK file from my new database. I think I can do this from with the Management Studio, but can't figure out how to get it to connect to the database. I have used Management Studio before to retore another SQL database and the only connection I see when I open the Management Studio is the old connection to the old database. Nov 7, 2010I am developing and app to find automatically characters stats with the 2nd edition dnd rules to be easy for my party to create characters when we play.
I am using Visual studio 2010 c sharp express and Sql 2008 express R2.I have added a database in the project to have all the data needed. When I use the release folder or the debug folder on other pcs the app doesn't run. Wherever I install SQL server (database and management) things are fine. I googled but I am not sure what to look exactly for and made a brief search here but with no results. I am trying to make sth that has almost no dependencies but well I can't avoid installing .net framework 4 everywhere...
Is there anyway to make database work without installing SQL? Is there any workaround like a dll or sth?
