Web Forms :: Can A Login Control Event Be Used To Prevent User From Logging In Twice
I am using asp.net membership and the login control. I would like to prevent a user from logging in with the same use rname if they are already logged in. I would like to place code in the LoggingIn or Authenticate event of the login control to check whether the user is login and prevent them from logging in again. Any ideas on the best way to do this?

Prevent Multiple Logons For A Single User?
I am looking at how best to prevent a single user account logging on multiple times in a webforms application. I know that MembershipUser.IsOnline exists, but I've read a few forum and blog entries suggesting that this can be unreliable, particularly in scenarios where a user closes a browser (without logging out) and attempts to logon with a different machine or browser.

I looked at implementing a last past the post type system; when a user logs on older users are simply kicked off. It seems that FormsAuthentication.Signout() only works for the current user.

Am I missing a trick, is there a better way to prevent the same username logging on from multiple different locations?

Prevent Multiple User Logging Into The Same Domain Using The Same Browser?
So its a ASP.NET problem where two users using the same machine, same browser:

User 1 logs in the domain.
User 1 changes some data without saving it.
User 2 logs in the domain in a separate tab.
User 1 switches back to his tab and saves the data.
User 1 actually saved the data into User 2!!

This is caused by the following mechanism:

Different tabs in the same browser seems to share the same session id.

We are storing user auth in cookie and the cookie is shared between tabs (same domain)

Therefore, when User 1 request to save, it is recognized as User 2 since the cookie has been updated to User 2.

So I'm wondering if there's any other methods to prevent this from happening, other than:

1. Use cookieless session so the session is embedded in uri.
2. Always include a hidden field in page to indicate which user owns the page.

Security :: Prevent Multiple Concurrent User Logins For The Same UserName
My application is windows authenticated. The application pulls JUST the userName from the current windows account. Then I provide site access to this user depending on his account privileges. If his userName belongs to the admins list he is directed to admin screens. If his username belongs to users list he is directed to users screens. I handle this security in C# and some SQL tables(No membership provider and no Active directory security in the app).

I need to be able to prevent multiple concurrent logins for the same userName.

I wanted to stop multiple login of the same user. So, I created a table which keeps track of users who have logged in. When they log in, the data will be entered in the table. When they click on logout, data and session will be removed. The problem is, when they close the browser window without logging out, they won't be able to login ever again.

C# Multiple Login Pages Based On Which Folder User Attempts To Access?
I have developed an application in ASP.NET 3.5 which utilizes the Membership and Roles Providers and Forms Authentication to manage user access and profiles.

There are various area's of this application that are only to be used by an admin users whom login using their email and password and the rest of the users log in using their telephone number and password via their iPhone.

For simplicities sake, I would like to have two different login pages, one that is formatted for the iPhone and performs the correct validation for users adding a telephone number and the other for the application administrators.

I want to redirect the user to their respective login page based on which folder they are attempting to access. For example say I have an application structure like this

/Admin
/Couriers
/Customers
/Whatever
Default.aspx
iPhoneLogin.aspx
adminLogin.aspx
Web.config

I want to be able to redirect users who go to [URL]/Whatever to iPhoneLogin.aspx and users to go to [URL]/Admin to adminLogin.aspx

Prevent Multiple Logins In One PC?
I'm developing an intranet site. Everything is fine until my boss gave me another problem, which is quite easy i think but not really easy for novices like me.

the new requirement for the site is that it should not allow multiple logins in one pc even if the crededentials being used are different. (two different users logging-in in two launched browsers in one pc)

i actually have an idea on how to do it if the same login credential is being used, but i have no idea if its already two or more different credentials.

Security :: Using ASP Tools For Login And Create User / Login Tool Is Going To Get Userid And Password Info?
I've created a page to add users, using the CreateUserWizard, I use the Login Control to login.

I have setup the config file to use my SQL server, not express

<remove name="LocalSqlServer"/>
<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx;Initial Catalog=aspnetdb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxxx;Password=xxxxxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I go to the create user page, add a user.

I can SEE the user on the database using Server Management Studio...

I go to signon and get "Your login attempt was not successful. Please try again."

I have not customized the login control in any way. (OR the createuserwizard)

HOW can I tell where the Login tool is going to get userid and password info?

How can I tell if it is not finding the user or the password does not match?

Installation :: Trying To Run Login Using The Aspnetdb,to Get Error / Login Failed For User
I have a local IIS (WinXP) and a remote SQL Server 2005 DB. When I try to run login using the aspnetdb, I get the following error:

Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

When I run the form in debug mode from Visual Web Developer 2005 Express it works fine. In other words when the VWD launches the web page as http://localhost:1234 it works, but when I run the same page from http://localhost I get the error.I know this is permission issues. I did a search and found info to add the ASPNET user to the DB, but the only user the DB can add it the ASPNET from that server not the computer running IIS.

So I'd like to log the error only once, when it first occurs and then throw it up the exception stack until it gets to the top level where the exception or some more user-friendly error is displayed to the user. But how do I log it only once? How do I know it hasn't been logged before?

VS 2005 Login Page Doesn't Login The User
i am using the following code to time out all sessions after 5 minutes, and go to the login page, if no work (i mean, if some body is not writing something on web page for 5 minutes) The problem is that when i debug this web site, it works properly and if i deploy it on webserver, the login page can't login the user, even it do't show the error messages that i set if a user gives invalid username and password.

{
Response.AppendHeader("Refresh", ((Session.Timeout * 60) + 5).ToString() + "; Url=login.aspx");
