Mar 3, 2010I have a control on a page. In the control's pre-render event I'm executing some code that's taking about a minute to execute. This means the whole page is unresponsive until the control's pre-render event is finished executing.I tried putting the control inside an update panel, but it doesn't matter the rest of the page still won't render until the pre-render event of the control is finished executing. I've attached a very simple example of my code (The event that's slowing up the control's pre-render event is not Thread.Sleep(1000):

Oct 1, 2010I have many controls like dropdown, radiobuttonlist, etc on my page and I put all these controls inside the update panel so that the page doesn't look to be posting back when something is selected. Now the working on the page is very smooth. But the session object isn't getting refreshed even if I postback to the server and as a result even if the users are working on the page they are being sent to the login screen after 20 mins.
Is there anyway where I could put all the controls in update panel and still refresh the session after any postback(dropdown selection)

Oct 20, 2010I was working on this last week and took a break from it to 'regroup' and start over. Here is what I'm trying to accomplish.
1. have a web form with dropdowns to allow the user to select font sizes, colors, background image, etc.
2. I want to the form to be updated with the new styles in an update panel.
3. Once the user clicks the apply button, I want the updatepanel to refresh with the new styles.
I tried this by creating an css on the fly, but the updatepanel wasn't picking up the new css without doing a full page refresh, (which we don't want to do). I only want the updatepanel refresh and either use inline styles, a <style> on the web form etc,

This is updatepanel code. as shown in the code, i am referring to ddlClass in triggers which already calls a javascript function loadAllDefaults();
The problem is, since ddlClass is calling javascript function 'onchange' property, i cannot call any other function of backend code and I want to refresh the updatepanel on the basis of selected value of dropdownlist.
How can i do this? I have created a function in c# code in backend but I am not able to call both functions together!

Sep 30, 2010I have found an odd bug in my application. I have a dropdown status which is bound to my gridview. On selecting a status from the dropdown the selectedindex then fires and binds the results to the gridview.Now the strange behaviour in firefox and not IE:If I have a dropdown open and an ajax update fires on my gridview the option is selected from the dropdown (just by hovering my mouse over it rather than selecting it) and the results bound to the gridview. This does not happen in ie as you should have to physically select an item from the dropdown rather than firefox selecting it for you because you happened to hover over an option when the update event fires.

Feb 18, 2010I have a couple of user controls in an Ajax enabled page. Both controls are within TabPanels.
I'd like to be able to refresh certain items within userControl1, from userControl2.
I've added a public sub within userControl1 named "doRefresh" (that does what I need) but I can't work out how to reference it from userControl2.
Can anyone perhaps point me in the right direction with this?

Jan 6, 2010I have an AJAX tab container with 2 panels within aspx page. Each panel hosts an ascx control. Each control contains GridView and FormView that are databound - 1st control to the parent table and 2nd - to the child. The 2nd control/tab contains standard DropDownList that is bound to the parent values so the user can select a parent to create "child" for. everything works fine except when the parent (on the 1st tab control) is created/updates the ObjectDataSource on the 2nd tab does not getting refreshed. Only after refreshing the hole page I can see the new "parent" value in the ddl on "child" page. I use strongly typed dataset. How I can programmatically refresh the DataSource? Simple rebinding didn't make a dent. Do I need to refresh page, the tab container, tab panel?

AJAX :: Timer Control Forces All UpdatePanels On The Page To Refresh?
Jun 21, 2010I am using a timer control on one of my updatepanels in the asp.net website.
my problem is that behind the scenes the postback is a full postback, therefore any content that is placed under any other UpdatePanel is refreshed, as well.
How can i specify the timer functionality ONLY to the specific update panel, leaving other update panels, which do not contain a timer, unrefreshed.
