Httphandler - Use Server Control Code Generation From .ashx?
Apr 28, 2010
I'm trying to take an existing bunch of code that was previously on a full .aspx page, and do the same stuff in a .ashx handler.
The code created an HtmlTable object, added rows and cells to those rows, then added that html table the .aspx's controls collection, then added it to a div that was already on the page.
I am trying to keep the code in tact but instead of putting the control into a div, actually generate the html and I'll return that in a big chunk of text that can be called via AJAX client-side.
HtmlTable errors out when I try to use the InnerHtml property (says it isn't supported), and when I try RenderControl, after making first a TextWriter and next an HtmlTextWriter object, I get the error that Page cannot be null.
Is there a way to force the MVC automatically generated code to follow the conventions you have set in your preferences? For example, I keep all curly braces on the same lines as their declaring class, method, etc, but when generating a controller, it completely disregards my settings. Is there a setting someplace to force the same code generation as other parts of project?
I am new to the code generation tools and I would like to know how does a tool like LLBGen Pro compares with the Entity Framework? On top of that my boos is really looking into a tool called CodeOnTime http://codeontime.com/default.aspx because he likes their good UI support.I am asking here because I really want an unbiased opinion.I am not sure if LLBGen can also generate the UI. So far all the development in the house we do it the classic way coding each layer manually. However we are in need of a fast prototyping tool.
For configuring my ASP.Net Application I'm using Custom Configuration Sections in my web.config. But I would like to get IntelliSense support for my own-build configuration sections. I figured that it is possible to create a XSD Schema Definition and include that in the web.config. But is there a less painful way of getting that schema?
With Configuration Section Designer I found a tool offering a GUI for creating my configuration section and generating the schema. But I like coding and I don't want to learn how to deal with another GUI.
So, is there a possibility of automatically generating the schema for my code?
So the bottom line is that we are working on a large web based project in ASP.NET webforms that is extremely heavy on data editing operations and we are not getting the code reuse that we want out of the presentation layer. We are currently generating a good portion of our DAL and that works great. However, the strategies for standardizing, improving UI development time, and code reuse for the presentation layer are less clear. I have been researching DyanamicData, potential code generation, and writing our own custom controls, but i dont see an obvious place to focus our efforts.
I created an ASHX file and use it to handle async file uploads.Since the site might not be hosted on our servers, I want to check for write permissions and delete permissions and supply the end user (site content editor in this case) with an error they can deal with.
Im using uploadify for the upload, Im not sure, but I`m guessing this complicates the return of a message that can be shown on the page, but maybe not.
Is there a way I can dynamically register an IHttpHandler in C# code, instead of having to manually add it to the system.web/httpHandlers section in the web.config.
This may sound crazy, but I have good reason for doing this. I'm building a WidgetLibrary that a website owner can use just by dropping a .dll file into their bin directory, and want to support this with minimal configuration to the web.config.
We have encountered this difference in file creation while using a HttpHandler Versus a Code Behind Aspx page. We are reading a saved jpg/png picture as byte array from a 'Image' field in sql server database and create a physical file in the server. Both the Aspx Page and Httphandler use the same code pasted below.
//Begin int docID = Convert.ToInt32(Request.QueryString["DocID"]); var docRow = documentDB.GetDocument(docID); // Retrieve the physical directory path for the Uploads subdirectory string destDir = Server.MapPath("../../Uploads").ToString() + "\"; string strFileName = destDir + DateTime.Now.ToFileTime() + "_" + docRow.DocName.ToString(); FileStream fs = new FileStream(strFileName, FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write); fs.Write(docRow.DocData, 0, docRow.DocData.Length); fs.Flush(); fs.Close(); // End
After the file is created, it is viewable as a jpg/png Image only in Aspx Code Behind. While in case of HttpHandler it is not a valid Image.
In my website I'm using the standard ASP.NET menu control. I already got so far as to write a custom control adapter to get rid of the rather tacky html output that is generated by the default control adapter.
One thing keeps buggering me though. Somehow ASP.NET is generating extra javascript that I don't want nor need for my menu controls, since I won't be using any of the dynamic features in the control. I replaced the control adapter, so it doesn't generate compatible HTML for that.
how I can prevent ASP.NET from generating the extra javascript for the menu control?
If i've the button outside an update panel (basically i'm using RadAjaxPanel by Telerik) it is working fine. But when the button is inside an ajax panel, even if i click OK for deleting the records the server side code is not called.
I have an aspx page that I cannot touch. It's a shared page. However, I want to override the navigation control that the page provides and instead use the default content on my masterpage. So, I'm being asked to create an HTTP handler. This handler will intercept requests for the page and remove the control that is overriding the default content. One problem is that the Content control has no ID. I've hooked into the page's PreInit event and am attempting to traverse the control heirarchy using a recursive method that will find the control using the ContentPlaceHolderID property. However, when I go to access the page's Controls property, it shows a single control, which is my master page. I cannot seem to access any other controls on my .aspx page. Would anyone know how to be able to find the Content control?
I have several checkbox controls on my web form that are not server controls (runat="server") How can I access these controls form my C# code? Can this be done with document.GetelementById from the server side using C#? Or some other technique?
I am not allowed to make these server controls (runat=server) because of a requirement.
I have created file upload funactionality along with progress bar in my project for this. I have referred following jquery tool you can see here.[URL]with the respective funcationality. i have created one .ashx file for string file on server but when i try to store file on server it gives me error.Could not find a part of the path so i put whole path in the respective code but still i m getting some error. my code is
Im using a httphandler to response another pdf file in case requested file not found. Its working fine in local development pc but not working in web server. Mapped .pdf as wild card mapping too but no result yet. Still i'm getting the 404 error.
I created a HttpHandler for downloading files from the server. It seems it is not handling anything...I put a breakpoint in the ProcessRequest, it never goes there.
public class DownloadHandler : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { //download stuff and break point } }
It never stops there, as mentioned. I also registered it in the web.config.
I am not sure about the path part of that entry. What do I have to enter there? I am downloading txt files, but the URL does not contain the filename, I somehow have to pass it to the handler. How would I do this? Session maybe?
Setting value in html control in code behind without making server control
<input type="text" name="txt" /> <%--Pleas note I don't want put runat=server here to get the control in code behind--%> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" OnClick="Button1_Click" />
Code behind
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack) { //If I want to initlize some value in input, how can I set here } } protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Request["txt"] // Here I am getting the value of input }
I want to write an HttpHandler to redirect traffic to various webpages on the server. The user will type in http://www.thisissupposedtoberedirected.com/site12 and should be redirected to the appropiate site, in this example site version 1.2
I know how to program in ASP.NET and C# but I don't seem to grab the finer detail about website management. How can I manage to get this done? What should I do in the web.config?
