Json - MVC - Request Contents Of One Page From Another?

Mar 10, 2011

I have to write a page method in ASP.Net that returns a JSONP result. In order to build its payload for return however, it has to read a URL from another domain, passing it some parameters that were passed to it originally. I suppose I'll need to screen scrape the results to see if the login credentials worked. Could point me toward ideas that might begood for ASP.Net or ASP.Net MVC?

Read An External JSON File Using Json.NET On Page Load?

Dec 29, 2010

I have a text file named gisQuery129.json that is created using Json.NET - [URL] There is an example on how to create a JSON file and I have done that successfully, but I want to read the file on a page load event and add the values to .NET textbox controls for input values in a query. The created file looks like the following:

{
"myData": {
"randomNumber": "129",
"Application": "MyMapApp",
"FeatureId": "ALL",
"Feature": "ALL",
"spatialQuery": "FEATURE_ID= '11111' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 1 AND RAND_PARAM= 129 OR FEATURE_ID= '22222' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 2 AND RAND_PARAM= 129"
}
}

I want to read the data in the above sample JSON data and then populate my textboxes something like this:

txtRandParam.text = "129"
txtApplication.text = "MyMapApp" and three more text boxes after that.

};
var DTO = { 'OrderInfo': OrderInfo };
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",

MVC :: Obtain Url Query String During Json Request?

Sep 16, 2010

So I'm writing an MVC application, and have a JsonResult post back to obtain some item information for scanned items on a warehouse application I am writing. I'm trying to obtain a URL query string value though, and cannot seem to obtain one via the normal 'Request.QueryString['variable']' way... Is there a way to do this? I also thought about just passing the parameter into my post, but I already have a single value on my jquery post, and I am unsure if I can tack on more values to this.

Would Enumerating Folder Contents And Checking Existence Of Several Files On Each Web Request Be A Serious Performance Penalty

Feb 14, 2011

As an extensibility option for my web application I would like to allow the user to add sections to it by simply making new folders and uploading files to them. So, for instance, if they created (in the webroot): /UserContent/StaticPages/First/Second/index.txt. Then in the main menu there would be a new menu point "First" with the submenu point "Second", which would lead to markdown-parsed version of index.txt. This way the user can upload any static menu points he wants (such as "About us", "Contact us", "Our Mission" etc.) Another extensibility point is that I would like them to add headers/footers to specific webpages in a similar fashion. I'm using ASP.NET MVC3, so there are pretty URLs, and it would be easy for the user to just create: /UserContent/Additions/Store/Categories/35/header.txt

And when someone opened [URL] the markdown-parsed header.txt would be prepended. This is simple for the user, and simple for me (I don't need to make sophisticated admin panels and WYSIWYG editors). However I'm worried about the performance. This scheme means that on each GET request I would need to scan the /UserContent/StaticPages folder and check for the existences of the header/footer files (several, because parent levels can have their header.txt/footer.txt as well).

I could cache the result, but then I have to manage the cache and the user will need to know that changes can take up to X minutes to display. Would this be a premature optimization? There won't be much data in those folders, so Windows will probably be able to easily cache their contents itself.

C# - Changing Page Contents On Postback?

Aug 9, 2010

I have a survey, where you have to click through several pages with questions. I use a "Next" and a "Previous" button for doing this. I use a session for keeping tabs on my position. However, this is a problem.

I use the button_click event to increment the page counter, but since this fires after the page_load event, nothing happens on the first click, and for every click thereafter everything is one page behind because the questions are rendered before the counter is incremented.

Is there any way to solve this without using the query-string?

Comment response 10:15:

My understanding is that the following happens:

The first page loads and the counter is not set. The counter is set to 1. The first page is displayed. The user clicks the "Next" button, firing a postback. The page loads, displaying the same set of questions, because the counter is still on 1. The buttons Click-event is run, incrementing the counter. However, the page is still displaying the old questions.

After this everything is one page behind because the questions are rendered before the click-event is fired, incrementing the page counter.

C# - ScriptManager When Trying To Email Rendered Contents Of Page?

Mar 24, 2010

I recently added a Telerik control to an ascx that is included in an aspx page. This page has a "Send email" button, which when clicked will email the user the rendered output of the page. The Telerik control I added requires a ScriptManager, so I added that to the ascx. However, now the email button won't work. I get the following error:

The control with ID 'myIdHere' requires a ScriptManager on the page. The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it.I know the script manager exists because the page works fine when I go that url, it is only failing when it tries to email the rendered output.Here's a code snippet, any ideas as to whether there is a problem with scriptmanager when doing this sort of thing?

Page EmailPage = new EmailBasePage();

Query The Page For The Table So That The ASP Page Returns A Valid Page On Request?

Jun 17, 2010

I am wondering if there is anyway to grab the html that is generated from an ASP page.I am trying to pull a table from the page,and I foolishly used a static html page so I would not have to be constantly querying the server where this page resides while I tested out my code.The javascript code I wrote to grab to unlabeled table from the page works.Then when I put it into practice with the real page and found that the ASP page does not generate a viewable page with a jquery .get request on the URL.

Is there any way to query the page for the table I need so that the ASP page returns a valid page on request?(I am also limited to using javascript and perl for this,the server where this will reside will not run php and I have no desire to learn ASP.NET to solve this by adding to the issue of proprietary software)
