Override RenderWebPart (error : No Suitable Method Found To Override)?

Dec 17, 2007

I'm a complete noob to ASP.net and Sharepoint (mostly PHP background) so I'm trying to navigate this learning curve as best as I can.

Every example I read on building webparts suggests overriding the RenderWebPart method but when I do VS.net 2k5 spits this error out at me:

wp_test_1213_1453 RenderWebPart(System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter)': no suitable method found to override

My li'l method reads:

protected override
void RenderWebPart (HtmlTextWriter output)

I have a ProductService class that defines the following methods. It doesn't work, as I will explain further below, but it gives the compile error CS1061: 'ProductService' does not contain a definition for 'GetByid'. Unless I've dropped the ball on method overloading, why is the public overload of GetById not seen by other code?

Override Potentially Dangerous Script Error?

Apr 22, 2010

I'm getting this error below, but it is in Admin pages so it will never be a potentially dangerous request. Is there a way to override it?

A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00$MainContentPlaceholder$FormView1$FCKeditor7="<p><p>&lt;...").

Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. You can disable request validation by setting validateRequest=false in the Page directive or in the configuration section. However, it is strongly recommended that your application explicitly check all inputs in this case.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpRequestValidationException: A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client (ctl00$MainContentPlaceholder$FormView1$FCKeditor7="<p><p>&lt;...").

MVC :: Override Model Binding Failures Default Error Messages?

May 16, 2010

I am new to ASP.NET MVC and using ASP.NET MVC 2 with XVal. I am not using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider and instead using NHibernateValidatorNHibernateValidator attributes. I would like to know that, when failing to provide a value for a non nullable type, how can i override the vanilla messages. There are actually two scenarios for non nullable type with model binding failure

1) when the data the user entered isn't compatible with the data type (for example, typing in "abc" for an integer field). The default message for this is: "The value [AttemptedValue] is not valid for [Property]."

2) when the user did not enter any data for a field which is not nullable (for example, an integer field). The default message for this is: "A value is required."

I know that the [Required] validator from DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider is treated specially during model binding failures on non-nullable types, so that you're not stuck with the vanilla message 'A value is required.'.

Also The DefaultModelBinder uses [Required] attribute for the second scenario only.Since I am not using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider, I can not use [Required].Bearing in mind that I am already doing all the attribute validation and other business rules validation in my domain layer using XVal , What are my options here?

- Allow the model binding validation errors to occur, and then ignore and remove them from ModelState in my action method and refill it with my custom validation errors?

- Derive a custom model binder from and defaultmodel binder and override the onModeUpdated method ignoring all the validation?

Is It Possible To Override !DOCTYPE Tag

Feb 19, 2009

Is it possible to override <!DOCTYPE> tag?. I have a master page containing

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

and a child page with div tag for displaying HTML content from a web service.

The presence of <!Doctype> makes HTML controls on child page looks stretched out. If <!Doctype> is removed from master page, child screen controls look fine. But, I have been instructed not to remove <!doctype> as it would affect entire web site. So I will have to look for some other solution to this problem.

MVC :: Override HtmlHelper.LabelFor?

Jul 1, 2010

I am using VS2010 & MVC2 to develop a web app. I noticed that HtmlHelper.LabelFor doesnt contain an override that accepts either a css class or html attributes. I was thinking about writing my own override for this, but am struggling with it.

The current LabelFor method accepts a lambda expression and automatically extrapolates the property name, display name (if specified via [DisplayName] attribute and value and generates the label. How do I write my overridden to do the same, but also insert any htmlAttributes specified such as class, style etc.

i cant seem to selectively disable serverside validation using annotations. Data annotations and unobtrusive validation is an awesome feature and has worked out great for us thus far but trying to localize it has been fruitless.

Basicly i have a property in a model object like this (it wraps a DTO)

i can change the output text for things like data range, required, string length etc. but simple stuff like "this field has to be a number" seems hidden away.

C# - In EF4.1 Code First - Override ConnectionString Name In Web.configuration?

Mar 23, 2011

I'm creating a multi-tenant Asp.Net MVC 3 Web app, and using EF4.1 code first for the db model. For development I'm happy to use SqlServerCE in App_Data, and for production this will move to Sql Server 2008.

Say my context is called "MyModels", by default code-first looks for a connection string called "MyModels" in Web.config. This can be told to use a file in App_Data or changed to access a database in SQL2008. All fine so far.

But because of multi-tenancy, I'd like the SqlServerCE filename to match the unique id of the tenant (so App_Data would have "client_x.sdf", "client_y.sdf"; Sql Server 2008 would have separate databases). I can't work out how to direct to these different databases.

I've tried MyModels inheriting from DbContext and supplying a connection string (using a 'placeholder' conn string in Web.config and replacing "{clientId}" with the unique id), and I've also tried setting the connection string in the MyModels constructor:

base.Database.Connection.ConnectionString = xxx;

but this never seems to work. I always get the following error:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

( it's not yet 'configured' to use SqlServerCE, and so is trying to connect to Sql Server)

Tracing the code, Database.Connection.ConnectionString hasn't been read from Web.config at this point, so I can't search and replace that, and, possibly, it's getting overwritten by the 'placeholder' conn string later in the pipeline.I reckon this must be quite straightforward and I just can't find the 'hook'.

AJAX :: Override Icons For ValidatorCalloutExtender?

When I leave them blank then I get the default icons but when I try a different icon set then I keep getting "no image display or "X" for the icons.

I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem or am I doing something wrong since this should be pretty straightforward. The link below is the link I followed, everything works except the icons.

MVC - Local Resource / Attempting To Override The DisplayNameAttribute?

Jan 17, 2010

I am having an issue when attempting to override the DisplayNameAttribute in ASP.NET MVC to provide a localized string. The code itself is straightforward and similar to that in another Stackoverflow post link text

The code works for global resources but not so well for local resources. I have a registration screen and used the Visual Studio "Generate Local Resource" command to create my local resource file. The generated file is named Registration.aspx.resx and the App_LocalResources folder is created relative to the actual Registration.aspx page - as one would expect.

However, when I attempt to get the localized string using:

I receive the following error message.

Could not find any resources
appropriate for the specified culture
or the neutral culture. Make sure
was correctly embedded or linked into
assembly "FullAssemblyName" at compile
time, or that all the satellite
assemblies required are loadable and
fully signed.

Using reflector, I can see that the file is actually Registration.aspx.resources and not Registration_aspx.resources - the underscore/period being the subtle difference

I have toyed with the code quite a bit but no matter what I do, the file being requested is always different than that copiled in the assembly. For instance, if i rename Registration_aspx (in the generated Registration.aspx.designer.cs class i get the same error but this time the path is "...App_LocalResources.Registrationaspx.resources"

Has anyone run into this? Is there any way I can ensure that the resource found in my assembly has this underscore?

Web Forms :: Override Connection String On TableAdapaters?

Sep 14, 2010

Using TableAdapters I wanted to find an way to get the connection string out of the web.config in production, and override the. . . .

In order to pull a connection string from (a method, a web service, or what ever) just not the web.config.To return a connection string not from the web.config?

I know we can make the connection string of a table adapter public and change it when we access the table. I want one place (the ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings) change to pull the connection string from another method, just not the web.config. I do not keep connection strings in the web.config and would like to override this method.
