If I have a url as part of my website that points to a document:[URL]
is there any way to prevent someone from just going to that URL if they are not logged/authenticated into our site? The site has its own login username/password mechanism that was implemented where users log in.
I have a process where I ftp a textfile to a webserver and then process the file (load it into a database). The textfile is then deleted. How do I protect the textfile from being viewed/ accessed by a user while it exists? I'm using ASP.Net 2.0

When other users logs on to this computer and if they try to access the file, the document should not be accessible. Also consider that the document can be saved to a common server too, in which case, no one else other than the person who downloaded and filled the document should be able to open the document.

View 2 RepliesI have a web page in my project that views a selected pdf file. The problem is the file stays locked with the process w3wp.exe which I assume is the adobe file reader or something. How I can release this process after viewing it? Or another way of viewing it without locking the file?

When i try to view a PARTICULAR page in my web site, it prompts for user name and password. Irrespective of providing proper user name/password and clicking OK or directly clicking Cancel button, the page is getting loaded properly. I am not sure why the authentication screen appears!!! It happens only for that particular page. Initially I thought it could be with file permission but copy pasted another page (which works fine) and renaming it doesn't solve the problem.
EDIT
I copied the source from the browser for that particular page and saved it as HTML. When i try to open the HTML file, it prompts for authentication.
Solution
I disabled the Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS and it works fine.
I have an ASP.NET web site project, which I'm publishing to IIS on my Win2k8 R2 server. It has a default page called login.aspx. I set that up on the published web site.
Trouble is, every time I publish a new version of the web site, the login.aspx entry gets erased from the "Default Document" settings of the web site in IIS. This is very annoying. How can I publish my web site from Visual Studio without wiping out the default page every time?

I want to build a custom document management web application that ties in with sharepoint for the actual document versioning and storage. I'm hoping for something like a sharepoint widget that I can plug into my web application that would allow me to tie in with sharepoint and download documents, make edits to them, and upload them back to sharepoint, with sharepoint handling all of the versioning and storage. Basically I'm looking for a sharepoint API. If WSS is the answer to this, are there licensing issues that I need to consider?

But when we inspect element it is showing url of file which we dont't want.

I have xml document and wanting to pass it through wcf restfull service, i am able to do that by using string format i mean i can pass the xml as string param in the restful service and it worked but now my xml document becomes huge so if i pass it as string then it gives URI long error. any way i can pass the huge xml document through the WCF RESTFul service.

1. Response.Redirect("filepath/document.pdf"), or
2. Response.ContentType = "Application/pdf"

Both methods successfuly launch the PDF document displaying the document path and title in the title bar. For security reasons I'd like to HIDE the document title. Can someone advice how this can be done? (How can a PDF document be launched without showing the actual document's name)

I went to the designated folder and added Everyone with full permissions hoping I was missing a user and that did not work. I keep redirected to a "401 Unauthorized" page, which is the Login page. It first loads a 302 Found (Failed to load source for: http://localhost:4558) page then

Everything works well when I comment the attribute Authentication at web.config or if after I logged-in.
Before this happens, I delete all files at (C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Files). Don't you think this is the reason?
I'm under MVC, even if I remove the action filter Authorize(), I still get redirected to 401.

I'm trying to connected to a third-party server, that allows API access via XML post/response. I've created just a very simple test page with a button to press.... the button should just go to the URL, log in with basic authentication and then return the response. if I use a browser and go to the URL, I see the XML response. Usuing my app, I'm still getting 401 unauthorized. I've been at this for hours, I've searched the forums and googled extensively, still no luck. Also, this is an internal app to internal server so security is not the highest priority. I'm setting the UN and PWD for authentication in a simple form.

I feel like this SHOULD be pretty easy: Overall request for testing: Submit a web request to a URL, disable the SSL check (self-signed certs used), login with basic UN and PWD I supply, return the response to a textbox.
