I have added namespace in web.config pages section. Can use it in aspx not in ascx. What should I do ?
Update: have added System.Web.Security with import directive but still can't see User class in Intellisense why ?

I've been running through some tutorials (worx Professional ASP.Net 4 in c#) but have become stuck after creating my data adapter and trying to reference it. Steps I have taken to get this far: Added an 'App_Code' folder to project and added a dataset in it. I dropped a data adapter onto the visual dataset designer screen and followed the prompts for select statement etc. I tested the query and it worked. So under the App_Code folder I have a 'Product.xsd' file, which has 3 files under it (Product cs,xsc and xss files.) Created a new object 'Web-> Webform'. I dropped a gridview onto the form and a couple of textboxes and a button for filtering (my select is narrowed down by a date range).Tried to put code into c# section to fill dataset on page load but ran into problems. I recently moved my class based on IUnityResolver from the mvc3 project (where I tested it), to a class library (which references all five Unity dll's. I'm getting the following error, why? In a usercontrol, SomeControl.NamingContainer seems to be reliable.
In a page that inherits from a MasterPage, this will return a reference to the ContentPlaceHolder, not the actual class that defines the aspx. What I would want in that case is SomeControl.Page
Parent will return the parent control in the heirarchy so isn't much use.
Is there any method for getting this directly regardless of what kind of thing it is?
I want to use the DataContractJsonSerializer class. This is contained within theSystem.Runtime.Serialization.Json namespace and the System.ServiceModel.Web dll.or some reason, when I add the using directive for the namespace, Visual Studio says it doesn't recognise the Json namespace in System.Runtime.Serialization.When I try to add the System.ServiceModel dll, nothing happens, which suggests to me it's already referenced. (Because nothing also happens when I try to add a reference to System.Web which is definitely referenced!)

View 1 RepliesI have an annoying problem when I'm developing in Visual Studio 2010. I am using an UpdatePanel in my .ascx file like this:
<asp:updatepanel id="upStuff" runat="server">....</asp:updatepanel>
in my control.ascx.designer.cs, the update panel is being defined like this:
protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.updatepanel upSettings;
this produces the error:
"The type or namespace name 'updatepanel' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"
The actual namespace should be System.Web.UI.UpdatePanel. When I go directly into the designer.cs file and change it, it works. However, every time I go back into editing control.ascx and save, Visual Studio always changes it back to system.Web.UI.WebControls.Webparts.updatepanel. I'm not sure what is causing this. Is it how I should be referencing namespaces and classes in my project? I'm using .NET 3.5.

I have to build a few ascx partial views in my MVC applications to encapsulate re-usable functionalities as well as archive SOR and SOC. However, I encountered challenge how to encapsulate the business logic that drives MVC ascx views.In webforms, the code behind of an ASCX control can handle a button click event and browser still shows the same page with only one postback. How can I archive the same thing in MVC? When ~/Address/Edit/2 includes an ascx partial view with a button on it that calls another MVC action - let's say ~/ShareController/CommonAction - what is the best way for the CmmonAction to return to the very same view that includes the ascx file?Perhaps I am missing a common pattern in MVC web development?

The error is of the form;

Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Models' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 4 The type or namespace name 'AccountController' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 5 The type or namespace name 'IFormsAuthenticationService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

These errors seem to come from the HomeControllerTest and the AccountControllerTest.
note that i recently installed Azure Tools using the Web Installer..Dunno if that could be the cause or problem.

I am having difficulties how to construct my question, but if I have to put it simply the situation is that I have categories of products. I have an aspx with a repeater on the left that lists the categories. And I want the products to be listed on the right. Category number is variable so I made an ascx with a DataList in it. When I try to do foreach category, ascx = new ascx(); then the DataList within this ascx control is null.
ps: what I want to do is to preload all the products (thre is not much) and hide the divs and fadein fadeout them using jQuery when a category div is clicked.

I would note that I updated to VWD Express 2010 then had to revert back to 3.5 because my host at Arvixe had not updated my server yet. He then said he updated it and I reverted up to 4.0 again. It turned out he hadn't and I tried to revert back...and then this showed up and numerous other errors.
