I want to use a global data for MVC web application running on Windows Azure (e.g. something like a list of users having new messages).
For a normal webapp, I could use some per-appdomain storage like AppDomain.SetData or just static variable. What should I use for Azure instead (cache? blob storage? queues?) and what solution would be the fastest one?
I want to ensure a user isn't editing the same form data in two different browser tabs or windows (of the same web browser instance). The intention is to stop the user from accidentally overwriting their own data as they continue through a very long form process. On the server, ongoing data input through the screens is collected into the Session.
Assume for any browser, all tabs and windows run in the same instance of it (i.e. not each in a separate process). Obviously the browser tabs and windows share the same cookies in this scenario so cookie modification seems out of the question for viable solutions. This is also the reason they are sharing the same session state.
Considering that the form is already created and this is one of the final touches, how can I use ASP.NET, hopefully easily, to oversee this "feature"?
I am having a simple Azure cloud app(WebRole=ASP.Net MVC) which draws charts using ASP.Net Charting control. Chart RenderType = ImageMap Chart ImageLocation = "/Images/Chart_#SEQ(1000,1)" Number of app instances deployed on Windows Azure = 5 App contains a button which draws charts as per users parameters. When user clicks on this button, MVC action is called which provides necessary ViewData for drawing chart and returns a partial view which after getting rendered sends ImageMap and Image location to client.
When I try to draw charts from IE8 I always get the charts as per my parameters but when I simulataneously try to draw charts on FireFox sometimes I get wrong charts(wrong images). Is is due to roundrobin used - #SEQ(1000,1) or due to mutiple instances of my cloud app?
I have a Silverlight/RIA application that worked fine locally and on my IIS 7 server. Now that I've moved it to Azure, I'm getting EndpointNotFoundExceptions.

As far as I know, the current situation is this:Use SQL session state provider is possible (as I've read somewhere) but it's not supported by Microsoft. So it could stop working in the future. View 2 RepliesI have two WCF services configured with ASP.NET compatible mode to allow them to use ASP.NET session state. The problem is as follows:
1.- A call to the first service stores a value in the ASP.NET session state.
2.- A second call to the first service can read that value.
3.- A call to the second service can't read the ASP.NET session state value.
It seems that the ASP.NET session state is not shared between the two WCF services. Is there a way to share ASP.NET Session state between two WCF Services?
We are migrating an ASP Classic website over to ASP.Net. One of the big hurdles is the large amount of data stored in SessionState by the ASP Classic website.
I am looking for ways that session state can be shared between the two applications. I found the following link from microsoft MSDN that describes how to share session with a shared database. Unfortunately it uses the binary formatter to serialize into the database and I have recently had some bad experiences with said binary serialization.

I am using cookieless session manangement in ASP.NET 1.1. When the session is active and the user uses the same url in a new browser window or a new browser in different machine. since the session is active the url will validate itself. When user open new window with same session, i want show some custom meesage.

ASP.NET state service is running on my machine and the web.config is updated in both sites with the following code:

The allow remote connection is set to 1 in registry in order for the second web site to access the state server.Both web sites have the same machine key:

I have a bunch of EC2 servers that are load balanced. Some of the servers are not sharing session, and users keep getting logged in and out. How can I make all the server share the one session, possibly even using a partitionresolver solution

I want to do session Management in such a way that Session variable created in one Virtual Directory is easily available in another Virtual Directory. I want to achieve this using SQL Server 2005. Till now I have done the following things
1) In my web.config file I have added the following entry

I'm having trouble getting 2 identical ASP.NET MVC applications to share the same Session using a Session StateServer. The reason I'm trying to do this is we will eventually be deploying this app across 3 web servers that need to share the same state. We need to use StateServer because we are trying to minimise use of the db for non data-related storage.
The Setup: I've deployed the same code base to http://localhost/App1 and http://localhost/App2
both have identical Web.Config files with the following:

The Result:For both deployments, when the page first loads I can see that the mode is StateServer and the timestamp is getting set to the same time as the realtime value.. However, if this was working, only the first page should have the same time as the realtime value. The second page load should read from the StateServer because that timestamp value is no longer null, and display that time value. But instead, it's displaying the realtime value again.
When I refresh the page, I the timestamp stays the same and the realtime value is always updating. This indicates that the timestamp is being saved to the Session, but the time stamp value is always different for both deployments when it should be the same, so this indicates that the Session is not being shared.
I have problem in maintaining the application objects in the server when it is deployed in the web farm.In our application i'm storing the sessionID and and the column value ( "tvktnx55vl5mzr453dmaehit " + "A101" ) in arraylist and storing it in application object. when i test this it is ok. but when we deploy it we have one issue that is we cannot share the application object in web farm.

I have an ASP.NET MVC application that attempts to read a file in using a filestream and File.OpenRead().
When the path to the file is a share on the same workgroup, and I give access to NETWORK SERVICE for the share, this works perfectly as desired.
However, when the path to the share is a UNC path to a remote share within the LAN, with read permissions open for "Everyone", the "File.OpenRead()" method throws an exception saying "Could not find a part of the path".
In my test cases I'm debugging locally with the ASP.NET MVC app being given a UNC path to the computer that it's actually running on. It's a share on my C drive, being "Shared" with permissions to "Everyone" for read access.
Is there something in IIS that needs to be configured? If I try to impersonate, in this context, the impersonation doesn't matter because NETWORK SERVICE was the user trying to access the files when it worked for a share in the same workgroup.
Need to nut out Azure fast (not my choice), so figured I'd ask for pointers.

Where I work, we're planning to develop a web application (for internal use) with the help of ASP.NET MVC, me being the intended developer. I have no real background in web app development, but I have dabbled a bit with RoR in my spare time and loved that way of doing things. At work .NET is de rigeur however, so I am looking at ASP.NET MVC (looks promising so far, for that matter).
Since we're new to developing web applications, we're unsure about how to best handle the administration of the application's platform (i.e., the web server and the database server etc.), and are wondering if we might be better off deploying it on Azure. While I know that there is support for ASP.NET MVC on Azure, I don't know the concrete methods of managing an application throughout its lifecycle: create it initially, deploy new versions, change database schema etc. On the other hand, I know at least superficially how to manage Rails applications on Heroku.Could someone please provide us with some much needed advise on running ASP.NET applications on Azure compared to on-premise, and thus help us decide? If we could be pointed toward some practical info, tutorials perhaps, showing how an ASP.NET MVC application (or even just a straight ASP.NET application) on Azure is managed throughout its lifecycle,
I'm getting close to finishing a public-facing ASP.Net app and I'm starting to weigh deployment options. I'm an ASP.Net/SQLServer veteran but noob when it comes to Azure. I'm wondering how others have felt about the learning curve to effectively migrate a local dev ASP.Net/SQLServer apps into Azure cloud. More specifically:How steep is the learning curve towards understanding administration and programming concepts, and do you think it's worth the investment?What is Microsoft's support like if I have catastrophic problems from my cloud infrastructure and my live site is down? I'm currently running a site of a dedicated server but want to scale up using Microsofts Azure cloud platform in the future but im unsure if a certin part of my code will work on azure.The site consists of a gallery of items with an image for each item.The images are stored in a sqlserver database.
I have created a http handler that caches the images to disk and redirects the request to the image (as shown at the end of the post).The images are saved into a virtual directory called "imagecache" inside my ASP.NET application. (i.e. ~/imagecache/ ).
As the web app will run in many virtual machine instances on the Azure platform the images will need to be shared between the instances right?So my question really is.. What is the best way of achieving what I already have on that is compatible wit azure?Image gen code..

This is going to be a question really for someone who has knowledge with PingIdentity and ACS, which could be pretty limited.I've got my ACS set up, all working fine and I know how to add a custom STS (PingIdentity) but I can't find any of the PingIdentity Federation MetaData (FederationMetaData.xml) to authenticate with.
Apparently our current system's workflow is such:
Us -> Our PingIdentity server -> Supplier -> Supplier's PingIdentity server -> Route token back to us.
Would I have to use our local PingIdentity Federation MetaData as the STS in order to achieve what I'm looking for (same scenario, but with ACS)? And where can I find this?
does windows azure automatically scale up(by providing more instances), or I need to change this?
the extra small instance costs 0.05$/hour. According to Azure SLA I need to use at least 2 instances. This means 2 * $0.05*24*30=$72/month minimum. I can get on premise asp.net hosting for $5/month. Is there any offer I don't know about so I can build from the start on Azure architecture, or should I just switch to azure when I need more scaling and other servies that Azure offers because the difference in price is too high for me.
