Vb.net - Web Setup Class Is Not Defined?

Jun 10, 2010

I've got an ASP.NET application that I installed by creating a web setup. I ran into a problem where ASP.NET wasn't registered with IIS so it gave me a "installation was interrupted" message that told me exactly nothing. Anyhow, I finally got it installed, and I can access the main page, but it's telling me that my class isn't defined. The dll is in the same directory as the Default.aspx page

Here's the main error information

Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'SIValidator.SIValidator' is not defined.

Source Error:

Line 4:
Line 5: <script runat="server">
Line 6: Dim validator As New SIValidator.SIValidator()
Line 7: Protected table As New arrayList()
Line 8: Protected countyByDistrict As New Hashtable()

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.1873; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.1433

Am I doing it wrong? Is there some obscure setting that may not be set? I'm completely new to this VS deployment deal.

edit: As an aside, when I searched google 5 minutes later, this entry came up as the first result.

MVC :: Trying To Setup A Base Product Class That Will Be Inherited By A More Specific Class Later?

Dec 16, 2010

In my MVC project, I am trying to setup a base product class that will be inherited by a more specific class later. Here is my scenario. I have a table called ProductBase, it contains three fields, BaseProductId(PK), CatalogNum, and ListPrice. Every product in the system will share these attributes. Next, I have a table called Shirt, with three fields BaseProductId(PK, FK), Color, and Size.

I then setup an Entity Data Model that pulled in both of these tables and created classes BaseProduct and Shirt. So, in my model, I want to do something like this:

[Code]....

The main problem I have with this, is that if I do any kind of condition on CatalogNum or ListPrice, then my performance goes to crap. One of the main things we will want to do is something like this:

[Code]....

This takes an enormous performance hit, and I suspect it is because the partial class above returns to the database for each shirt.

The other problem I have with this approach, is that I cannot force the properties for the Shirt. What if I make a change to the BaseProduct? What happens when I have multiple product types, will I have to repeat this code? I assume I will need to make a change with the entity data model, but I am unsure where to begin.

Web Forms :: The Class Or CSSClass Value Is Not Defined

I include the global style sheet file on the master page's 'head' section, but the child pages show an underline on the class parameters I put on the HTML elements (and they show as 'warnings' in the error list). It still works and the styles do get applied, but how do I tell the pages that their master page has the style definition? (and I don't really want to add the global CSS file to every child page, that should be one of the perks of the Master pages)

Can't See Class Defined In App_Code VS2010?

Jun 25, 2010

I am using VS2010 and am creating an ASP.Net application.I have declared a class called "Calculator" in a class file called "Calculator.cs" in the App_Code folder.I have a form called "CalcDemo.aspx" with a code behind file. I try and use the "Calculator" class but intellisense can't see it. I thought App_Code is the common code repository for any classes I define and should be visible to all ASPX code behind files
The namespaces are the same like Webapp1.xxxx

Crystal Reports :: Don't Get .cs Class Defined From .rpt?

Feb 27, 2010

I am just starting with Crystal Reports and have been scanning articles on the web. I'm using the Push model so need to connect to a DataSet. All the articles I'm reading talk about creating a Crystal Report, for example, myCrystalReport.rpt. I have done this, connected my DataSet schema (.xsd file) to the report and actually get a pretty well formatted output in the Report Previewer in VS 2008. The problem is that in order to actually connect data to the report, I need to instantiate a myCrystalReport object. In the examples I've seen, there appears to be an autogenerated .cs class like code-behind for myCrystalReport. I do not get that, only the .rpt file. Is there something wrong with my VS configuration or do I need to take specific action to get

Web Setup Project - How To Get Selected Hostname For Installer Class

Aug 2, 2010

I have an installer class which I use to do some processing on the application after it is initially installed.

In the installer I have a custom dialog which requests a username and password. This is accessed in my installer class with Me.Context.Parameters("username")

After setting it as CustomActionData /username="[TXTUSERNAME]"

This is all fine. The first dialog of a Web Setup Project gets the user to select an IIS website from a dropdownlist and set a VirtualDirectory if required. I need to get the seleted Hostname but so far I have failed to find a reference to it in any documentation. I have tried things like:

Me.Context.Parameters("targetURL")
Me.Context.Parameters("TARGETSITE")

Security :: Custom NEW User Setup Which Build To Allow System Administrators To Setup Users?

Sep 21, 2010

I'm having trouble setting up a custom NEW User Screen. Here is my situation, I have a Request for Access Screen that uses the CreateNewUser Wizard Control. I want to leave the Question and Answer for this, however I also want a custom NEW User Setup which I build myself to allow the system administrators to setup users, but for this setup I don't want the administrators to have to pick the question and answer for the NEW user, so I would like to bypass this for this setup. However, my Membership.CreateUser keeps asking for it. How can I accomplish this? I've included a copy of my current web.config file. You will notice a AspNetAdminMemberhip which I use to allow the System Administrators to reset passwords.

Configuration :: Web Setup Package Not Creates The Setup.exe And Only Makes .msi Package

Oct 5, 2010

I have a web setup package project alongside an old .asmx web service. When I build it I only get 'MyService.msi' and not the 'Setup.exe' in the 'Release' folder after build. Normally the .msi suffices for installation, but on Windows Server 2008 R2 I am getting denied from installing the .msi pacakge. I can only install .exe packages after right clicking and stating "Install as Administrator".

The server admin is still new to 2008 R2 and not sure why I can't install an .msi because I am an admin, so for now if I knew how to get that web setup package to generate the Setup.exe file as well I see my other VS.NET setup packages create.

C# - Webservice Complex Types And Class Inheritance - Use The Properties Of The Base Class?

Mar 13, 2010

Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:

[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]
public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService {
[WebMethod]
public void save_client(aClientArgs client)
{
// Save client data
}
}
Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class:
public class aArgs
{
public string id = null;
public string name = null;
}
public class aClientArgs : aArgs
{
public string address = null;
public string website = null;
}
Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>
When I'm expecting the following:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<id>string</id>
<name>string</name>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>

So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?
