Why Using Gridview, Detailsview, Formview, Repeater, Datalist
May 15, 2010
am in commercial development for few months only, the team leader is not using gridview, detailsview, formview, repeater, datalist.we alwyas write our own looping to dislpay the data even it is read only.He said : we do this for better performance.and I am always thinking, so why microsoft create them???I checked other questions and articles, and I am still confused.
The title pretty much explains it. I want to bind a single item to a detail type control. I can bind to a repeater perfectly fine and obviously only one item will be displayed. It seems like there would be a better suited control for this. I know about FormView and DetailsView but they both generate a table which I don't really want. Something similar to the Repeater since it doesn't generate any content other than what you put in the template.
Is there an equivalent of the GridView.RowDataBound event for the DetailView and FormView controls in ASP.NET 3.5?I need to manipulate data after Selecting it from my database, but before it gets presented to the user. I've read the documentation but I think I've missed something because I can only find FormView.DataBound which is called after the entire control has been data bound. Something like an ItemDataBound event would be what I need....?!?
I have nested a repeater control in Gridview. Right now it is showing gridview rows and repeater header for every case(whether data is there or not for that particular grid view row in the repeater control). I want to hide the gridview row and repeater control header when there is no data present for that particular gridview row. That case I handled at code level by filtering the resulted data table.
Now the another problem I am facing: I have allowed the paging on the gridview i.e. pagesize 3. When page loads it works fine, but when I go to page 2 then it generates following error: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index
Below is the code to fill the grid, paging and fill repeater on rowdatabound event of grid.
I have a requirement to show the GoogleMap in DataList/Repeater for each row. I have the Latitude and longitude, address for each row in table. Below code works fine. but i am not able to show the map with each row of DataList.
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="GoogleMap.aspx.cs" Inherits="GoogleMap" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
I need a complete code reference for Detailsview and Formview using the code only:OnRowCreatedOnRowEditingOnRowUpdatingOnRowDeletingOnRowCancelingEditOnPageIndexChanged OnPageIndexChanging OnSorting OnRowDataBound
But I´m trying to do that programmatically, not with the sqldatasource. So I wrote the method that binds data to Detailsview and I call it in the page_load. The problem is that I have to click two times on the select button to view the detailsview. The first time I click on the select button nothing happens.
I have a gridview with a Select button. Clicking the Select button for a particular item, I need its full details displayed in DetailsView. how I can bind to DetailsView? Here is what I have so far.
Can't say I'm new to this, but I just can't see what I'm doing wrong. Can some one please take a look at this and point out why is my Edit event from the DataList not exporting the index value that is needed to populate a FormView? Below is my reduced code.
I have a Repeater control inside a Datalist controlI need to hide (Visible="false") the Datalist, if there are no records in the Repeater
DataListItemCollection Items = ddlmain.Items; for (int i = 0; i < Items.Count; i++) //binding here if (Repeater.Items.Count == 0) datalist.visible = false; [code]...
I have a ddl inside the formview that I can't figure out how to wire up properly. The formview contains detail info, but the ddl needs to list the entire set to items. Then I want the ddl's selected value be set from the recordset intended for the formview. I think it's just a timeing issue s I would like your help. Thanks, - EJM.
I have a page with a datalist and a formview. The page holds a newsletter and access to archived newsletters. I have set up the datalist so that each item contains a button control with a bound text. The formview holds an object with a bound data attribute. I have the page running with linq and the intitial page populates perfect. What I need to do though is be able to click a button in the datalist and have the formview rebind to the correlating data.
I found a few examples online and followed them, but wasnt getting any results, just errors..Here is what i have in my button event that i want to use to create the files..
So the page is 500px width, and everything should centered.I get a DataList with RepeatColumns on 5, and set it to horizontal and also i add a datasource to it, with 4 items.
Everything is centered. But if i add 6 items to it, the 6th is below the first, so not centerd but aligned to de left. Logically like you add it to a table, but is there a possibility to center everything?"
I tryed it with a repeater and divs with float:left , but then everything is align to the left, i just want to center everything.
I am trying to use pager into my webpage and it is easy to use it with gridview and listview but i want to use it with repeater and datalist and how it will be.
The following code successfully displays a record in a FormView and sets the FormView mode to 'Edit' when the user clicks on a LinkButton within a Repeater, however the record is not Updated. If I don't change the .SelectCommand and call .DataBind, I'm able to update the first record that is displayed. Naturally that's a moot point because the idea is to be able to update the record that the user selects in the Repeater.Because of the design of the FormView and Repeater, the record *must* be updated via the FormView. Updating the record via the Repeater is not an option.
I have this list of names where I want the location underneath each name but nothing is showing up. Is it not actually possible to bind the repeater's datasource to the items in the datalist because nothing is really selected in the datalist - it's just all there?
The select and show details do not meet my requirement, I need them on the page all together. Is there a simpler approach then datalist inside repeater?
I am trying to follow this tutorial(out of date) but the simplest I can find and understand to put a repeater or datagrid inside of a datalist.http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tutorial/DataGrid-inside-a-DataGrid/13926I get hung up in the cs part. Can I just add a sql datasource to the aspx page then call it from the cs like this somehow...my
aspects of some controls in Code Behind (VB) with controls inside a datalist and/or repeater. I have read a lot of stuff on using some tricks but none seem to work so far. I am new to ASP.net so some of the explanations are too cryptic as well. Below is a section of code that I am trying to change. This example is attempting to make the label visible if the dataitem is true and hidden if false. No matter what I seem to do I cann't reference this label to change. I also want to change the text on some other controls in this dataitem if the returned value is a certain value.
