MVC :: Posting List Of Checked Items To Controller Action Using JQuery Post?

Feb 16, 2011

I got a list of checkboxes on my form, and a jquery script that catch a button click to get all the selected items (in an array) and post to a controller action.

This is my script: (yes A, looked at your sample but cannot get this to work)

That alert will print out correctly (like 1,3,5).

However when the above post hit my controller action, "selectedInvestments" are null, which I can't figure out why (back to my tekpub jquery videos, can't go on like this)

JQuery Load And Datalist Linkbutton Not Posting Back

Feb 8, 2011

I am loading an aspx page into a div using jquery.load(). The aspx page loaded into the div has a datalist. Each datalist item has a linkbutton. My problem is that the linkbutton is not causing a postback though. Strangely, if I change the linkbutton to a button, it does postback. Also, when loading the page normally (not from a jquery.load event), the linkbutton performs correctly. What is it that causes the linkbutton to not cause a postback when loaded this way? And is there a better way to handle this?

MVC :: Unable To Redirect To Action When Posting With Json?

Nov 8, 2010

I originally have the question posted here, but I need as many eyes as possible on it.Essentially, I'm having issues redirecting to an action in mvc2 when working with JSON data. I post a stringified JSON object to an action and the action in turn redirects as needed. It worked previously when using form fields, but not when I'm posting JSON. To get posted JSON objects to properly bind to parameters objects in MVC, I'm taking advantage of the JsonValueProviderFactory class from MVC2Futures/MVC3Beta.Why is this occuring? The jQuery ajax call is telling the server "I'm giving you json, I expect html in return" and all actions pointed to via RedirectToAction calls are structured in a similar manner. I instead get stuck in a loop, continually hitting the originally requested action, with a prompt to reenter authorization information to boot! It seems lose authentication/authorization information in the process.The linked question on

MVC2 - Rendering An Action Link And Text On Same Line?

Mar 4, 2011

I will like to achieve the following html using Html.ActionLink:

<li><a href="/WhatWeDo/JohnDoe">John Doe</a>President</li>

The name "John Doe" and title "President" will be coming from a staff model. This is what I have:

<% foreach (var item in Model as IEnumerable<AkwiMemorial.Models.Staff>)
{ %>
<li><%= Html.ActionLink(item.Name, "GetStaffDetails", "WhatWeDo", new { staffID = item.Id }, null) %> item.Position</li>
<% } %>

Instead of rendering "item.Position" literally, I will like this string extracted from the model.

C# - Test A MVC2 Post Action With Validation When Using MvcContrib TestHelper?

Oct 12, 2010

I'm attempting to write a unit tests for an ASP.NET MVC 2 post action that takes a view model as its sole parameter. The view model is decorated with validation attributes such as [Required]. I'd like to test two scenarios. The first scenario is when a valid set of data is passed in (ie, all required properties have values) and a redirect to the list page is returned. The second scenario involves passing in invalid data (eg, when one or more of the Required properties are not set). In this case the same view is returned with error messages.The action signature is as follows:

public virtual ActionResult Create(NewsViewModel model)

The NewsViewModel class is as follows:

public class NewsViewModel
public Guid Id { get; set; }

Validation Of Viewstate MAC Failed. Using .Net Framework 3.5. Not Using Form Action?

Aug 29, 2010

I know this question has been asked million times but I think my situation is different here.I am using .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, there is no form action on the page and it's not happening when I try to submit the form quickly. I am not on a web farm either.I have a page with two GridViews. One Gridview acts as a master gridview and second as detail gridview. First Gridview has autogenerate select button and clicking select would bring related records in detail gridview at the bottom. I have a refresh Link button at the top. Everything works fine. I click refresh button and it works fine too.Ok when problem start happening when I leave the page idle for like 10 minutes or so and then I click Refresh button only then I get this "Validation of Viewstate MAC failed" error.

Is there a way to prevent the page load event from being called when the button is pressed? I know about using !Page.IsPostback in the Page load method. However I wish to avoid posting back to the Page Load method altogether when this particular button is pressed.

ListBox Values Not Posting Changes After JQuery Manipulation?

Sep 3, 2010

have an ASP.Net page with two ListBox components, rendered in the browser as <select> lists. I'm using jQuery to move elements from one list to another by manipulating the DOM. I then select all elements with the mouse and postback the form. That way, all the list elements are posted with the form.When I submit the form, in my button_save() event handler, the Request.Form[<<listbox ID>>] values are correct. However the ListBox controls themselves, specifically their Items collections, do not reflect my changes.I've also used Fiddler to modify the select items and submit the form. Same as above, the ListBox values are no different, though the Request.Form values are. Would anyone know what's going on or what incorrect assumptions I'm making?

JQuery Validation With Data Annotations In MVC2?

Apr 8, 2010

I am trying to make some sense of this validation stuff in MVC2. I followed various walkthroughs, all them for betas/rcs... and I cant' get anythign to happen. Note: THIS JQUERY - NOT THE MS AJAX STUFF!I have referenced MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation.js which i got got the mvc2 futures lib.

My model is:

The form bit of my ViewPage<User>:

As far as I can see the only additional thing that is being rendered is this:

Which is interesting/annoying for a few reasons. Firstly all of my annotations appear to have been ignored.Secondly FormId isn't even marked as required, and as this rendered text was taken from a page loaded with a null Model (add mode) the FormId field isn't in the form. Finally, this doesn't even result in any actual validation occuring (on the client side). All the server side validation is working fine.See I am using PasswordFor instead of EditorFor. Because someone at MS testing dropped the ball there. Yes EditorFor renders a password field, but it behaves differently to PasswordFor.. the value of the Password field is sent to the client (set in the value
attribute of the field). Fail.

Jquery - Best Way To Organize Files In A Large MVC2 Project?

Jan 27, 2011

I've looked all over the web for the best way to organize an ASP.NET MVC2 project. I've only seen examples of people using the default template for MVC2 projects. But is this the best way to organize your project if it is going to contain a large number of files?

We're in the process of building an application that is heavily built around jQuery for UI and ajax using JSON. So, as you can imagine, we will have many custom .js support scripts.

In our solution, we have placed all our support libraries (3rd party and custom) into respective projects. The MVC2 project that is also in the solution is using the default MVC2 template.

In the MVC2 project, the "starting" structure is still pretty much unchanged. Under the Controllers directory, we have each controller AccountController.cs and HomeController.cs (for example). Under the Views directory, we have three subdirectories named Account, Home, and Shared. In the Scripts, directory we have also divided that up with three directories, Account, Home, and Shared. And finally we have the Models directory, that is also divided into Account, Home, and Shared subdirectories.

As you can see we haven't deviated from the basic template that much. But, as we start adding stuff to this, we're realizing how cumbersome this might become when we get upwards to 20 or 30 views and 100 support .js files.

Adding Childs To List Of Parents With Jquery /mvc2?

May 11, 2010

I have a table of products on my page, each product has zero or more colors, the colors are shown as a list beneath the product. After the colors I have a button to add a color. The button will do an ajax call with the parent product id to a controller which will return a JSON object with color information. My problem is where to store the product id in the DOM, should I put it in a hidden field and use jquery in the click event of the "add color" to get to it? What is the best way to do this?

EDIT: The page is initially rendered on the server so I don't want to use jquery to add the id's to the page.
