ADO.NET :: Looking For Best Practices For Doing Inserts Into Multiple Tables / Based On A Single Dataset?
Nov 3, 2010
Environment: C#, ASP.NET 4.0, SQL Server 2008.
Here's the scenario: Buyers and Sellers (where all of the sellers have a unique D&B number).
I'm catering to the buyers, and I want them to be able to import a list of sellers based on the D&B number.
Here are the tables:
BuyersSellers - unique list of sellers - one record, no matter how many buyers work with them.BuyerSellers - lookup table - buyer_id, seller_id sets which buyers work with which sellers
ImportedSellers - temp table that holds sellers the buyer wants to add.AllSellers - master table that has all known sellers with D&B numbers (remote database).
Here's the process:
Buyer uploads list of new sellers, they get added to ImportSellers tableMatch ImportedSellers against AllSellers (valid), ignore unmatched (invalid).Add valid ImportedSellers to the Sellers table if they don't exist.Create BuyerSeller records for all valid ImportedSellers - using data from AllSellers.Delete all valid ImportedSellers, leave the unmatched behind so they know what they need to fix.
I've got the upload and import working, but now I'm a little stuck on how to do all of the matching and inserting, and do it as quickly as possible.
I have a stored procedure that returns 3 tables within the single recordset it returns. If I set a SqlDataSource to get data from this procedure, it works, but it only returns the first table. I want to have a GridView display the data from the 2nd or 3rd table using a SqlDataSource, but I can't figure out how to specify a particular table.
While there are some posts discussing this out there, I can't get a definitive answer about whether or not this is even possible (?). In a worst-case scenario, I can create another SP that only returns the 3rd table - but that creates a little maintenance headache that I would prefer to avoid.
I am working on a site where I will need to be able to track ad impressions. My environment is ASP.Net with IIS using a SQL Server DMBS and potentially Memcached so that there are not as many trips to the database. I must also think about scalability as I am hoping that this application becoming a global phenom (keeping my fingers crossed and working my ass off)! So here is the situation:
My Customers will pay X amount for Y Ad impressions These ad impressions (right now, only text ads) will then be shown on a specific page. The page is served from Memcached, lessening the trips to the DB When the ad is shown, there needs to be a "+1" tick added to the impression count for the database
So the dilemma is this: I need to be able to add that "+1" tick mark to each ad impression counter BUT I cannot run that SQL statement every time that ad is loaded. I need to somehow store that "+1" impression count in the session (or elsewhere) and then run a batch every X minutes, hours, or day.
Please keep in mind that scalability is a huge factor here.
I was in need of exporting multiple tables in a DataSet to an Excel file with multiple sheets. I found a very good article in [URL].[URL] was able to successfully export each of my datatables in the dataset to excel worksheets. This solution worked for small number of rows. But when the data got larger I am consistently getting the system.outofmemoryexception. THis is because the code is using up the memory when creating excel.
I have 5 tables of which one has a primary key called "pid" as follows in patientdetails table the pid of a patient is used to compare the pid in remaining tables so the data in matching pid records can be stored in dataset. I tried using stored procedure to get them together in one dataset but it just doesent happen. This is my stored procedure,
I think the execution doesent proceed after the first if exists statements, because only the data in patientdetails is stored in dataset. and one more thing. all test tables need not contain a data against every pid in patientdetails table.
Does anyone have some really great tutorials on how to use link with datasets that contain multiple tables that utilise primary key and foreign key relations? For eample
Table1 - id (PK) - language Table2 -id (PK) -programmingword Table3 -id (PK) -languages_ID (FK) -pgrammingword_ID (FK) -translatedword
Linq search for: Table3.translatedword where Table1.Language ='french' and Table2.programmingword = "yes" does this make sense? im looking for exampes/ tutorials for how to do this? or can anyone recommend any good books on linq?
I am having a hard time solving the following with an MVC view. My goal is to display data from multiple tables in a single MVC view. The bulk of the data comes from a table called Retailers. I also have another table called RetailerCategories which stores the retailerid from the Retailers table and also a categoryid linking to a Category table. Note that there are multiple records for each retailerid in the RetailerCategories table.
In the view I want to show a list of retailers and with each retailer I want to show the list of categories applicable to them. What would be the best way to accomplish this?
I have a dataset with 3 tables that are inner joined. Thsi dataset is connected to an object datasource which is connected to a gridview. So at runtime it displays data from the database. The problem is when I click on a save button to add information to the database it throughs me an error saying Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints. But if i have two tables in my dataset it works 100%. But the problem i need that 3 tables in order to pull the required information. And if i populate the gridview using code to select the information from the database and insert information it also works 100%.
I have a report displaying the data for an employee. If I wish to generate report for 2 employee, how I can do to make a single report contains both the data? (e.g.: 1st page display data for 1st employee; 2nd page display data for 2nd employee and so on) I need them to be in the same report/pdf file.
I have a dataset that comprises of multiple tables (about 20) linked together with constraints to reflect the relational database. My question(s):
1) Will having multiple tables affect performance? I'm asking this as there are often times I would not need to get data for all the tables, but only for specific tables.
2) If it does affect performance, would breaking up the tables into their own datasets be the best solution. It seems to me that by doing that, you would lose the ability to apply constraints among tables and tables that might exist in multiple datasets will be subjected to replication.
I would like to have everything in one dataset as I get a view of the related tables and their relationships and also because the Fill method allow me to fill tables, maintaining the hierarchy of the data, but performance is still a key factor.
After creating a dataset, which has CRUD statements generated two or more tables, which Data Control should I use that will allow me to insert data into fields into 2 or more tables from a single web form. I'm trying to create a web form that will allow the user to input student information, such as general information, medical information, etc.
I have a report which is runnin fine as it is using singe table Dataset(.xsd) . I want to expand the report and use more tables in it to show more information .
How can I do so. I am attaching my present code with this.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim stdate, enddate As Date Dim sql As String start_date.Text = Session("startdate") end_date.Text = Session("endate") Dim dt As DateTime = DateTime.Parse(start_date.Text, System.Globalization.CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("en-gb"))
I am writting a directory website that advertises fitness classes. These classes are listed by Class Type, and Geographical Area. Each Class Type can satisfy one or more of four Fitness Goals such as Loose Weight etc...
I have a table for Classes (classid, classname, classdesc, classtypeid, geoareaid) I have a table for geographic areas (geoareaid, geoarea) And I have a table for ClassTypes (classtypeid, classtypename, classtypedesc)
Which obviously links geographic area via the classes.geoareaid as a forgien key and classtypes by classes.classtypeid as a forgien key.
I can list all classes by type and also by geo area no problem, the problem arrises when I then also want to filter by goal.
The Goals Table (goalid, goal, goaldesc) is linked to the classtypes table via another table classtypes_goals (classtypeid, goalid) as each classtype can satisfy any of the 4 goals.
I am using a DataSet to fetch the data from a Stored Procedure in the SQL Database but because the classtypes can be linked to multiple goals I am getting duplication in my list depending on how many goals a classtype satisfies.
All I need in my data list is class name, class type and area I don't even need to display the goal I just want a drop down above the table that will filter the list and show only classes of classtype that satisfy the goal chosen.
I am getting Resultset from SQL server2005.It contains 4 tables.
Dataset ds=new Dataset();
ds=BLogiclayer1.TestMethod1(a,b,c,d);. This normal Dataset ds contains Resultset. ( I am working with RDLC reports. I added a Typed dataset to my project. I am using Typed Dataset as report dataset.) I want to add normal Dataset all the table values to Typed Dataset table as rows i. e. only one table in Typed dataset.I am trying like below.
//Typed Dataset name that I have added is salesdata.
One of my peer wrote a query based on multiple tables using joins. One of the table is in a different database The query was taking much time
1. Create an SP 2. Create a temp table and copy all records from the external db 3. Avoid using Left Join as much as possible and use Inner Join 4. Create and use indexes 5. Remove tables/columns that are not necessary
In this scenario, I would like to suggest to use Covering Index, but how can it be created for multiple tables and a temp table?
In order to keep the look and feel of my web forms optimized for a mobile device, what table/table row/table column border-style and position settings should be used (i.e. fixed, relative, static, etc)?
I am starting to design my own CMS , and i want it to be modular to add more functionality later by me or by any other developer I put my eyes on joomla CMS (very popular ,robust and extensible) I want to make a CMS with asp.net to be just skeleton and all functions are done through components
Functions like :-
User management Content Management ,editing and display etc.
My main idea is to let the skeleton to know from the query URL the required component and pass all other parameters to it and the component do the rest (parse parameters display results etc.)
the problem is how to achieve this how to call the component and and how to let it render its UI and pass it to the skeleton to put it in the appropriate place in the main site template
First: Using the wizards in Web Developer 2008, is it possible to create multiple inserts into various tables? Just looking for a Yes/No answer. What is the easiest, and best way to create a SQL query to search multiple tables, using a dropdown list as the criteria? Using 3 tables as an example: How would this look? Anyone know of some examples out there with regards to querying or updating multiple tables?
