Data Controls :: GridView Print Not Working When GridView Is Placed Inside AJAX UpdatePanel

Dec 15, 2012

Question for Print functionality in ASP.Net GridView control artical. I tried you code in my project, when click print current page, nothing happens.

So I download your code into my test web project "WebSite1", greate, it works.

Then in your CS.aspx page,

I added (which is the case of my project of using AJAX).

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server">        </asp:ScriptManager>
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">        <ContentTemplate>
<div>        <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server"
.......................... gridview stuff gose here .........................
</div> etc etc to close all the tags.

Now run, click print button nothing happens, no any error.

Can you see why put updatePanle for AJAX causing problem ?

I also have to pur EnableEventValidation="false" at top of the page to avoid

AJAX :: Validation Summary In JQuery Dialog Modal Popup Box Not Working With Update Panel

Dec 23, 2015

I'm using the ASP.Net Validation controls and I want to display the Validation Summary in a JQuery Dialog instead of the native javascript alert messagebox. I've found this solution (aspsnippets) by overriding the clientside WebForm_OnSubmit() function:

<script type="text/javascript">
function WebForm_OnSubmit() {
if (typeof (ValidatorOnSubmit) == "function" && ValidatorOnSubmit() == false) {
$("#validation_dialog").dialog({
title: "Validation Error!",
modal: true,
resizable: false,

[Code] ....

The WebForm_OnSubmit() function is being rendered by the BaseValidator control and in the form tag te following attribute is being added: onsubmit="javascript:return WebForm_OnSubmit();

I am running into a problem on a page which has an UpdatePanel. The input field with the validator (1 to make it simple) is in a Panel within an UpdatePanel. The Panel is set to Visible=False at the first Page Load. There's a button inside the UpdatePanel which makes the Panel with the Validator Visible.

When this happens, the WebForm_OnSubmit() function and the onsubmit="javascript:return WebForm_OnSubmit(); attribute of the form tag are not being rendered because it's an AJAX callback and the form tag is outside the updatepanel (in a master page), so the validation summary will not be shown in the jquery dialog.

Validation is being performed, so the validation summary wil be shown in a div on a page, but the validation is not being called by the WebForm_OnSubmit() function in this case, because it's not being rendered.

Here's the markup of the page:

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:Button ID="btnNew" runat="server" Text="New" />
<asp:Panel ID="pnlEdit" runat="server">
<table>

[Code] ....

So, when the validators are not visible at the first load and they will be made visible by an AJAX callback, the WebForm_OnSubmit() function and the onsubmit="javascript:return WebForm_OnSubmit(); attribute of the form tag are not being rendered on the pag. Because of that, the WebForm_OnSubmit() function will not be called and the validation summary will not be shown in the JQuery dialog (although it is being shown in a div on the page). How can I get the Validation Summary to be shown in de JQuery dialog in this case?

Is there another function that has to be overriden for this case? I know I can use a Full Postback for the New button and then all the stuff needed is being rendered on the page, or I can make the panel not visible by using a style, but I don't prefer that because there are a lot of pages with this situation.

One solution is to use a dummy textbox with a dummy validator (with a dummy validationgroup) of which I set the display to none. Then this dummy validator will cause the the WebForm_OnSubmit() function and the onsubmit="javascript:return WebForm_OnSubmit(); attribute of the form tag to be rendered.

Validation In Ajax Updatepanel - Not Working

Mar 15, 2010

I have a panel (say, panel1) inside another panel (say, outer-panel).The panel1 is visible only when a checkbox is checked in the outer-panel. I am using ajax update panel to do this.
Now I have many text boxes in the panel1. I have to put a validation on all the boxes.

I tried to test this by putting validation on 2 boxes and this works fine on my local machine. When I put the same logic on the server, it does not. Of course the page on my local machine has fewer text boxes compared to the page on server. But I do not understand why the same logic works on my local machine and does not work on the server. I did try to put a validation group, but of no use.The page on the sever is a very long one and also it has a captcha control.. when ever I try not to enter text in one the text boxes which has validation and then hit submitit redirects me to another page with out prompting for the validation error.

AJAX :: Html Inside Updatepanel Not Working

Mar 31, 2010

The following is not working (does a full postback). Note: HTML tags inside updatepanel. We can' t have HTML tags inside updatepanel? If so, what's the work around?

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel2" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<td><asp:DropDownList ID="ddlDEPT_ID" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true"></asp:DropDownList></td>
<td><asp:Label ID="Label5" runat="server" Text="Sub-Department:"></asp:Label></td>
<td><asp:DropDownList ID="ddlSUB_DEPT_ID" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList></td>
</ContentTemplate>
</asp:UpdatePanel>

The following works fine. AJAX in action.

<asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel2" runat="server">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlDEPT_ID" runat="server" Width="200px" AutoPostBack="true"></asp:DropDownList>
<asp:Label ID="Label5" runat="server" Text="Sub-Department:"></asp:Label>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlSUB_DEPT_ID" runat="server" Width="200px"></asp:DropDownList>

AJAX :: Response.write Not Working Inside UpdatePanel?

Feb 23, 2010

I have populated my data using DataRepeater Control and i have a Delete button on that so each and every row has a delete button which allows user to delete a single entry from DB. I have put this control inside UpdatePanel so i can avoid full page postback.

When i delete the row from the database and try to show a alert message using Repsonse.Write it throws me the below error message

Error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled. Details: Error parsing near 'itle||Untitled Page|<script language='ja'. Source File: [URL]

But, If i remove my update panel its coming up well, is there any solution so i can show alert box after a row been deleted ?

AJAX :: UpdatePanel Not Working When Html Editor Is Inside

Really the title explains it. When i have an HTML Editor (from the AJAX Control Toolkit) inside an UpdatePanel, i get the error message: "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Invalid set operation on read-only property"

I was looking online and it appears it's because the editor uses javascript - is there any workaround for this?

Making The Container Of A Validation Summary Visible When The Validation Summary Becomes Visible?

Nov 29, 2010

I have the following markup. The errorPanel was first only used to show server side exception messages, and works fine like that. Now I'd like to incorporate my validation summary into that same errorPanel.

[code]....

My problem now is that the required validation happens client side, and I want to keep that, so I have no server side opportunity to make errorPanel visible, in order to make the validation summary visible.

I see I have two options: Do validation server side, and use my code there to make the panel visible, or hook into the client side code somehow and catch an event there when the summary should be made visible, and then also make the errorPanel visible. How could I go about the latter?

This happens only when I remove the UpdatePanel from the form. If the Gridview/Detailsview pair is inside an updatepanel, the focus never goes to the DetailsView.How can I make the focus on the DetailsView inside an UpdatePanel

FileUpload Control Inside Gridview (ajax Updatepanel)

Mar 11, 2011

I've got a fileupload control inside of a gridview so that each row (item from the database) can have an attachment associated with it. I've got a button next to the fileupload control (besides the default browse... button to select the file) to actually take the file and upload it to a file server. This works great if I use this button "Upload". However, underneath my gridview I have another imagebutton that is outside of the gridview, its just sitting on the form / page. The idea of this "Update" button is when end users make changes to the grid I can simply loop through the grid and update the values they have entered to the database. This also works great.

Now here is my issue assume a user has 3 rows in the grid view. On 2 of these rows he decides to add an attachment but he never clicks the "Upload" button he only uses the standard browse button to select the file. Now instead of clicking the "Upload" button that is on the grid view he ends up clicking the "Update" button outside of the grid thinking that it will save his attachments. So I decided to write code to grab the fileupload control from the grid using .FindControls("NameOfFileUploadControl") in my Update button loop where I loop through all the rows. Then I check if myFileUploadControl.HasFile property to see if there exists a file and if there does upload the file then continue with the code.

The issue is when I click this "Update" button .HasFile always returns false even though I can see the text string of the path in the fileuploadcontrol textbox (the standard one next to the browse button). Is it because this goes back to the page load event and checks if it is a post back? What causes this and how can I fix it? Im adding some code because im still confused with this

Protected Sub SaveGrid()
For Each Row As GridViewRow In Me.gvLineItems.Rows
Dim f As FileUpload = CType(Row.FindControl("fuAttachment"), FileUpload)
'todo: this part is not working
If f.FileName.Length > 0 Then 'returns 0 always
'this returns 0.
end if
if f.HasFile() then
'this also returns false
end if
Next
End Sub

This method gets called on a click of a button. The fileupload control is in an of a gridview that is wrapped inside of an UpdatePanel:

<asp:FileUpload Width="90px" Font-Size="xx-small" ID="fuAttachment" runat="server" />

Ajax - Gridview Paging Doesnt Work Inside UpdatePanel

Jan 26, 2011

Altough questions somehow similar to this have been asked for a number of times, but the question is still unsolved. Here is the question: I have a gridview which is contained in a tab container ajax control which itself is inside an updatepanel. Gridview works excellent and its corresponding methods are fired accurately, but when I enable paging, (e.g.) after I click on page 2, the gridview hides itself. here is my PageIndexChanging method:

protected void GridView1_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e)
{
GridView1.PageIndex = e.NewPageIndex;
GridView1.DataBind();
UpdatePanel2.Update();
}

Why paging causes gridview to stop working correctly? What can I do?

AJAX :: UpdatePanel Inside GridView Causes Other UpdatePanels On Page To Post Form Data?

Jul 21, 2010

I hope this is a really easy question but I'm struggling with it. I have a GridView that has an UpdatePanel within a TemplateField.

The idea is that the user can make simple alterations without a full page load being required.

I have simulated my page functionality in the following example, which simulates a database hit, gridview databinding and updatepanel functionality.

When you press any of the + or - buttons in the GridView, the form controls in the bottom UpdatePanel also post their contents back. I have seen this by using Firebug. On my real page however this is causing excessive bandwidth and is nearly the same as a full postback.

how I can force ONLY the appropriate UpdatePanel's contents to postback for processing, rather than all the UpdatePanels?? I've tried experimenting with Triggers but just can't get it working properly.

AJAX :: Showing A Control On Click Of Linkbutton Column Of Gridview (present Inside UpdatePanel)

Jan 8, 2010

I have put my gridView inside an UpdatePanel with Timer control for auto refresh.The gridView has a linkButton column which is bounded to referenceNo column from database.

On click of this link button i want a panel to get visible. This Panel contains details corresponding to the referenceNo shown in differnt controls (mostly texboxes). Do i necessarily need to put the panel inside the Update Panel.If not how do i do it?

I have tried putting panel outside UpdatePanel, but it doesn't show panel on clicking the linkbutton nor does the values are updated inside this panel (if panel's visibility is set to true by default for testing purpose).

Web Forms :: LinkButton Not Causing Validation Inside UpdatePanel (normal Button Does Though)

Jan 30, 2011

I am using a MultiView inside an UpdatePanel with several views within it and a button on each that is supposed to validate the controls on the current view before moving onto the next view in the sequence (a bit like the Wizard control except I wanted more freedom).

I am using an LinkButton but the problem is that the LinkButton is not causing validation -- I have also tested with an ImageButton which isn't causing validation either. However, when I use a normal Button, the validation does work. I have grouped my validation controls into a ValidationGroup and made sure that CausesValidation is turned on.
