Access :: Every User To Modify Specific Id In Access Db?
Jan 17, 2010
I have an acess db which has primal key ID - Customer, and personal data of the customer .
In another db OR the same, to have the username and login of the customers.
I want to make a login form so if u/n & pass of a customer is correct, to have access to modify (insert, delete, update) his data of the db - his ID's only.
Is there anything missing in IIS 6.0 that prevents me from (Insert into table) using MS-Access?
Explain: The application works fine under Visual Studio 2008 IDE the insert into table works fine with no error, Also I tested with hosting provider and works fine with no problem. but now I have published the same exact app in a dedicated server windows 2003 with IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.
I have my code output a gridview with all the data with an option to select records. I'm trying to make a code which would allow me to select a record, and then print this record using a specific Report stored in MS Access.
I've located the code to print the Report it self, but it prints ether all the records or a range.
I'm building a website that just allow each person in my office to access the page from their own PC placed at the office only. It looks like I need to identify a client from within the codes on the ASP.net web server. How can I do this?
I am implementing membership provider. For example, anonymous users are not allowed to acces pages under the folder, namely XXX.
When user clicks to navigate any of those pages I would like to display a popup window. I know I can implement button clikc events. But there are many buttons and links. What is the most effective way to do that?
I'm trying to access an SQL Server Express database out of an ASP.NET HTTP request handler. The handler is run under ASPNET account and uses "integrated security" in the SQL connection string and so I get an error message saying that login for ASPNET account failed and so I can't access the database. This seems to be a very common problem and most answers say "grant access to you database to user ASPNET".
I only have Visual Studio 2008 and I can't find how to change access permisssions for a database. Specifically I use Tools->Server Explorer and I can see all the tables in the database but can't find how to change access permissions. How do I change access permissions to my database using tools shipped within Visual Studio 2008?
My Company registered in certain services on the Web and are relying on the company's Ip to use these services, Director asked me to allow some staff to enter these sites from outside the company, after authorized staff enter to comany's site, How could they use the company's Ip to allow them to browse services sites ? Do I need to use a method such as proxy sites like youtube proxy? or there is another way?How do I do this in asp.net?

My students are working on an ASP.net VB application for a Web Programming competition and we are having problems with a page where we want an URL string to return all values from our database. Here is the page: [URL] If you use the jobs by category menu on the left side, if you select a job category (ie retail) it will pull up all the jobs from that category. By using a query in the URL like this: [URL] What we need is an option that would pull up all of the records regardless of category. So we made a menu option that passes the value "all". Like this: [URL] We use this information for the dataset we created (we're using Dreamweaver, ASP.net VB and and Access Dbase). We made a dataset SQL as follows:
SELECT * FROM jobs, businesses WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin and jobcategory = ? ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC
This works fine if a value is passed. For example if "retail" is picked from the menu it passes the value just fine and returns all jobs that have "retail" as the job category in the database. My problem is, how do I modify the above Select statement to show all jobs in the database if the value "all" is passed for the jobcategory. My first thought was to create an If statement that says something to the effect of:
If jobcategory = all THEN SELECT * FROM jobs, businesses WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC ELSE SELECT * FROM jobs, businesses WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin and jobcategory = ? ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC END IF
But I haven't been able to figure out the correct syntax. I also tried making this work by using a query in MS Access:
SELECT * FROM jobs, businesses WHERE jobs.contactlogin=businesses.contactlogin AND (jobcategory = @jobcategory or @jobcategory = 'all') ORDER BY jobs.dateposted DESC;
(which does work within MS Access) and calling the query in the Dreamweaver dataset but apparently MS Access can't do that. This seems like it should be easy but so far this problem is kicking my butt.
I am deploying a public ASP.NET website on an IIS7 web farm.
The application runs on 3 web servers and is behind a firewall.
We want to create a single page on the website that is accessible only to internal users. It is primarily used for diagnostics, trigger cache expiry, etc.
/admin/somepage.aspx
What is the best way to control access to this page? We need to:
Prevent all external (public) users from accessing the URL. Permit specific internal users to access the page, only from certain IPs or networks.
Should this access control be done at the (a) network level, (b) application level, etc.?
i have a web application which can be accessed via intenet the application is running on iis and configured using a router..i m looking for a good solution where i can give access to only authorized computers rest of the computers cannot access the applcation for eg:- if i have a users in office1 in sales dept. and he access the application from his office, so i want to deny the same user or any other user, that he cannot access the same application from home or antwhere else.
I need to restrict access to my website by physical PC. When a user signs up I want to be able to restrict access to one machine for that account so it cannot be shared round, if, for example, somebody else in the same office wanted to access the system on their PC they would need a seperate sign in.
I have done some investigation and I "think" the only way is installing an ActiveX component (which isn't an issue that is restricts to IE only) and then read the users MAC address. Am I trying to over complicate things or is that the only way? I realise that MACS can be spoofed but this is not much of an issue.
This is really a couple of questions about preventing unauthorized attempts to access a specific file type. Here go the questions:How do I prevent users from directly requesting a type of file? Do I write an HTTP handler? After preventing a direct download, can my app still explicitly serve that file type? How?
Now, I have a ListView populate products from LinQ DataSource, and a DataPager, when I load the page, it load page 1 of products(I have many pages of products), how can I acess a specific page (page number 2 for example) when I load page.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page. 2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.
I deployed a website where a logged user or an anonymous user can select data and download a XML file. The website generate the XML file in the server and then deliver it.
It works fine in my development environment, but after deployment, the anonymous user can download the file, but the logged user receive this error:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'd:HostsLocalUserheringerwebsiteUpload20110107094051.xml' is denied.
It is weird that as anonymous i can do it.
The website server help states this:
"Grant write, modify, delete access rights on website's folder
Your website executes under unique user account that by default has full control over the website's folder. So your application can create, open, read, write and delete files and folders inside of your root folder.
There is no need and no way to change this permissions.
If, when running ASP.Net application, you still unable to create file or update it, you have to check your Web.Config file for "<Identity impersonate..." tag and remove it.
The only exception is when the application tries to modify a file or folder in "Application_Start" event of Global.asax file. This is by design that user authenticated only after the Application_Start even. Before the user is authenticated your website runs under an identity of Application Pool which is "Network services". That account doesn't have access to the folder of your website.
To make it work you eather have to move the code that tries to modify files or folders out of the "Application_Start" event of the Global.asax file or inside the event you'll need to impersonate your user by code."
But i am not using impersonate and the tag is not in my web.config.
I have a database with tons of SP. Is there a way to grant a new user access to all SP so the user can execute then?If the SP inserts data in a table do I have to grant the the user that executes the SP so he/she is allowed to insert data
Can a query output made in MS ACCESS be accessed as a database in Visual Studio 2008?
I have a Parent and Child Table in MS Access with a one-to-many relationship. I created a query in Access that would produce a result table and I want the contents of this Query to be displayed in a Data Grid in Visual Studio 2008.
I made a project to use the access membership provider from [URL] and it works. But I need to edit my database but when I configure my database, I cannot see the tabel, I can only see the queries in mdb file. when I select the field from query, I am unable to update it. My code is as follows:
