Architecture :: Should The Unit Of Work Point To The Service Layer Or The Repository And Then The Repository Point To The Service Layer

Jan 26, 2011

Just wondering, in an ASP.NET MVC3 environnement with entity framework. Should the Unit of Work point to the service layer or the repository (and then the repository point to the service layer) ?

Ive saw two example:

* One where the unit of work and repository both have an instance to the service layer..

Link: Entity Framework 4 CTP 4 / CTP 5 Generic Repository Pattern and Unit Testable

Doesn't use a service layer but its obvious that one could be use in that case.

* Second where the unit of work have an instance to the repository which have an instance to the service layer..

What would be better ?

Architecture :: How To Design A Centralized Business Or Service Authentication Architecture

Sep 22, 2010

i want to create a centralised business or Service authendication architecture in .net. for example, we have a clients like c1, c2, c3, c4, ... etc. everybody logins seperatly as well as grouply. ie, if client "C1" logins [with login authentication] he can access c2 , c3, c4 also without login authendication. So its like a google. if we enters gmail account, we can access orkut, picasa like that.. i need the cetralised architecture.

And, client "c1" seperately asks seperately how will be the authendication architecture.

so give me the single solution for both these two scenarios. how will be the architecture for these two and how is the Data Base (Login) Structure.

MVC :: Response.End And Filters / Can Get Response.End() To Work When Called

Nov 19, 2010

I have a static method that I use to control REST styled HTTP codes when my mvc application encounters an exception.

The method looks like:

[Code]....

This is static becuase then I can call it within an action or inside a filter. The problem I am having is that when I call RaiseException inside a filter, it stills goes into the requested action. Response.End() doesn't seem to have any effect. Any clues on how I can get Response.End() to work when called?

Architecture :: Create architecture design For WCF Service?

Aug 10, 2010

I am try to create architecture design for WCF service.

We have WCF service that we have to expose to third party so then can request with xml and get back xml response.

The wcf service should do the following:

- Accept the request call with xml

- Check xml against the schema

- Parse the xml

- Authenticate the incoming xml by username and password that will be in xml

- Send back the response

If anybody can let me know what kind of design I can use or is there any pattern available that I can take it and then extend it as per my requirement.

Architecture :: WCF Service Be Used To Receive Data As Needed From A Remote Sender Or Service?

Feb 25, 2011

I am not sure which approach I should use. I have a web application that needs to get/receive data from a third party application that is in a secure remote network. The data needs to be secure during transport. The data layers cannot be exposed and the databases will not talk to each other. The data will be received from remote application on demand, or will get at scheduled intervals.

I have looked at WCF, but not sure if this will work. Can a WCF service be used to receive data as needed from a remote sender or service? Is this a secure way of doing it? I have also looked at SFTP using some XML/XSLT, but I don't think this is the right way to go. In addition, some data may be transported from my web application to the remote application (mostly reports at first). What protocols are used to transfer data between HIPAA compliant applications?

Architecture :: DAL As Web Service - Adding A Service Reference To Project And Then Using The EF4 Context And Writing LINQ Queries Against The DB?

Feb 10, 2011

I'm currently trying to work out the best way to build this web application, which will then be intergrated on other systems, such as WinForms, Intranets etc.

We hope to include the usual layers i.e. DAL, BLL, BOL and UI but I have been experimenting with Entity Framework 4 and WCF Data Services and managed to get something in place where I was using WCF as a gateway to EF4.

i.e. Adding a Service Reference to my project and then using the EF4 context and writing LINQ queries against the DB

e.g.[Code]....

Now with the current setup I would still need to write a DAL Class Library, that interacts with the Data Service, because as I said WCF Data Services only seems to be a gateway, I can't see where to put the code (above) in the Data Service and then how I could these methods.

My questions are: 1. How do I develop a WCF Data Service in such a way to allow this behaviour - I know how I could do it using ASMX web service, something like [Code]....

2. If I am to use WCF Data Services, how is serialization handled (if at all) - again I know how to do something in ASMX web services

3. Again, If I am to use WCF, how do I add Security and only allow my applications to access the web service - for obvious reasons

4. Would it be possible / logical to also include the Business Logic Layer into the web service?

Flush Separate Castle ActiveRecord Transaction And Refresh Object In Another Transaction

Jun 15, 2010

I've got all of my ASP.NET requests wrapped in a Session and a Transaction that gets commited only at the very end of the request. At some point during execution of the request, I would like to insert an object and make it visible to other potential threads - i.e. split the insertion into a new transaction, commit that transaction, and move on. The reason is that the request in question hits an API that then chain hits another one of my pages (near-synchronously) to let me know that it processed, and thus double submits a transaction record, because the original request had not yet finished, and thus not committed the transaction record.

So I've tried wrapping the insertion code with a new SessionScope, TransactionScope(TransactionMode.New), combination of both, flushing everything manually, etc. However, when I call Refresh on the object I'm still getting the old object state. Here's some code sample for what I'm seeing:

Post outsidePost = Post.Find(id); // status of this post is Status.Old
using (TransactionScope transaction = new TransactionScope(TransactionMode.New))
{
Post p = Post.Find(id);
p.Status = Status.New; // new status set here
p.Update();
SessionScope.Current.Flush();
transaction.Flush();
transaction.VoteCommit();
}
outsidePost.Refresh();
// refresh doesn't get the new status, status is still Status.Old

WCF / ASMX :: Web Service Latency / How To Measure The latency(response Round Trip Time) For a Web Service

Jun 17, 2010

I am writing a program to measure the latency(response round trip time) for a web service. I need to have this at client side.

My initial plan is to store the time at which request is sent and then calculate the difference in time when we recieve a response from the web service. Is this the correct way to measure latency of web service. This has some overhead because of storing time and all. How can this be done?

Another option is to attach a timestamp with the SOAP request. But the server should return the timestamp. This will not be possible in case of third party web services.

Architecture :: How To Handle An Excel Stream And The Http Response

Jan 27, 2011

I'm using .net 3.5 and am currently creating a web application used to generate a report through Aspose.CellsActually, the page is composed in a form where I get the configuration of the report I have to generate. The "generation" button is in an update panel. When I click on it, the "generation" button is hidden and a progress bar appears. When the excel file is generated, I save it in a memory stream and I send it back to the aspx page where I change the headers to allow the file's download.

if there is any config setting or any other way to force the response to be written all at once instead of it being written in multiple packets??The problem is I am using a response filter to edit anchor href's and the html parser (HtmlAgilityPack) strips out the malformed HTML when the framework writes to the response stream multiple times, so enforcing an all at once write would solve this headache.

Architecture :: Write A Response To Let Users Download A Big File From DB?

Mar 11, 2010

I am a newbie of handling memory.

in my web apps, files are stored as varbinary in sql server.

my goal is to make a response to let users to download the files.

if there is a file (500 MB) stored in one record in the sql server,

what is the best way to let users download it?

I found that , in code-behind, if the files are loaded as byte[] objects, it uses the memory.

for example, the datalength of a file in the database is 500 MB.

the byte[] for this file uses 500 MB memory. am I correct?

how about the filestream? if the file is loaded as a filestream object in code-behind.s

does it also take 500 MB memory?

Architecture :: XML Response Text As Entity Data Provider?

Nov 23, 2010

I'm writing an application that needs to map two different stores into different properties of the same entity. Basically, we have a CMS that exposes a file list PDF's via a web service. We have to send it an XML request and the response contains the data that needs to be parsed into each entity.
'm not sure how to modify the model in this way though. I can think of two ways to handle this,1. Create a new Schema that uses something like the System.Xml.Provider for each different request type/result set2. Write a partial class for the Entity and populate all the unmapped fields using serialized XML I'm actually unsure how to actually do either of the above, but if someone knows a good starting point or a better way to go about this please let me know. This is my first MVC project and so I'm not completely up to speed on all the concepts/best pracise.

MVC :: Response.WriteSubstitution Does Not Work?

Jan 21, 2011

I am trying to write out some dynamic contents on a cached page with Response.WriteSubstitution but it doesn't work. Besides, HttpRuntime.Close() is not clearing my output cache. I read the following thread on MS Connect and was quite shocked.

"Due to a change in how ASP.NET MVC 2 views are rendered certain functionality will no longer work...". It seems kind of foolish to remove this feature. Can anyone explain how I should use output caching in ASP.NET MVC if I can't have dynamic portions of a cached page?

Architecture :: Website That Work A Lot With The DB - The Best Way?

May 22, 2010

I'm in the middle-end of written a big website that work a lot with the db.
In every call a page runs 5-12 different queries.What I did was build an execute class that uses MySqlConnector API, which get string that represent the sql and the parameters and then just execute the query and return DataTable. In addition to that I have a class that hold all the function that call the execute class functions. For example in the class I have getAllProducts, getOldestProducts etc... and in each and every one of them theres sql statements.

Recently I watch the LINQ video series(How Do I with LINQ - on this site) and it looked good.As I sees it my way is very good because it just open connection execute the sql get the result and close the connection.The question is what is the best performance wise way to build this site? Is it my way that I use all along? Is it using LINQ? Or working with DataSet/TypedDataSet is the preferred way?

Web Forms :: IIS7 Response.OutputStream Does Not Work In IE7?

Apr 2, 2010

The application is hosted in Windows Server 2008 with IIS7.

I have a button that calls a new webpage (asp.net page, ext .aspx) that contains

Response.OutputStream.Write(blahblahblah) which then should prompt a download box to allow user to save an image.

Now the page basically creates a stream and then is supposed to output the stream to the user using Response.Outputstream.Write.

Then the user is supposed to be prompted to open or save the document. This works fine in Firefox but it does not work with IE7 or 8

Also this exact same code works with IIS6 on a Windows 2003 server.

So the only differences is the IIS6 and Windows 2003 Server to IIS7 and Windows 2008 Server.

And what happens is when I clicked the button, the page did pop up but disappear 1-2 seconds later without
prompting the download box to the user.

Here is the code that launches for Reference

//e.g file = 123424_43535.jpeg
FileInfo myFile = new FileInfo(Server.MapPath("mapImage/") + file;
using(var fs = myFile.Open(FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read))
{
byte[] buffer;
int read;
buffer = new byte[(int)fs.Length];
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" + file);
Response.ContentType = "application/x-force-download";
Response.AddHeader("Connection", "Keep-Alive");
Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", fs.Length.ToString());
while((read = fs.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0)
{
this.Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, read);
}
}
Response.End();

I have tried to replace Response.AddHeader with Response.AppendHeader, however the result is still the same. Also, I have tried to replace the Response.ContentType with application/octet-stream and image/jpeg, I also faced the same result.

Is there any setting/modification on server/code that I need to look on?

Response.Redirect Does Not Work For Multiple Values

Jan 6, 2011

I am trying to redirect to a page and send two values.

Now the second value is the value of a text box and If I type something one character or anything without space character then the redirect works but If I type two strings for second value or anything with a space then the redirected page hangs and shows a blank page. I am using-

Response.Redirect("Changes.aspx?id="+CustomerId+"&Req="+txtRequest.Text);

If I use value id= anything applicable and Req="A" then it works

but If I use value id= anything applicable and Req="A(space)B" then the next page hangs with a blank page.
