Calling Multiple Web Services Asynchronously From A Web Page?

Jul 13, 2010

I make an asynchronous call from one web service to another web service deployed on different server? The scenario is that an ASP.NET webforms page will call a web service in an async manner. This particular web service will then make another async call to a second web service deployed on different web server. This this possible to achieve, and what additional steps or code would be necessary to make this happen?

Asynchronously Bind Multiple Repeaters On Page Load

Jun 11, 2012

I have four repeaters, that are all independent to each other. They all bind via web services on page load and then display the results.

There is a noticeable delay however and I would like to know how to achieve the following if possible.

On page load I want to begin asynchronously binding the repeaters so that as soon as the first one is bound, its result display and then the next starts binding.

I looked at update panels but from what I have read they do not have a page load trigger.

How To Execute Web Services Asynchronously In Server Side When Called By JQuery's .ajax

Mar 22, 2011

I have an ASP.NET (3.5) web page which calls a few web methods (SOAP based) using jQuery's .ajax method. The web methods implement 'ScriptMethod' attribute and return JSON data. The web service file (asmx) is local to the same project.

I noticed these web methods execute synchronously on the server which means they run sequentially and affect performance negatively, some methods are waiting, when some of them are slow.

I read this article and I am not sure if I understand that WebMethods which implement Scriptmethod can run synchronously only (they implement IHttpHandler not IHttpAsyncHandler).

If this is true, I might have to change the design. I am looking for other designs, maybe like using WCF, where the browser can call webmethods using JavaScript and the web methods run asynchronously on the server.

WCF / ASMX :: Calling A Web Service Method Asynchronously Does Not Work In Console Application

Sep 15, 2010

I have a web service that has a CreateReport method that generates a report based on the specified criteria.

When I call this method Synchronously using a Windows Application or Console Application, the call works fine and the report is created.

When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Windows Application the report is created.

When I call this method ASynchronously (CreateReportASync) using Console Application the web service does not even get the call.

I am using VS2005 and .Net Framework 2.0. So the proxy is automatically created with the Async methods. I am not really interested the result of the method call, so I do not add a Callback Delegate.

Multiple Master Pages For 1 Calling Page?

Dec 7, 2010

I have 2 master pages with same (href) links on top of the page. Now these links load on the same master page when clicked on (by requirement). The problem is both these master pages have same links, so basically the same page shall be loaded in the master page.Now what i need is when the person is on Master Page 1 and clicks on the link it should load in the same page. Whereas if the user is on Master Page 2 and clicks on the same link, i should be able to change the master page from 1 to 2 and load that in Master Page 2. Something like DirectCast.

Javascript - Calling Multiple JQuery Functions In Page?

Aug 16, 2010

I have a page with three HTML labels and their corresponding ASP.NET gridviews contained within divs. Now while learning jQuery, I am trying to achieve two things:1. Change the css class of the lables upon mouse hover/out.2. Slide up/down the grid div upon clicking of the labels.It looks to be working as expected, but I wish to know if I am doing it the right way.My complete jQuery code is:

$(function ColorChange(ID) {
$("#" + ID).toggleClass("gridLabel");
$(function ShowHide(GID) {
$('#' + GID).slideToggle('slow');

And I am calling these function from onmouseover, onmouseout and onclick events of the label controls passing in the label ID as parameter. As an example:

<label id="lblWebComp" class="gridLabelDefault" onmouseover="ColorChange('lblWebComp')"
onmouseout="ColorChange('lblWebComp')" onclick="ShowHide('gvDivWC')">
Web Components

Kindly let me know if this is the best way to achieve these effects? Don't I have to right the document ready function in the jQuery code?

How To Load An GridView From Multiple Sources Asynchronously

Jan 1, 2010

Here is the situation. I need to hit ~50 servers and grab some data from a file. I then want to display a few rows for each in an ASP.NET GridView control.

I tried doing this with Threads/ThreadPool and successfully gather all the data in session.

What I'd like to do, and what I am having a hard time figuring out, is update the grid for the user after each server is done loading.

If I put the databinding code in the thread, it will only display whatever has loaded by the time the response is sent back to the client. If I take it out of the thread, I'd have to wait until all threads were done to send the response, and that doesn't do what I want.

I seeing some stuff about Asynchronous Client Callbacks, but I'm not sure if that's what I need to be using. I have no idea how to manipulate a GridView from Javascript.

C# - Server Control Library Calling Its Own Services?

Nov 18, 2010

I am posting this as a part of my effort in searching the best possible design solution for my requirement. I am currently working on a complex server control(not user control) in which is going to be rendered into html elements on the client side.And those html elements needs to do a ajax call backs to the server using js/jquery. Here is the problem. As this is a serverside control and can be added into any application/domain. I dont want to have those callback services hosted separately. Is there any way that I can host those server callback services in the same library? If so, how can I access them from the client side?

How To Authenticate A Windows Mobile Client Calling Web Services In Web App

Mar 21, 2010

I have a fairly complex business application written in ASP.NET that is deployed on a hosted server. The site uses Forms Authentication, and there are about a dozen different roles defined. Employees and customers are both users of the application.

Now I have the requirement to develop a Windows Mobile client for the application that allows a very specialized set of tasks to be performed from a device, as opposed to a browser on a laptop. The client wants to increase productivity with this measure. Only employees will use this application.

I feel that it would make sense to re-use the security infrastructure that is already in place. The client does not need offline capability.

My thought is to deploy a set of web services to a folder of the existing site that only the new role "web service" has access to, and to use Forms Authentication (from a Windows Mobile 5/.Net 3.5 client).

I did see this question and I am aware of the limitations that Forms Authentication poses. Since security is not my primary motivator (I use SSL and can restrict access by IP address), but rather using existing user accounts and roles, my decision tree is somewhat different as well.

Web Services - Having An Ambiguous Type Error When Calling A WebMethod On .NET Web Application?

Mar 2, 2011

The message sent to browser is as follows:

The type My.API.Class is ambiguous: it could come from assembly '[on Temporary ASP.NET Files]' or from assembly '[on bin folder]'

The problem occurs when debugging a Web App, speciically when making a request to a WebMethod of a WebService.The project compiles just right. It generates My.Website.dll on bin folder and if I publish the Web Application. It works fine.The asmx file is on the root of the application. The CodeBehind file is on App_Code and its marked to be compiled to generate My.Website.dll.The way this person exposes its problem is somehow similar but I get starting to be lost when he talks about a proxy class and shared dlls I don't use.

Will Transactionscope Work Over Multiple Calls To Different Services

I have a block of code which calls two services, MessageService and UserService. These both in term call their appropriate repositories and make the amendments to the db. Each repository declares it's own instance of the repository so I'm thinking this will escalate the following code to DTC . The code is called from the AccountService, is this going to work at this level? And also is it bad practise to declare the DataContext at the top of every repository or should I pass the object around somehow?

C# - Querying Multiple Databases Using Distributed Web Services?

Feb 5, 2011

I have a quick question about best practices and especially expected performance for the following scenario:

If I want to query data from multiple servers that contain schematically identital sql databases, would having each server provide a web method that a single client application can consume be an appropriate (and relatively fast) solution?

The data just needs to be consolidated on the client end, where several web methods would have to be consumed serially (or in parallel?) to provide the data to the client. Each server would also be implementing Entity Framework as an ORM.

Performance is my main concern here, would it turn out excessively slow as we start to scale up to more and more servers?
