Data Controls :: Every Post Back In Form Is Taking Long Time When Several Update Panels Used

Nov 22, 2015

I have a big form in which i have almost 10 update panels. some are having updatemode = conditional and others are always. Now by default when that page is opened i only show one dropdownlist.When that project dropdownlist (from which i populate the rest of the elements in my page) value is changed by user it takes long time to load the other elements. Also the other gridview which is also surrounded by update panel and mode in conditional takes long time to show edititemtemplate controls in edit mode.

I am unable to trace the reason behing delay. Few days ago it was working fine and fast but now it is slow.

Forms Data Controls :: Ajax In Asp 1.1 / Taking Too Much Refresh And Taking Long Time?

Jan 13, 2010

I am making some application in asp.net 1.1 in that I am displaying data in datagrid from database. In data grid first column is of check box and radio button and in the last column we have text box now thing is that when i click on check box crosponding textbox we fill some figure and at the end we press calculate button to get total. After getting total we have to press continue button to go next step

But suppose if some body remove that check the we should press calculate button or chnage some figure in the text box then we should press calculate button again to recalculate. for that i kept autopost back on check box oncheckedchanged event and text box ontextchanged event and hide continue button so user will click calcutae button abd then continue button will re-apper

Problem it that it taking too much refresh and taking long time. So was lloking for some ajax method to use in my application.

DataSource Controls :: Taking Long Time To Import Data From Csv To Sql Server 2005?

Feb 20, 2010

I have an application which imports data from csv to sql server 2005. It is taking long time to import data from csv to sql server 2005. it has a timer. on tick of timer, I am checking if current rown in csv exists in database. If it exists, It is not added to sql server otherwise, It is added that row to sql server 2005. Also, In page load, It checks on each tick, whether user is logged in or not. it adds value to log file that user is logged in. How can I optimize this ?

MVC - Images Taking A Long Time To Load?

Oct 4, 2010

I have tested my pages in Firefox & IE and looking at Firebug in Firefox for some reason some images are taking a long time to load. They are not very big in comparison to the ones which are loading quicker.

Attached is a screenshot of Firebug.

I especially notice it in IE with the progress bar at the bottom of the page, it just sits there saying loading image...

Could it be the path or something which is http://localhost:49211/Content/_layout/images/bg-footer.png for example

C# - Hosts File Edit Taking A Long Time To Work?

Aug 5, 2010

Whenever I add an entry to the Hosts file on Windows, it takes a long time for the change to take place? I have tested using Firefox and IE and it seems to take around 5 minutes on both of them before the new IP/Domain entry on Hosts is recognised.

Is there anything I can do to overcome this? Perhaps "refreshing" the cache in some way? ipconfig /flushdns doesn't work.

Configuration :: Visual Studio Publish Taking A Long Time

Mar 24, 2010

When I Publish my website it takes around an hour and a half. This is publishing to a directory on my local machine, it is not FTP'ing to a remote server. The build seems to take about an hour (when I build without publishing it is noticeably slow, but 5 minutes slow, not an hour), then the publish seems to take a further half an hour.

what could be causing this and how I can improve this? This obviously causes issues when I make a change (I'm constantly updating the site) as I need to wait for an hour an a half. I'm considering not precompiling the site now and simply uploading the .aspx and .cs files direct to the server as this is unmanageable for me.

Visual Studio 2010 - Upgrade Seems To Be Taking A Very Long Time To Start?

Oct 13, 2010

At work I'm tryhing to upgrade an ASP.NET 2.0 app (which we wrote using VB.NET 2005) to ASP.NET 4.0. I had a few problems during the upgrade, but eventually worked them all out. At the end of the day I decided to give it a quick compile and see if I'd get the start page, so I hit F5 in VS 2010. I left it that way, and man was it acting weird. VS 2010 wasn't responding to anything. If I hovered the mouse over VS 2010's minimize or close buttons, in the upper right corner, then those buttons were flashing very rapidly. I'm not sure what was going on. After waiting 15 minutes to see if it would come up, I decided to try clicking on the close button. Nothing happened. Eventually, I had to leave (I take public transit, and I have to leave when the bus comes)But what I want to know is this, is this pretty standard behavior? Does it normally take this long to do this? This website is of modest size (<100 pages).

(Later) When I came into work today, 8 hours later, VS 2010 was still doing whatever the heck it was doing, but basically it wasn't responding to anything.

Forms Data Controls :: Update Form Won't Post DropDownList Values

Apr 19, 2010

See what happens when you answer my questions! I come back! No good deed goes unpunished. I've built an Update form where my visitor can update data in dbase. I have a formview with several dropdown lists; none of which will update the table (all the textboxes, checkboxes and even Ajax enabled calendar work just fine). In the form below, visitor selects a CareerCluster from the ddl. Upon postback, the next ddl (pathwayListBox) populates with related data using the CareerCluster.selectedvalue in a query. At the same time, tsaOrgsDropDownList is also populated based upon the first ddl (CareerCluster).

When user selects from the tsaOrgsDropDownList the final ddl (tsaDropDownList) is populated. All this various selecting/populating works just fine on the form. The problem is: Nothing is updated to the table upon clicking the Update button. All other form fields do post as their supposed to except, I have other ddls on the page that are not related to the above series and they won't post either. My thought is that somehow, this is related to the postbacking going on. That posting back is overwriting the selectedValues with null or something.

AJAX :: How To Do Update Panel And Dynamic Controls And Post Back

Sep 29, 2010

I have a page that is mostly dynamically built in the page load of my VB.net code behind page.

The issue is that I made a change to the page and added a button that redirects to a secondary page. When the button is clicked there is a very noticeable lag until the button click event fires because the page is being rebuilt every time.

I had not wrapped the code in the load event in the If not ispostback.... because I have dynamic controls that the user interacts with and I need the page to be rebuilt when the user clicks them.

The dynamic controls are clickable table cells. I did some looking and I found that the RegisterPostBackControl. I thought this would be perfect but, it does not although I maybe using it incorrectly.

Here is the code flow.

asp.net with vb. I want to return the page with all input controls with the data just as the user entered them before submitting. the error messages are labels that were blank when the page is first loaded. preferably the page returns focused to the topmost error error message. if that can't be done I would populate some label at the top of the page with something to the effect that 'errors were found, scroll down to see the errors'

Forms Data Controls :: Trying To Update A Single Table Using Multiple Tab Panels - Incomplete Update?

Sep 20, 2010

I've got a single table, with project information and schedule information. To make the data easier to present, I created a tab control with two panels (a detailsview in each). The first tab is for project info, the second tab is for schedule info (again, all fields in the same table). The problem is, if i change info in both tabs, and then hit the update button, only the data from one tab is added to the table. I think this problem is simple to fix, and boils down to the way I have the page organized, but I can't quite figure it out.

I've boiled my code down to the following conceptualized structure:

[code]....

When you click the update button, you return to the listview, but with only the information from your current tab saved. How can I get it to update from both detailsviews?

C# - Stop From Re-appending Querystrings On Form Post Back?

Feb 11, 2011

I am developing a simple rating system for my employer's profile based web-app. Here is my problem:

The actual page is domain.com/review.aspx?user=username, but I use the url-rewrite module in IIS to use domain.com/username/review The page contains a repeater control that displays reviews for that username, as well as a form for people to create new reviewsWhen the form is submitted, asp.net re-appends the (hidden) querystring to the url on postback.The post-back url is now domian.com/username/review?user=username&review, causing the page to break if refreshed.

Is there any way to keep asp.net from re-appending the querystrings that are actually already present, but re-written with IIS

Live link <- submit a review, and then refresh the page (edit) by clicking in the address bar! Beautiful yellow error message.

EDIT

C# code:

protected void submitReview(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
try
{
int starRating = txtStarRating.Text == "" ? 0 : Int32.Parse(txtStarRating.Text);
testimonials.addNew(Int32.Parse(txtHiddenUid.Text), reviewContent.Text, reviewerName.Text, true, starRating);

Web Form And Ajax Data Lost On Post Back - Finding Possible Cause / Ajax Or Changing Visible Property

Sep 15, 2010

I have two Repeater controls, each hosted in a user control. Both user controls are contained in the same aspx page. Only one User Control is visible at any one time. The repeaters are comprised of checkboxes, and text boxes for user input.

The aspx page is configured with an Ajax ScriptManager; and contains several Ajax UpdatePanels. These UpdatePanels result in partial page post backs when text is changed in a textbox control in controls on the aspx page (this is not the behaviour for the Repeaters in the User Controls). Through use of several AsyncPostBackTriggers, various controls contained in the other UpdatePanels on the page have their content refreshed in response to the partial page post backs they are configured be notified about.

Depending on a radio button group selection, I set the visible property to true or false - as appropriate for the User control containing a repeater control. The Repeater control is then populated with data using databinding. All of this works.

However, when the Submit button is clicked, the Repeater control contains no data.

Given that I am not dynamically adding the Controls containing the Repeater controls (but using Visible true / false). I would have thought that the State of the fields and the data in the visible control would be preserved during the post back.

The User Controls are contained within the UpdatePanel that contains the Submit Button.

I have explicitly Enabled View state without any effect.

Am I correct in assuming that I should not have to do any explicit handling of data changes the user makes (via client side script and manipulation of an Data Structure Representing the Repeater Data); and the View State should maintain the data I need to access on the server when submitted?

I do not believe that it is the User Control visible state changes that are causing the issue because when the page is initially loaded on of the User controls is populated with dummy rows (so it displays).

I am suspicious that because the visible state of the controls is changed during partial page post back, that the Page View State ends up with no knowledge of the User Control and therefore cannot track its data (or changes).

C#:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
if (!this.IsPostBack) {
BindGrid();
} }
protected void BindGrid() {
string query = "SELECT * FROM Table";

[Code] ....

It is working fine except that the Gridview paging is taking some time(15-20 seconds) to go to next page.

C# - Using A Timer Post Back, Which Controller To Use That Doesn't Post Back To Server?

Jul 14, 2010

Being new to ASP.NET I have run into trouble building my own Whack-a-mole program. I think my problem comes from using Buttons, which by themselves send post backs to the server, making the software unusable. The looks are in place, making new buttons show up in the grid, in different places by random. However, when a button is pushed - the score doesn't change (which I feel is strange).

Not so strange is that the Button doesn't work since it sends post back to the server - reloading the UpdatePanel. I think I should use a different controller like the CheckBox and style it hard using CSS (which isn't a problem). Is this the correct way to go, or should I make use of JavaScript AJAX instead?

Note to self: This technique shouldn't be used in a public application since it put too much unwanted pressure on the web server.
