I'm using vwd 2008 express
I need to display a single field from an sqlserver table, do I need to use sqlDataSource ect. or is there a simpler way (like msaccess's LookUp) for single values.
I want use select * from sample (tablename) ,which returns only those columns from sample table which does not have xml data type.
note : sample table contains some columns which have xml data type .
I want to issue an INSERT command for an SQL Server table using DataAdapter without first issuing a SELECT command. Could anybody send me lines of code to handle this? Also how do i manage INSERT into selective table columns (I have 10 columns but i only want to update 2 of them)?

again am trying the same above query ,now am getting the following error:

But when running the page i get:
ObjectDataSource 'dsDiensten' could not find a non-generic method 'GetList' that has no parameters.
Can the select command of a SqlDataSource be given by code in the code behind file. Also by calling the SqlDataSource.Select can the select statement be executed?

View 6 RepliesI attempted to change a table columns data type and in the process caused a lot of issues. I had a date column in one of my tables and stupidly changed it from varchar to date. When I tried to run queries on it I keep getting the 'cant find column 3 error'. Now that tables structure is :

So column 4 is actually the date column. All other queries work for this table. I then tried to change it back and then copied all data to a new table and now I am using the new table and converting the dates as needed but I am still getting the error.

I've been struggling all day trying to make this work, but I'm just not having any luck. I have 2 tables, 1 is a lookup table and the other is a user table. The lookup table stores the State values in text form, where the user table stores the ID of the State for the particular user. I'm trying to create a editable grid view that allows the user to update their State based on values in the lookup table. I've created an Edit Template with a drop down for the State field. When the user clicks on "Edit" in the GridView I need to be able to reference the SelectedValue of the State and write the index of the State to my user profile table. I'm using two different data sources for this since the GridView needs to display each record from the users table and the Edit Template needs to display only values from the Lookup table. I've included my code below.

I have to retreive all records from a table except 1 record. For example: I give example from default database in SQL ie "master" In "master" DB we have "spt_values" table. Now if I want to retreive all records from spt_values table except 1-1 record of type = A and type = B. To retreive all records its a simple query "Select * from spt_values where type in ('A','B')" -- this will returns 16 records. Now I want to retreive all record except 1-1 record left in each type, so it will return 14 records in result.
