DataSource Controls :: Merge Two Sets Of Data From A SqlDataAdapter And An OleDataAdapter And Then Populate A Gridview On A Button Click?

Jun 4, 2010

trying to merge two sets of data from a SqlDataAdapter and an OleDataAdapter and then populate a gridview on a button click. If I run just the SqldataAdapter on its own the grid populates as expected. This also applies to the OleDataAdapter. The problem arises when I try to merge the two. I get an empty table, hence dt3 is not populating. The code i'm using is below.Does anyone know why this doesn't work?

Data Controls :: Populate Nested GridView Dynamically On Click Of Button

May 3, 2013

I followed the article Nested GridView Example in ASP.Net using C# and VB.Net ..... It is a great article and very simple to follow. I easily modified it to suit my needs and added several more levels to the nested GridView.I am a Programmer and I have never used or JQuery before.

The data I am using is very large and with the "OnRowDataBound" events, the Page is Pre loading all the data into the gridviews and the Plus/Minus images are just displaying/hiding the nested gridviews. The question is "How to make the nested gridviews populate dynamically?" I want to have the nested gridviews to databind when the plus image is clicked.

I added the below code to the Plus image click Function to execute the server-side "BindData" Function. however I don't know enough about ASP or Jquery to get the GridViewRowData to send to the server-side function.

$("[src*=plus]").live("click", function () {
$.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "Main.aspx/BindData", data: '{}', contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", error: function(err) { alert("err");}, success: function (msg) { // Do something interesting here. alert("ok") } }); $(this).closest("tr").after("<tr><td></td><td colspan = '999' width = '100%'>" + $(this).next().html() + "</td></tr>") $(this).attr("src", "images/minus.png"); });
Server Side "BindData"

Web Forms :: Write URL / Button Click Event That Sets Eventtarget Value?

Apr 20, 2010

I'm working with a third party product and my boss wants to be able to link directly to a specific screen in this product from our company intranet. When I drilled all of the way down to the screen in this product, I see that it is an ASP.Net application and the particular screen is reached via a link that triggers a javascript function. I can see the anchor tags for this link and a link to a different screen and I can see the javascript function. Both screens as well as the initial screen are all part of the same content form. It is pretty clear that this screen is modified based on which link is clicked but it isn't using query string values so it must be using button click events to modify what shows on the screen. My question is; with what I can see of the 2 links and the javascript function, is there a way to send a postback with that specific click event from a different site to that specific ASP.Net form so it would pull up the correct screen? Here are the javascript function and anchor tags:

function __doPostBack(eventTarget, eventArgument) {
if (!theForm.onsubmit || (theForm.onsubmit() != false)) {
theForm.__EVENTTARGET.value = eventTarget;
theForm.__EVENTARGUMENT.value = eventArgument;
<a id="ctl00_popular1_pnlLeftPopular_dlsPopular_ctl00_lnkActivity" href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$popular1$pnlLeftPopular$dlsPopular$ctl00$lnkActivity','')">IT Request for Change (RFC)</a>
<a id="ctl00_popular1_pnlLeftPopular_dlsPopular_ctl01_lnkActivity" href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$popular1$pnlLeftPopular$dlsPopular$ctl01$lnkActivity','')">VOSA</a>

Forms Data Controls :: Populate Label Fields From Gridview Hyperlink Click , And Get The Correct Row In Dataset?

Mar 3, 2011

My problem is as follows:I have a gridview that get populated from a stored procedure in my MS SQL database. This gridview has a column that is a link field that I click to navigate to a new page that should display the correct info in the relevant labels.So the gridview returns say five diffrent rows of companies (and this work great by the way) and lets say that the 'company name' is the link field column that I meantioned earlier. So now I the company name and this navigates me to the Company.Aspx page, which so far is all working well.What I cant seem to get right is how to pas the correct row of the the passed dataset to display in the correct label fields, here is a brief snippet of what I mean:

if (Session["objDataSet"] != null)
DataSet dsCurrent = (DataSet)Session["objDataSet"];

I have a textbox1, button1 and a GridView1.

I have configured a datasource for gridview1 to execute a Stored Procedure on a SQL Server Database passing a parameter with the value from textbox1.

My question is, how do I code the button1 Click Event to populate the GridView1?

GridView1 already has the datasource configured, I just need to trigger it via the button1 Click Event.

DataSource Controls :: SQLDataAdapter Postback / Create A Class, DataCommon, To Contain All SQL Data Manipulation Functions?

Apr 22, 2010

I'm trying to create a class, DataCommon, to contain all my SQL Data manipulation functions. I've created a Subroutine called Init that initializes a SQLDataAdapter:

From my other classes I am creating an instance of DataCommon, calling Init, and calling another subroutine in DataCommon that pulls data from SQL and loads the data into my dataset. This part is working great -- no problems at all. I'm loading three different Datatables in the Dataset with no issues.

At this point, I'll perform my various manipulations on the datatables -- add/delete/modify rows -- again with no problems. All of this is creating postbacks...and this is where my problem begins. After I've done all my manipulations to the data and am ready to update my SQL tables, I have to re-initialize my SQLDataAdapter. I thought I could do something like:

But I get the error: Exception inserting Class. Thread was being aborted.

In my initial data load from SQL, each datatable is getting loaded from a single SQL table, so I was hoping to use the autogenerated Update/Insert/Delete statements by the SQLDataAdapter. As a test, as soon as I filled the dataset initially, I added a new row to one of the datatables and used the SQLDataAdapter.Update() method before a postback occurred, and it worked perfectly.

So, with all that being said, I guess my question is, how do I reconnect the table mappings between my SQLDataAdapter and dataset to autogenerate the updates after a postback occurs? I've tried researching this, but I get confused after reading about FillSchema vs TableMappings vs everything else I've read about.

DataSource Controls :: Multiple Result Sets Vs Multiple Data Readers?

Jun 4, 2010

Would it be better to have a sp return multiple result sets and use NextResult() or have subsequent call to dr.execute.... () and hadle one result at a time?

To me using nextResult() on a multiresult datareader would be cleaner and easier - but it does not seem to be very "atomized". I guess I am wondering can the cost of executing multiple commands be neglected? Seems like executing multiple commands and receiving a single result set would also be easier to read/test/understand.
