trying to get something to work, which I think should be extremely easy.
I'm grabbing a value from my database with a repeater, and want to assign the value to a variable that I can parse and then send into javascript. 'videofile' is the variable from the database, and I want to assign the value to 'vidfile', parse it, and then inject into javascript:
<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater3" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource11">

I can post code if needs be but it's rather long. I'm looking for typical causes of this error + will make note for future reference!

For example, let's say I have a HyperLink:
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="Foo" NavigateUrl="foo.aspx" />
How can I set the NavigateUrl on the server side, without having to go the code-behind?
This doesn't work of course:
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="Foo" NavigateUrl="<%= urlString %>" />
(where urlString might be a string I created earlier in the page)And this doesn't work because the HyperLink is not within a data bound control:
<asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="Foo" NavigateUrl='<%# urlString %>' />
I guess I could just use a standard anchor element:
<a href="<%= urlString %>">Foo</a>
But I'd rather not mix up HTML and ASP.NET controls, and it would be handy to be able to do this for other controls.

I have created an ASP page to display records for auditor review and response. The page consists of two repeaters that display 5 rows from a database at a time. for each row displayed, a RadioButtonList, containing two buttons is attached. If the second button is selected, an input text box is displayed to allow auditor comments.
My situation is that I cannot find a way to identify which row is being selected? When I select the Button that should enable the text box, I'm receiving the following error:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
I'm just starting out in ASP coding and would like to know what I'm not doing right?

I have a composite control inside a repeater. I am trying to set the controls public properties inline like so (this is a simplified example):
<uc1:Control runat="server" ID="id" Value='<%# Eval("value") %>'>
When I place the repeater inside a user control INSIDE ANOTHER user control and onto the page this works - the property is correctly set, if I inspect it inside the EnsureChildControls() method of the custom control the composite control's Value propertyis set to Eval("value") as intended.

I'm trying to bind custom object to details view.
The problem is that enum property fields are not show.
Is there any way to show enum property fields in details view ?
I put some example code below (I do not specify any rows mappings, they are generated dynamically because different kind of objects are bound to details view):

I've posted the same question in the Object Data Source forum. This is a link to it http://forums.asp.net/t/1554083.aspx. Maybe I should've posted here to begin with. There seemed to be some overlap so I wasn't sure which was the best on to post the question in.
I'm trying to get a better understanding of how I could've designed my app so that the Object Data Source could work with the properties of my business objects. Please read the other post to see how it's currently being done. Sorry for the link to the other page. I didn't want to post a bunch of duplicate information. I would love to get some suggestions for alternative ways of doing this.

I have some code like this. But imagine that there are hundreds of lines like this all duplicated across multiple functions.
MyClass.prop1 = doingsomething("test1");
MyClass.prop2 = doingsomething("test55");
I want to reuse my code... how can I do it?
I want to do something like this:
foreach(ClassInfo)
{
dosomethingAssignment(ClassInfo.propertiesToAssign[i], ClassInfoStringIPassedToFunctionInFirstExample[i]);
}
Maybe this isn't the way to do this in C#, but what is the best way to reuse my code?

I have a need to add a new report to my page, the differnent parts of the page are all using a objectdatasource to populate the data. The new report because of all the data being returned i have started to use a repeater and a table in the ItemTemplate. Just binding the objectdatasource to the repeater works fine, but returns all the records and causes the page to be very long. I found this link for adding paging to repeater, but its setup different than what i have
[URL]
Is there any way to use what i have already and add paging to the repeater?

i am developing a sharepoint webpart. In this webpart i need to use a repeater control. The problem is, i can only use codebehind for creating and using the control. So i have some questions:
1. After creating the repeater control in codebehind, how to create some templates (itemtemplate, footertemplate, etc.) and use it?
2. How to bind a object collection to a repeater control?

I have a button on a page with a Repeater and an ObjectDataSource. To give credit where credit is due, the Repeater's paging functionality is courtesy of ScottGu. (However, I'm using ASP.NET 4.0 and SQL Server 2008, as opposed to ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005.)
Anyway, in the button's click event, I need to access the Text property of a Label that's inside the Repeater because it's used as an input parameter in a stored procedure. I'm getting a NullReferenceException when trying to access the Label's Text property. I have researched this error and have tried a few different solutions (involving FindControl and the Repeater's ItemDataBound event), but I haven't been able to get it to work. The code is below.

I am facing a very strange issue. I get an error Object Reference Not set to instance of object on the server while the code runs fine on my dev machine. The strange part is the line number where the code is throwing error (as appears in the Stack trace)
DemoUser demoUser = new DemoUser();
if (!Request.QueryString.AllKeys.Contains("name"))
{
playerName = usr.NinjaName;
demoUser.Email = usr.UserEmail;
demoUser.UserPicture = usr.UserPicture;
}
else
{
playerName = Request.QueryString["name"];
demoUser.Email = String.Empty;
demoUser.UserPicture = "http://graph.facebook.com/1/picture";
}
demoUser.EntryDateTime = DateTime.Now;
demoUser.Name = playerName;
Session["DemoUser"] = demoUser;
imgPlayer.ImageUrl = demoUser.UserPicture; // This is throwing error.
If that line is throwing error then the demoUser object is getting lost when I assign it to Session. Is that right?

I have a Public Sub listed in a class file that I am using to store Select, Update,etc...methods for an Object Datasource. When I attempt to configure the datasource, the Class appears as a business object, but the sub within the class is not available for method selection. (It does not appear in drop down list in wizard.)
The sub exists, so where is a good place for me to start looking for a fix? I have part of the class file listed below:

I thought I had this all figured out, in fact the following is similar to another page I have that works, but dinged if I can see what is wrong with this.I have a FormView with the InsertItem Template as the default. I have a label "UserId" that is assigned the logged on user's userid on page load with:
LblUserID.Text = Membership.GetUser.ProviderUserKey.ToString , which I am certain works.
There is a textbox "User_IDTextbox" within the InsertItem Template of a FormView, and I am trying to write the UserID into that text box using this VB code in a subroutine:
Dim TxtBxUserIDParent As TextBox = DirectCast(FVAddTradeResort.FindControl("User_IDTextbox"), TextBox)
TxtBxUserIDParent.Text = LblUserID.Text
This does not result in populating the textbox within the InsertItem Template of the Formview template with the UserID

I now can reference a field in the formview, but, assigning it a value is fighting me.
I want to assign the UserName field in the formview with the login name from the Master (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name).
(A) I tried the likes of: FormView1.FindControl("UserName").DefaultValue = username but of course that doesn't work.
(B) Alternatively, I tried to edit the SQL so that I passed it the HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name but didn't have any luck.
InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [TechUserName] ([CertName], [CertLevel], [CertLast], [CertFreq], [CertDue]) VALUES (@temp1, @CertLevel, @CertLast, @CertFreq, @CertDue)"
temp1.text=(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name)

I have a Datalist and when a button is clicked I would like to send the values of the fields to a new page to fill some text boxes. What is the best way to do this. I had thought that since the DataList had itemtemplates that were labels I could reference them like regular labels ( str = Label1.text ). That isn't working.I was just going to send the values through a query string. Which I have an example of that, unless there is a better way.
