Forms Data Controls :: Layout Of Edit And Insert Templates?
Dec 23, 2010
I would like to change the layout of the edit and insert templates to show multiple columns (instead of the default 1), and make the required fields show in the first column. Please point me in the direction I need to go.
I am using a formview on main web page and the Item template displays my data correctly but I get and error when I try and link to the edit or insert templates. This happens on our remote tesing server only.On my local machine running the page on the local server in VS 2010 everything works fine. But then doesn't it always work on your local machine.I might also mention that I am compiling for asp.net 4.0. Here is the stack trace :
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Login failed for user 'MYCORPABIGWEB01$'. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning()
i am using two tables for salary components like bonus, hra,ta,da.one is salary lookup table for viewing which components are chosen and according to this salary table is created dynamically.i want to view data fields of salary table in gridview and update thier value.
now problem is that how to create template field and edit template field for updating fields of salary table because field of the salary table changing every time as it is creating dynamically.
I have a listview set up in "flow" mode where the existing records are all on an extended page so you can scroll down to any record.
The InsertItem Template is in the first position, making it easy to insert a new record.
And one can scroll down the page to any record, click the edit button and update that record -- nice having everything on one scrollable page.
I am running into a problem with validations. I have validation controls restricting inputs for all the textboxes on the Insert Item template. They work fine. And on Item Inserted I am running a page validation:
Page.Validate() If Not Page.IsValid Then e.Cancel = True End If
which works fine also.
The problem occurs when I scroll down to an existing record, and go to edit it. I have all the same validation constraints on the textboxes for the EditItemTemplate as I have on the InsertItemTemplate. But I cannot successfully do a page validation on updating the record. The code I am using on update is:
Protected Sub LVRentals_ItemUpdating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListViewUpdateEventArgs) Handles LVRentals.ItemUpdating Page.Validate() If Not Page.IsValid Then e.Cancel = True End If End Sub
This results in a Cancel even if there are no validation errors on the InsertItemTemplate because the Page.Validate() seems to be causing the InsertItemTemplate to think its fields should be filled out also.
Here is the code for a typical entry of the InsertItem Template:
[code]....
All the controls in the Edit Item template are part of ValidationGroup "edit1" and those of the InsertItem Template are part of ValidationGroup "edit2"
How can I get around receiving validation errors on the InsertItem Template when I am trying to validate just the EditItemTemplate when both are present on the page?
I added a RequiredFieldValidator to my InsertItemTemplate, and it seems to be working fine. The problem I am having, however, is that now I cannot do anything else in the ListView (like edit or delete items) UNLESS the required field has a value. Is there some way I can manually do the validation when the user clicks the 'Insert' button on the InsertItemTemplate, or some other little trick I can perform so the user doesn't have to first type in a value just to delete something else in the list?
I need to display the data using listView. I want the data to be displayed like this:
Student Name: John
Exam Grade MidTerm1 A MidTerm2 B
I want each item to looke like that. For this, I created a 'Student' class which has the Name and Exams(A list of Exam class objects) Properties. And the Exam class has ExamName and Grade properties. how I should specify the ItemTemplate and LayoutTemplate for the ListView??
I have a ListView Which displays Customer, product, price, Quantity and comments from database. The User can either edit it or Insert new items. In Edit Item template and Insert item template, i need to add a image button next to the textbox, which when clicked, will display a pop up window with list of customers or products.I have been doing it with the normal aspx page with textboxes. I use click handler to pop up the windows.i'm not able to do with listview Please help to give a solution to it.How else can i add an image icon and click it and get the values back to the textboxes?i will post what i'm doing without listview first and then the part of the relavant code of Listview.
I got a problem about finding controls in Edit/Insert Itemtemplate inside a DetailsView. Here is the code.I put a Label (id= "Label6") to test whether the findcontrol method works or not. Unfortunately, I almost tried every means but still coudn't find it.
It sounds pretty simple, but I can't find a way to make it work. I have a FormView with a InsertTemplate where it inserts the current logged in user's UserId and content from a HTMLeditor, and a EditTemplate where it retreives the current logged in UserId and shows content from database in the HTMLeditor.
How can I get it to show EditTemplate if the userId exist in the table, and InsertTemplate if the UserId does not exist in the table?
I'm using an edittemplate to handle both editing and inserting for a Formview. In Insert mode, the Identity parameter is not needed (and cannot be used in the parameter list). In Edit mode, I need the bound value to know which record to update. So, what I tried to do is set the Text property in the OnDataBinding method.
[Code]....
The result is that the field is bound for Insert anyway, shows up as a parameter, and my insert statement fails (since this extra field messes up the field order of the parameters). Plus, it is always null in Insert mode by definition.
Is the OnDataBinding method too late to clear the property? If so, where can I do this, since PageLoad is too early (the template has not loaded yet and I cannot Findcontrol the field. Or is there a better way to handle all this?
I'm using a listview control to do a survey stuff. Everything is working perfect to present the data questions, to be answered text with the different type of controls radiobuttonlists, checkboxlists, dropdownlists, etc. The admin can modify, create, change questions, answers, etc. on the survey. When it's select, edit, or insert it's easy to find the control inside a listview. However, I'm wondering how to post user's answers back to DB. How to find controls inside the listview to grab the entered data/responses from there using let's say the submit button that is outside of the listview.I believe there should be a way to do it as otherwise why we put radiobuttonlist on a listview that somebody could click it and then we should be able to get that entries. Or I'm too optimistic on this control?
Lets say that i want to make a ADMIN page for articles.
1) I show all my articles on lines 2) Each article has an EDIT BUTTON and INSERT NEW button 3) When I click on the EDIT BUTTON, it opens a CUSTOM page where i can Edit my article. 4) When i click on the INSERT NEW BUTTON it opens the same CUSTOM page where i can Insert my article.
I was trying to do it with Gridview and Formsview.
How to insert images into database and how to retrive and bind images to gridview using ASP.NET . After displaying gridview data i want to edit data with Image also using ASP.NET with Database.
how to insert, update, delete row in gridview without saving in database ?suppose 1 textbox,1 button and 1 gridview .textbox and button outside of gridview.
I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.
I did the data access tutorials on this site. They used validation controls for the insert and the edit template fields. Each of these used their own validation summary control. The markup for them is below. Can I use the same validation summary control for both the insert and the edit validation controls? It seems redundant if i can set the Validation Group property to the same value then I would only need to use one validation summary.I don't know if this is allowed, or a good idea though.
I have a grid view with edit and save buttons when I click on edit it is letting me edit it and if I click on save it is lettingme save the data that I have edited.
The thing is after save is done it is showing the data in edit mode i.e <edit item template > mode I am still seeing the textboxes if I refresh the page then I am seeing it normally.
How can I stop the gridview to show edit mode after the save is done?
Can someone tell me if there is a technique to make an entire Column within an gridview (for example digits) editable (instaed of a single row) and update this column after changing values by press an Update-button?
A commercial solution is also o.k. with me, but, of course, a method to do it ourselve would be nice.
- I want to put multiple rows of a gridview into edit mode
- I have not found any easy method to accomplish this task. I found a way to programmatically put a gridview into edit mode, but in testing the code below it works for only 1 row at a time :
