Mar 3, 2010I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

Jan 6, 2010I keep getting a null reference when I try to access a listbox inside the EditItemTemplate of a formview. I check the mode before accessing the control (Formview1.CurrentMode) to make sure it is in edit mode and even set it manually to edit mode again! But formview1.findcontrol("blah") returns null. Formview1.EditItemTemplate does not have a FindControl method, not sure what else to try.

Oct 11, 2010i have a dropdown list in edit mode and read only mode. If users upload pictures, i want them to chose a category for the uploaded pics and display it in a gridview as below.(See Picture below). When i include "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" in edit and item template mode, i get this error "'PictureReadOnlyCategories' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value "
When i removed the "SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID")" from edit and item template, i get the result on the pic below(screenshot). If u can see the pic below the category is not selected, it just display the -- No Category -- even when i chose a category for the pic. I want when a pic is uploaded and i category chosen, to display on the gridview. The code for the error message is below:

Aug 25, 2010I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.

In the formview I have labels on edit , item and insert mode that I want to display all the time by getting those values from web config. I'm able to do that with no problem but when I change the modes between edit to insert or item view, I lose those label values until I hit the "select" twice from the Gridview, those values re-appear. In Edit Item template and Insert item template, i need to add a image button next to the textbox, which when clicked, will display a pop up window with list of customers or products.I have been doing it with the normal aspx page with textboxes. I use click handler to pop up the windows.i'm not able to do with listview Please help to give a solution to it.How else can i add an image icon and click it and get the values back to the textboxes?i will post what i'm doing without listview first and then the part of the relavant code of Listview.

Apr 16, 2010 I have a very complex page with 11 formviews, 1 dropdownlist, and 11 sqlDataSources.I have several issues
Page: This page controls my website users and their info. There are 2 different users with 3 different permissions; users - 1 Primary(account Creator), and the rest; Permissions - View, Edit(Manage), Create/Delete(Author)
Each Formview controls one column in the table.
1st. After Permissions are read, the add, delete buttons are to be disabled if no permission. If the User selected is the PrimaryUser the delete button is disabled. On Page load, the delete button is enabled even though the displayed user is the Primary, when you select another user, then select the primary again, the delete button is disabled, but when you select another user the delete button is still disabled. This should not be!
2nd. I then added a check to see if there was one or more locations, and if there is only one, then disable the edit button that allows a user to assign a user to a specific location. example: if there are 3 locations, you may assign a user to that office location, but if there is only one location, there is no need. I try to disable the edit button in formview, but I get "object reference not set to instance" which is total cr#$ because the button is there in the form.
3rd. When a page loads and all of your sqlDataSources have a Select controlParameter that is determined by a DropDownList, how is the initial record determined other than it is the first record?No matter how I work my code, these issues do not work, and it is very frustrating and holding my project back. I have been working on thes for a week.

Existing label INSIDE a DataList Item Template;

I need to change this label to a link that will cause C# code behind to:

and then call this:

I keep creating a DataList1_SelectedIndex_Changed event created when I double click the label or a link button. What is the code needed? I can see the Eval("CG_ID") value with the label but I don't know how to get it into tbxCG_ID.Text and fire the ListBox1 event.

When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

If im not doing it programatically, it will be just concatenating eval(). But how can create item template and bind it programmatically?
