Forms Data Controls :: Detailsview Row Update / Creating Dataset, Getting Data From Sql With Adaptor And Filling Into Dataset Object
Dec 21, 2010
I have a detailsview, template as follows:
Codebehind: creating dataset, getting data from sql with adaptor and filling into dataset object, then setting detailsview's datasource.
I add 2 button to above template to able to edit data at asp page, and added event handlers:buttons:
My question is, what to do inside the detailsview update event function to able to edit and update data. My method can be wrong too.
I have created a crystal report using dataset(.xsd) in asp.net,c#. It is working fine on local machines and my local machine IIS. on my local machine windows7 is installed. When I uploading it on on windows 8 IIS then data is not coming. Dataset is not filling on windows8 IIS.
I am using a DetailsView component (dvExpertsData) bound to a SqlDataSource (sqldsExpert) with a field that has a ItemTemplate (Field) with a checkbox component (chkbxAvailable) assigned to it. The idea is to have only this item updated out of all the data presented, so I do not have a requirement for editing an other data. sqldsExpert's SELECT query is a call to a stored procedure as is the UPDATE query.
I'm creating a form that sends a data set into an XY scatter plot. I have a report and reportviewer set up correctly, however my chart will not adjust the vertical position of the data points! They're tied to the table below (and have data labels), however when they get plotted they're always right on the x-axis.
when i add a dataset & using wizard trying to set the database using sql authentication.i get error login failed for user sa but if i use windows authentication i get connected.i checked the sql server it has mixed authentication but still i am not able to create the xsd & suppose i copy the the dataset mad eon other system to this system i am bale to aceess the data in the application but not able to configure or preview data.how do i rectify .
1. As per my knowledge we use dataadapters/dataset when we want to deal with the huge amount of column/data. Is there anyway that if I want to update one or two columns in a table without using dataadapter/dataset?
2. There is a way that without clicking a button we can get the data using objectdatasource, I mean to say that there is no vb.net data in the code behind then how to debug if there is not data in vb.net in code behind.
I'm using a DetailsView object to present a record from a database in table format. I'm actually using and ObjectSource object as the data source for the details view. In the object I am using as the source for the ObjectSource, I have paired properties that hold decimals. This is, I have a property called Year1 and another property called Year1Change. This for years 1 to six. The values from the Year1 properties are in a cell, whereas the change values are bound to texboxes. The code for the frontend is the following:
Now, as you can see in the tbYr2RtCh textbox, I have an OnTextChanged property to call an event handler. This is because I want to do two things when the text changes. The first one is to make the font in the textbox bold if the value it holds is different from the Year2 property. The second one is to change the text on tbYr2RevCh to adjust the revenue for the percentage increase in the rate. The problem I have is that I cannot access the object that is the source for the data and make those changes directly in the object, instead of having to update the database. I don't want to update the database until the client says so, but the changes should be calculated immediately. I thought about creating an method in the object that I could specify in the ObjectDataSource as the update method, but I'm still not sure how to go about it.
In my project I work with Entity Framework (LINQ to ENTITY). I only have ADO.NET Entity Data Model and a DAL (Data Access Layer). I also get the data due a WCFClientService. I have a gridview that needed to be exported in Excel.
FlexCel is a tool for generating Excel files based on a template. The only thing I see in demo's is that they work with DataSets.
Is there a way to convert the data in my gridview to a virtual DataSet?
I've written the following method to get the data:
What I am thinking is this? Is it possible for me to upload the data from an excel file to dataset of my application first, so that the user can view the data in a gridview to review it first, before the user strike the save button, to save it in the database. So, that in case there is a problem, the gridview will high light all the data with an error. So the user can easily pull out the excel and correct the data before saving it in the database.
My dataset table data is from multiple tables (showing on a gridview),How to update the database tables using batch udpate on clicking submit, if the data is from a signle table, no problem, but I am not sure how to handle if the datais from mulitiple tables? If I have related tables, do I need put them in differet tables in the dataset?
The DataSet is a disconnected data object. Once the DataSet has been filled, the connection can be closed and the DataSet's contents can still be examined and manipulated. What does manipulated mean ? If possible, then please give me example(s) for manipulated.
I am using oracle as back end. In database there is a table with 5000 records and 160 columns. i want to display all these records in gridview(in asp.net, c#). But it takes more than 10 minutes to fill the dataset.
I have a DetailsView (DV) control, an ObjectDataSource (ODS) control, and a button on a page. I have 2 classes in the App_Code directory (Customer and CustomerDAO). The DAO class provides static methods for the ODS control and simply hack values in (ie...no real database selects/updates). The Customer class has 2 properties (Id and Name) and a default constructor. The page takes an ID on the querystring and determines if the DV control is in insert or edit mode. If in edit mode, it sets the SelectParameter on the ODS (id field), calls ODS.Select(), and then calls DV.DataBind(). The existing (although fake) customer is loaded and display properly when this happens. I then change the name of the Customer in the DV and click the Button to save the new data.
Everything seems to be wired up correctly as the UpdateMethod that is specified in the ODS control is called and succeeds (even in my real example with my database). The problem is that the BoundFields in the DV control have not been updated with the new values and therefore the existing values are updated in the database and my changes are lost. I have handled the OnUpdating event of the ODS and the values are still the old values. I have also handled the OnItemUpdating event of the DV control and the NewValues IOrderedDictionary still has the old values in it also. In looking at the MSDN article for the UpdateMethod, it states the following:
Parameter Merging Parameters are added to the UpdateParameters collection from three sources:
From the data-bound control, at run time. From the UpdateParameters element, declaratively. From the Updating event handler, programmatically.
I am using the BoundField classes in my DV control so I would have assumed that the first bullet above would have handled the updating of values, but it doesn't appear to work with the way I am doing it. If I set the values explicitly in the OnUpdating event that is fired by the ODS control (the 3rd bullet) the right values are updated (again...even in my real database situation). It seems like my only issue is that the automatic binding that I expect from the DV control isn't working as I would expect it to. Here is the code that I have in my fake example:
I am new to asp.net and I'm trying to build my first web page, but when I try to fill a dataset at the page load event I get an error: object reference not set to instance of object. I've done this many times in vb.net. I can't figure out how to step through my code like I do when I'm creating a desktop app, so I don't know exactly where it's failing. I like to be able to see the values of things as it goes through the code.
Code: Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Label2.Visible = False Dim dsCheckExisting As New System.Data.DataSet() dsCheckExisting.Clear() Dim adLookup As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter adLookup.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand
I have a set of dataset with different column retrieved from DB. I need to present the datasets in one GridView (or other ListView etc...) without specifying the column_header. It should present automaticly since the GridView is bind to the DataSet.
In additional, I want this GridView to handle multiple rows edit and update the dataset, idealy, show data in textboxs in initially. How could I set the GridView to edit_model without hardcode column_header and textboxs in 'itemtemplate' or filed.
How could I achieve the bulk edit and update, so that I can assign 'mydataview1.table' to the dataset.
how do i copy required row in dataset to a new dataset. i have bind a xml into a dataset and i need to display say row 3 to 5 only so i do a for loop but i have encounter problem when trying to copy the rows to a new dataset.
do i have to write the xml to datatable and bind it to dataset and from there copy over ?
i have 103 column in database 1 column is id, 1 is user ,1 datetime, 100 button on webpage 1 textbox to input value , button1 clicked then value in textbox will insert into database with user:=user.identity.nam datetime=datetime.now colum4 will get value from textbox......button2 for colum2 and buton100 for column100, if i use dataset i need 100 datataset, some other way to solve it ??
private void FillDetails(string pId, out string Name, out string Address)
I have method called Filldetails(),This method uses stored procedure to retrieve information for product name and address based on productid passed from productdetails table.I am working on globalization project. We have this product information for US country but there is no product information for germany country. So dataset is empty for germany. As result I am getting error object reference not set to an instance of the object.
I have a dataset with 3 tables that are inner joined. Thsi dataset is connected to an object datasource which is connected to a gridview. So at runtime it displays data from the database. The problem is when I click on a save button to add information to the database it throughs me an error saying Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints. But if i have two tables in my dataset it works 100%. But the problem i need that 3 tables in order to pull the required information. And if i populate the gridview using code to select the information from the database and insert information it also works 100%.
