I have a listview that is showing its result by using a linq query. The linq query goes like this.

the variable result does not return nothing, only tostring() and similar how can i get a single result from linq query and use it in my ID variable?
New to Linq and Var type have a method where linq query is executed, want to return the result and assign it to GridView. but method don't take the return type as var.
So was wondering how do i return this query result?
Should i assign this result to DataTable first and make the method return type as DataTable?

What is the type of "result"? I casted it to an IQueryable variable and it worked except it did not have some of the methods normally available, e.g. Count(). In my program I have to cast it to some explicit types and then use the Count() method.
I am running a LINQ query which populates a list used by a DropDownList, I need to insert an "Unassigned" value to the list. The function below queries the values correctly from the db but does not insert the "Unaasinged" value to the list.

mvc music store using my current DB setup. I realize that the tutorial mentions Checlking the "Include foreign key columns in the method" when creating the tables in ADO.NET, but if I am using LINQ to SQL classes, then how can I obtain the same effect. And how do I use
db.Genres.Include("Albums") to simplify my life?

the total amount show the correct calculation result, but the string format dont work.... so it display 20000 instead of Rp 20,000
btw. "Rp" is the currency symbol in my country... i dont use {0:c} coz the server user US currency
For context: First of all, I am new to LINQ, as I have been using SubSonic for quite some time now.
I have two tables, Users, and Affiliates. They both have a very typical schema. The FK that joins them is the UserId field, which is in the Affiliates table. I want to create a LINQ query that pulls the Username from the Users table using the AffiliateId value. The AffiliateId is a primary key of the Affiliates table.
I have tried to accomplish this using many variations of the following code:

In the above query, I expect to get a single row result set. However, I instead receive the entire table of results.
How can I make this work? I have yet to see an example or article out there to do what I am trying to do.
I have a query that references many tables, however the main record doesnt necessarily have records in the other tables. In my formview itemtemplate, i bind the values of the query but I'm getting an obvious error when the value is null. This is what I'm trying to do: (the field is a boolean btw). These fields are hidden so I don't really care if it gets assigned a temp value or something.

I have a label inside a formview that is not bound to anything.
Lets say I have a table of customers (with a key field called CustomerID), and then another table that has all their orders (with amount spent per order (OrderID) - based on CustomerID)
On the FormView there is a key field (CustomerID) (this is to be used as an INPUT parameter to a SP - which is to return the SUM of all the customers (Order_Totals). I could nest a view within a view I suppose to get this result, however, I just want a label to simply show this ScalarValue.
Basically, I want the label to show the aggregate (SUM) total amount each customer has spent on all orders. I have a SP called SumCost with two Fields (one a grouped by field CustomerID and the other a Summed Total of each customer's orders SumCost)
SELECT [SumCost] FROM [SumCost] WHERE ([CustomerID] = @CustomerID)
I test my SP and it works great, returning the value based on CustomerID - no problem.
My problem is getting the CustomerID passed into the SP on runtime (do I put it in FormView2_Databound) and putting the value into the label (CustTotalLbl) which is inside this form.

Anyway, what i am trying to do is display job vacancies by the result of a DropDownList value. Now each job name has a description. The problem i am having is i need to display the results in this logic:
Job nameJob descriptionJob location. But what is happening is the job description (body) is repeating the more vacancies there are. This is the page:

If you select Deputy Nursery Manager from the DropDown and hit the Search button you will see the results. After listing the first two locations the description is repeated and then the 3rd location is shown after this. This is my code:

I have two tables: Projects and ProjectsData and I want to execute query with join and get the result in the View. In the Controller I have this code:
