How To Execute An INSERT Using SqlCommand

Jun 20, 2010

I have another class that creates the connection (see refined class half way down page) and I believe it connects or at lest I do not hit any of the exceptions in run time.

I would now like to insert data into my database but nothing is updated.

I am trying to follow this example but it is for reading.

I did run "querystring" on the show SQL Pane and it does execute correctly. It inserts data properly as a new row.

string queryString =
"INSERT INTO UserData UserProfileID, ConfidenceLevel, LoveLevel, HappinessLevel) VALUES ('a051fc1b-4f51-485b-a07d-0f378528974e', 2, 2, 2);";
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)

ADO.NET :: Simple Method To Execute SQLCommand On Multiple Servers

Dec 2, 2010

Boss comes in and demands that we change an existing dataload process written in .Net 2.0 to call stored procedures on two different servers rather than just one. In his mind (not a programmer) this should be a short overnight process. We have about 60 different SQL Commands that we need to change and test. Is there a simple way to do this that I can't think of? If there isn't we will use something like replication or database mirroring, which is my preference but is likely to get the cold shoulder from my boss, especially since I have never set these up before. A function that takes a SQLCommand as its argument and then iterates through as set of connections to execute the SQLCommand. Change all stored procs to call the same stored proc on a linked server.

In other words, I have button with code behind that needs to be excuted, but at the same time want to be able to have one of animation extenders be applied to it. I understand that I need to use the BeginRequest Event, I'm just not sure how, or which javascript commands to use to call the ajax animation so the postback will still occur.

SQL Server :: Stored Procedure - EXECUTE And EXECUTE Sp_executesql

Mar 10, 2011

I am looking through a sql stored procedure which I might need to update in the near future. Basically the stored procedure is about 20 lines long. The stored procedure first builds a query

and stores it in a variable named "@Sql". And then for the last two lines of the stored procedure it appears that the big sql statement stored in "@Sql" is executed by using the "EXEC" command. See below. What is confusing though is that the query appears to be exectuted twice? Why was the query written in this way. Don't both lines do the same thing? Why is it being done twice? Could this possibly be a mistake on the
part of the person who wrote the query. Below are the two lines I am talking about?

EXEC sp_executesql @sql
EXEC (@sql)

SQLcommand Serverside For Gridview?

Mar 17, 2010

I have a gridview, where I have made autocode using the wizard. However I need a dynamic SQLcommand from server side. I have tried this code, but it doesn't work, it works if I use this code from HTML (setting the sqlcommand in the SQLDataSource. I have deleted the sqlcommand from the HTML and instead I have implemented the code in the page_load event:

Dim str As String = SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT DISTINCT Beregning.bId, Informationer.Dato,Beregning.bType, Informationer.pNavn, Informationer.pNr, Informationer.Beskr, Beregning.uId FROM Beregning CROSS JOIN Informationer WHERE (Beregning.UserId = @UserId) AND Beregning.uId = Informationer.uId AND (Beregning.bType=@berType2) ORDER BY Beregning.bId DESC"
SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = str But this code works, when I apply the SQLCommand in HTML:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:IsoPlusConnectionStringDrift %>" SelectCommand='SELECT DISTINCT Beregning.bId, Informationer.Dato,Beregning.bType, Informationer.pNavn, Informationer.pNr, Informationer.Beskr, Beregning.uId FROM Beregning CROSS JOIN Informationer WHERE (Beregning.UserId = @UserId) AND Beregning.uId = Informationer.uId AND (Beregning.bType=@berType) ORDER BY Beregning.bId DESC'>
<asp:SessionParameter Name="UserId" SessionField="userId" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Optimering" Name="berType" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Kapacitet" Name="berType2" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Varmetab - Alle rørtyper" Name="berType3" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Varmetab - Nuværdi" Name="berType4" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Nomogram" Name="berType5" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="Temperatur - Afkølingsgraf" Name="berType6" />

Benefits Of Using SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery?

Mar 29, 2010

a) SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery is used for update, insert and delete operations.

Besides the fact that by using ExecuteNonQuery instead of ExecuteReader we automatically know there won't be any query results returned, are there some other benefits/reasons why ExecuteNonQuery should be used?

b) Similarly, if we want a database operation to return a single value, we should use ExecuteScalar instead of ExecuteNonquery ,where with the latter result would be returned via SqlParameter. Is there any particular reason why we should prefer ExecuteScalar over ExecuteNonQuery?

WCF - How To Execute Server.Execute Asynchronously

Mar 30, 2010

I need to run the HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute method in my ASP.NET application. This application has a WCF operation that does some processing. Currently, I am to do my processing correctly from within my WCF operation. However, I would like to do this asynchronously.

In an error to attempt this asynchronously, I tried running Server.Execute in the DoWork event handler of a BackgroundWorker. Unfortunately, this throws an error that says

"object reference not set to an instance of an object" The HttpContext element is not null. I checked that. It is some property nested in the HttpContext object that appears to be null. However, I have not been able to identify why this won't work. It happens as soon as I move the processing to the BackgroundWorker thread.
My question is, how can I asynchronously execute the Server.Execute method?

Handling Timeouts In A Website SQLCommand Object And C#?

May 14, 2010

I'm using visual studio 2008 and sql server 2005 and everything is working just fine under normal use. However if a user is on a page for a while several minutes with no activity then clicks a button on occassion the site throws the following exception ...

Procedure or Function "sp_name" parameter '@SomeParameterName', which was not supplied

I'm also encountering this error in Visual Studio while debugging the application, in otherwords run the site from visual studio then make some change to the html in VS save the changes and refresh the page.

The error is not consistent nor is the time the page has to stay idle in order for it to occur....

The current sql command object timeout is 30 secs and the website timeout is 30 minutes.

C# - Calling SqlCommand Execution Time Is Increasing?

Jul 9, 2010

I've got a loop that executes the stored procedure in a loop with over 40,000 iterations, like so:

SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("WriteDataToDB");
command.Connection = _connection;
command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
command.Parameters.Add("@SignalID", SqlDbType.Int).Value = Arg_Signal.SignalID;
command.Parameters.Add("@SignalStrength", SqlDbType.Float).Value = Arg_Signal.SignalSiggestion;
command.Parameters.Add("@Time", SqlDbType.BigInt).Value = Arg_Signal.TimeWasHit;
command.Parameters.Add("@Value", SqlDbType.Float).Value = Arg_Signal.ValueWasHit;
if (command.Connection.State != ConnectionState.Open)

This code is called from a loop where I intercept and time every 1000th iteration. The times I get are below:

[0]: "Started 0ms"
[1]: "1000 done 578.125ms"
[2]: "1000 done 921.875ms"
[3]: "1000 done 1328.125m"
[4]: "1000 done 1734.375ms"

[6]: "1000 done 1250ms"
