How To Send Complex Types To MVC2 Controller Via Jquery (Ajax )
Feb 22, 2011
I am posting a Jquery Json serialized object to my controller but not all of the data is getting passed. One of the members is a complex type that is also Json serialized. This is the one that isn't getting through to the controller.
Here is the class I'm passing to my controller via Ajax post. Note the complex type, RoutingRuleModel.
SourceCodeModel.cs:
[code]....
Problem: SourceCodeModel contains correct values EXCEPT for it's complex member: RuleModel, which comes back as a RoutingRuleModel with default (null or 0's) values.
I'm designing a page which makes an ajax call (via jQuery.ajax) to a page method on the server side.On the server side, I have two classes: Agent and Channel.
In the page method, I'd like to return a List<Agent> and a List<Channel> to the client side. How can I return two lists to client side? should wrap them up in one class like:
I am trying to call web service from jquery..trying following way but i am not able to pass to complex type parameter to WCF service.My wcf function is as follows
<OperationContract()> <Web.WebGet(UriTemplate:="/GetData?strErrMsg={strErrMsg}&chrErrFlg={chrErrFlg}", ResponseFormat:=WebMessageFormat.Json, BodyStyle:=WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped)> _ Function GetData(ByRef strErrMsg As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of String), ByRef chrErrFlg As String) As String strErrMsg is System.Collections.Generic.List(Of String)
I am trying to call as follows
var Type; var Url; var Data; var ContentType; var DataType; var ProcessData; var parameters;
[code]...
And I am able to call other methods in same way having string and integer parameter.I have gone through this but didnt get anything. URL...
Have try to send the complex string that is created(serilize) from data.If I write just a regular string there is no problem but I want to sendover the array data as a string and then deserilize it does not work.What happens is that the webmethod 'save' never start. No error occurs!I suppose it is becouse the string contains a lot of " but I dont know howto change that and then bee able to deserilize it to the object.The string 'strData':
"{'JSONString': '[{"Show":false,"SortOrder":"","QuestionText":"Ingen rapport lämnas till kund då följande muntliga rapport har lämnats:","DefaultValue":"","CSS":"","Note":"","RQID":"Label","FunctionNr":0},{"Show":false,"SortOrder":"","QuestionText":"Lämnar
my MVC2 delete and only my delete controller is refusing to return any class information. Its really similar to my edit function and the views are all auto-generated so I don't see the problem.
Function Delete(ByVal id As Integer) As ActionResult
i am using json and jquery to send a form to the controller like below, when i click submit validation occers but line is executed even if form is invlid. How can i tell if form validation failed or succeded using javascript?
Are there advantages in creating complex types in EF4 Entities and then use the complex properties in the repositories; instead of creating the aggregates in the the repository themselves? I.e. If the customer repository consists of properties of 3 entities: customers, addresses, email would it make sense to create a complex type consisting of the address and email properties, and add them as a complex property of the customer entity then just call the customer entity and the complex property in the repository, rather than just creating the repository class and aggregate the entities in the repository.What are there advantages or disadvantages in doing this in a MVC3 application?
I am looking at ASP.NET MVC2 and trying to post a complex object using the new EditorFor syntax.I have a FraudDto object that has a FraudCategory child object and I want to set this object from the values that are posted from the form.Posting a simple object is not a problem but I am struggling with how to handle complex objects with child objects.I have the following parent FraudDto object whcih I am binding to on the form:
public class FraudDto { public FraudCategoryDto FraudCategory { get; set; }
What I want to achieve is the ID of the property: item.Item.ID to be bound to the ID from the (route)URL. However I can't get it to work. I tried using [Bind()] attribute.
I fixed it now using a hidden field in the form like so:
<%= Html.HiddenFor(model => model.Item.ID)%>
However this feels a bit icky. I'd like to know if there is a better cleaner way of doing this?
I have a table in my database with a one to many relationship to another table, which has a relationship to a third table:
[Code].....
This seems to work fine. My question to you good folks: Is there a correct way to do this? I tried following the making a custom model binder per the blog link I posted above but it didn't work (there was an issue with reflection, the code expected certain properties to exist) and I needed to get something going ASAP. PS - I tried to cleanup the code to hide specific information, so beware I may have hosed something up.
So part of my web app centers around this very important form which is used to create a form. Its like google docs form. The user keys in a type (checkbox, textfield, numericfield) and a label and slaps it into the system, and it generates a form somewhere.
Its a little more complex than google forms, the field types are complex and theres a lot more to that form (It happens to be a form generator for a finance plan)
The app is asp.net, I was thinking of using jquery and jquery's own ajax methods to post the data, but I think it would just turn into a very hairy situation, I then thought silverlight, but Ive never done silverlight before but I am an experienced .net guy.
So what do you guys think, will silverlight be too tough for a first timer for this kinda thing? Or should I stick to jquery. Plus points for silverlight is its an inhouse lan app and this particular page will be used by people with very high bandwidth.
I have .aspx page methods with return type of string, which work great. I am using some jQuery ajax, and some .NET Ajax "PageMethods.methodName" syntax from the client side to successfully call these page methods. I need to return xml from a page method.... I would LOVE to be able to return system.Xml.Linq.XElement type from page method. I get a serialization circular reference error when I attempt to return XElement or XDocument. I don't really want to return XML.ToString() to client, and then convert string to xml in javascript. What return page method return type(s) would allow me to retrieve xml with jQuery ajax call? I know json is the alternative, but will not give me what I need this time.
Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:
[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService] public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public void save_client(aClientArgs client) { // Save client data } } Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class: public class aArgs { public string id = null; public string name = null; } public class aClientArgs : aArgs { public string address = null; public string website = null; } Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args: <save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <client> <address>string</address> <website>string</website> </client> </save_client> When I'm expecting the following: <save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> <client> <id>string</id> <name>string</name> <address>string</address> <website>string</website> </client> </save_client>
So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?
Hi I have created the following controller i want to add view that should have the data access class UserMagnament.Controller.menuitems but when i add view by right clicking on view folder,it is not showing "UserMagnament.Controller.menuitems" in add data class
No controller is shown such as homecontoller, accounts controller, UMController(My Controller) etc i have converted my solution from mvc 1 to mvc2. i checked the web.config. it seems ok for MVC2
i would like to call an HttpGet GetEvents(Datetime dateSelected) controller action each time the user cliks on a date in jquery ui datepicker. I handle the onSelect datepicker event in order to call GetEvents() and refresh the Events page with the events for the selected date. The $.ajax method i use from jquery hits the GetEvents action, but instead of refreshing the page (and the url), i get an ajax result back.
[Code]....
So, how could i just call the HttpGet GetEvents() controller action via jquery, without the use of ajax in order to refresh the page?
I have a form that I don't want to post back so I need to get the form values into my controller via jquery's ajax method.Here is my test controller method:
[Code]....
When I debug the controller method and look at the lineItems parameter, it always contains 0 items. I've tried various formats for the javascipt lineItems parameter but still 0 items. I'm also open to some other way of getting these values in like the jquery form serialze method or something else.
i have a website where i provicde a link. On clicking the link a controller action method is called to generate a zip file after creation of zip file is done, i show the link to download the zip file by replacing the link to create a zip with the link to download the zip.
the problem is that after zip file creation is over and link is shown, when user clicks on the link to download the zip file, they are sent to login. After providing correct credentials in the login page they are prompted to download the zip file. they sould not be sent to the login page. In the action to generate zip file i haven't abondoned the session or haven't not done anything that abondons the session.
the user should not be sen't to login page after successful creation of zip file user should be able to download the file without login. i search internet on this problem, but i did not find any solution. In one of the blog written by hanselman i found this statement that creates the problem with the session: Is some other thing like an Ajax call or IE's Content Advisor simultaneously hitting the default page or login page and causing a race condition that calls Session.Abandon? (It's happened before!)
so i thought there might be some problem with ajax call that causes the session to expire, but i don't know what is happening? it's like this after users click on the link to create zip file the zip file is created successfully but the session gets expired. this is not what i want. Why does the session has to get expired after making a jquery post call to controller action to create a zip file? i hope u understand the problem.
getting data from multiple Entities models into an MVC controller. Most of the examples I have seen for using EF in an MVC2 app only use a single entitiy.
I have just started using MVC2 in C# using the Entity Framework models (CIOps.model) created from an SQL database. I can create the controller and views using single tables of the model in MVC2, but I just cannot get my head around how to get data from multiple entity tables into the controller (similar to joins in T-SQL). I have included an example below of the controller code that works with a single entity table, tbl_tours (tbl_tour in DB).
Could someone please illustrate how this code would be changed to include additional columns from FK tables in addition to tbl_tours columns. E.g. the clients name from the tbl_clients, the coordinators name from the tbl_employees, and costs from tbl_costs entities? Is it possible to do this directly using the EF model entities/classes that are already created and not use LINQ, POCO, Repositories, etc.? The FK relationships are already in the EF models. I have included the whole controller code, but I just need a few examples of how to join the multiple entities, not rewrite every CRUD function function in the controller. I think this will get me over the hump in using EF in an MVC2 App. Also ignore the fact I am using the home controller, this will change in the application.
I have 2 classes that are used to mirror the data from an ajax call. One (Customer) contains a property which is name, and the other is an array of Products.
Public Class Customer Private _Name as String Private _Products as Product() Public Property Name() As String
