Installed SQL Server Express 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I cannot get the server agent or the browser to start. The start is grayed out. How do I need to configure SQL Server so I can get these running?

I had archived all of my files prior to the change. Since I am now having a great deal of trouble working with 2010, I want to revert. My question is: If I restore all of the archived files and start 2008, will I need to make any changes to the registry or to any other files?
The problems that I am having are illusive. Some of the relative paths nolonger work. Some f the projects that had been working for 24 months no longer functions. I am having a great deal of trouble calling my older "[WebMethod]" "ASMX" services and many other issues.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to get an asp.net application up on IIS on a Windows Server 2008 machine. I can hit the app from localhost, no problem. But I can't access the app using the server's domain name either locally or from another machine on the network.But here's the odd part. I can access a normal file on IIS using the domain name, both from a browser running on the server and from a browser running on another machine on the network. Here's a synopsis ("http" converted to "htp" below because I don't have enough points to have all these links in my message):

View 2 RepliesWe are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. When i access this service when running my asp.net website through code everything works fine how ever when i deploy the application on the local IIS , in the deployed mode i am getting an securityaccessdeined exception. Custom event details:
After I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard edition, then I upgrade "SQL Server Express 2005" to "SQL Server Express 2008 SP2". Process upgrading SQL Server Express 2008 was going succesfully (none of the process was fail).
But when I create a New Website I could not add a new item "SQL Server Database" into my website file. Because Visual Studio always rejected any new "SQL Server Database" by giving message below (underline):
This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported.
One customer set up an IIS 7 on a Windows 2008 machine. Forms Authentication works fine on my local IIS 6.0 and also on a shared server I used for testing. On the new machine there is no way no access the password protected area despite a succesful login.
Is there any settings I should ask my customer to check out on the server ? Or is there something different for IIS 7 I should see in my web.config ?
The MVC 2.0 RTM works great on my old Vista machine with VWD 2008 Express, but I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 Pro, installed VWD 2008 Express SP1 and MVC 2.0 RTM by using Web PI 2.0. but after installation, I found the VWD doesn't have any MVC options, that means I can't either create new MVC projects or compile existing MVC projects.Why? What other steps I need to do to make it work?
I'm sure the MVC has been installed properly since my MVC site on the new computer works well (so the IIS side has no problem), just the VWD can't 'realize' that the MVC framework is already installed... (tried to uninstall and install many times, but won't work)

I recently purchased a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). I installed Visual Web Developer 2008 Express using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer. When I open a .aspx file within one of my websites VWD immediately freezes. The program will not respond and I have to use the task manager to force it to shut. This happens every time.
I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing VWD but the problem still occurs. However if I open another type of file in a website, say a .css or .xml file the problem does not occur. It seems to happen only when I open a .aspx file. Has anyone else come across this?
i have installed SQL server 2005 Server & Clicent in My PC. now i want to install SQL server 2008 Express Edition.

I know this is probably a stupid question and/or has been asked before, but.... I've search through the forum and Google to no avail. I have access to a Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2. It is running IIS 7 and has ASP.NET Frameworks 3.5 SP1 installed.
I have no problem running either Classic .asp pages, Html pages or ASP.Net Webforms. However, when I try to upload and run a MVC application, I get error:Could not load file or assembly 'MvcApplication1' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.
My question is and I have not been able to find any references online, but does the ASP.NET MVC 2 need to be installed on the Server, like it does on my devopement machine that I'm using VS 2008? If so, what exactly needs to be installed on the server to get the MVC applications to run?
I have SQL server management studio express install on one machine.
I am able to connect to that machine or able to ping that machine from my computer.
I have code which return me the SQL server instances on same network. Using that I am able to get that SQL server instance. I have configured SQL express to access remote connection. i.e.
Configured SQL express to accept named / TCP IP instance connection. Started Browser service.
My machine settings My machine has been configured to set dynamic IP address using DHCP protocol
When I am trying to connect to above mentioned SQL server I am getting error that "Failed to connect SERVER NAME\SQLEXPRESS".
But if I configured my machine with manual IP address and default gateway I am able to connect to same SQL server.
I got the solution to connect to that server but I don't know why I am facing such problem. And also let me know that is the solution I am using is correct or not?
Would something be missing, not working, or confusing if I do this? First, install SQL Server 2008 Standard, and SP1. Then, install Visual Studio 2010 Professional, unchecking SQL Server 2008 Express option. Or would I need to fix any configurations afterwards?

I just downloaded and installled the Microsoft Windows Azure SDK yesterday for the first time and I am having issues running the application as I all I am getting is 503 errors. I run Windows Server 2008 R2 on my development machine and even tested it on another co-workers 2008 R2 and couldn't even compile the application. He got this error instead "A problem occurred while trying to set the "References" parameter for the IDE's in-process compiler. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component."
From within my Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Virtual Windows 7 x86 enviroment, I was able to successfully build and run the Windows Azure SDK and it even showed the base ASP.NET application.So my question is, does the Windows Azure SDK for Visual Studio 2010 w/ Visual Studio 2010 SP 1 installed not work under Microsoft Server 2008 R2?
