I am trying to get the following code behind to store a file in a datbase using Linq (with *dbml). I am getting an intellisense error in my "For each" loop the says the following":Value of 'Byte' cannot be converted to 'System.Data.Linq.Binary'I have been searching for awhile, but I can't seem to find a solution that has worked for me yet.
[Code]....
my table column is:
AttachContent varbinary (max)
when i try to retrieve the data and i get this below error, i am using linq
cannot convert from 'System.Data.Linq.Binary' to 'System.IO.BinaryReader'
Need to display download link with file size as(369KB, 1MB) for file's saved in database for images,pdf, doc, docx, xlsx.
How to calculate file size for any format of file saved in database..?
how to encrypt a PIN in to 4 byte binary. The MD5 and other hashes I have known give the result as 8 or 16 byte. I need only 4 bytes because it is alloted only varchar(4) in the database.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to upload a picture into database using FormView insertItemTemplate. FormView is bounded by objectdatasource.To upload, I placed FileUpload control inside insertItemTemplate.In table the dataType is image.Error:Object of type 'System.Boolean' cannot be converted to type 'System.Byte[]'.
View 3 RepliesI'm retrieving a binary file from the database, a .pdf file that I would like to let the user open and view. From what I can tell, there are two steps to do this:
1. Convert binary file to byte array
2. Convert byte array to file content
Here's what I've got so far:

This isn't working and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a solution. I'm getting a blue squiggly under c1.docData in the Dim bArray line.

i am failing to get the Base64 string and show it as an image in the output pdf file.
I have a signautre canvas that saves the output directly into the sql database.
I have defined an ODBC Command and ODBCdatareader as follows
OdbcConnection myConnection = new OdbcConnection(connectionString);
OdbcCommand myCommand = new OdbcCommand();
myCommand.Connection = myConnection;
myCommand.CommandText = "select UOPGM from GREG.TUSROPTF";
OdbcDataReader myReader;
myConnection.Open();
myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();
When I try to retreive from the reader as follows:
while (myReader.Read())
{
string someString = myReader["UOPGM"];
lstNames.Items.Add(someString);
}
I get the following error
Error reading the database. Unable to cast object of type 'System.Byte[]' to type 'System.String'."
I have also tried string someString = (string)myReader["UOPGM"]; to no avail
Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Byte[]'....

private void download(DataTable dt) { Byte[] bytes = (Byte[])dt.Rows[0]["FileData"];
Response.Buffer = true; Response.Charset = "";
I am trying to pull string values from LDAP. They are all text attributes in LDAP. I'm able to pull all values successfully from LDAP except one attribute below. following line of code displays System.Byte[] instead of actual string value. Why is it showing System.Byte[] and how can I fix it?
txtAccount.Text = loResultPropertyCollection[
"Account"][0].ToString().ToLower();
I have written this query for retrieving data from mysql as below
select FeedbackCode,EMailID,FeedbackDetail,
Date_Format(FeedbackDate,'%m,%d') as 'Feedback_Date'
from FeedbackDetail
where EMailID not like '' and InstanceCode =5
and I'm binding this data with GridView in asp.net but at the column of Feedback_Date,
instead of Date I receive System.Byte[].
Is it possible to convert a datatable into binary data and save it into on a binary field on database?
View 2 RepliesI have a database with Pictures in it, they are varbinary(MAX) type, the database is SQL 2005
1. How can I use Linq to SQL to give me the total byte(file size) of a picture stored in a record.
2. How do I get total byte (file size's) of many pictures my a where clause.
I know how to do the where clause just dont know how to add up total byte size of all pictures and or get total size of single picture.
I am develping an application that integrates with an RFID kit. The problem is, the kit comes with an .cs class that accepts data stored in a byte array however, each information stored in the array respresents an int. I wanted to store String information in each array but, my research suggest that a String itself can be converted to a byte array and not a byte....here the code from the .cs class:
byte BlockNo = 0;
byte[] BlockData = new byte[16];
byte ReturnCode = 0;
[code]....
Each t_b*.text respresents an int. Is there a way I can stored a String in a single byte block?
I've just used Visual Studio to create a linq to sql class. In the .designer.cs file the code includes:using System.Data.Linq;However, when I compile the projeget:Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' (are you missing an assembly reference?)The code is completely generated by Visual Studio
View 5 RepliesI have been googling this and have not come along a working solution for an entire day. I don't know anything about binary data types (as I've never knowingly used them) and I'm trying to write a binary value that I see in the registry, to the registry. Now, all I see is the following [shown below]... and if I try to pass that as a string to the RegSetValueEx in the WinAPI and of course it errors out... I do not know what 'numbers' I need to pass into the lpData As Any, argument of RegSetValueEx (i tried a bit array) in order for it to come out as the following [shown below] in the regedit. I really have no idea, and my tests to place random numbers in the bit array just produce corresponding random "figures" as visible in regedit that I do not understand how to 'tie' them together logically.
here is the culprit!

If I had the following in a string or a bit array, what must I populate the bitarray with so that the registry outputs this [above] when written? or, how can I figure out how to do it? I was hoping there'd be a function that reads my string of binary data and transforms it into the real binary format to submit to the RegSetValueEx function in VB6 or other function in VB.Net or C# (this really is a language agnostic question, and the problem exists in all languages; ie: same process).
I wasted the better part of the day on this and am no closer to a understanding the issue than what I was this morning.
I am looping through a set of objects and marking them for deletion. The 2nd one always causes the above exception. tb_invoice has a FK to tb_shipment.
As always, I am probably missing something very obvious, but I have stripped out so much from this code already that there is nothing left, and I am still getting this exception. This is a local SQL 2008 instance and there is of course nothing and nobody changing the invoice in between reading them and calling SubmitChanges().
myDataContext db = new myDataContext();
IQueryable<invoiceDetail> pendingInvoices
db.GetInvoiceDetailPending();
foreach (invoiceDetail id in pendingInvoices) {
tb_shipment s = db.GetShipmentById((Guid)id.shipment_id);
db.tb_invoices.DeleteOnSubmit(
db.GetInvoiceById(s.tb_invoices.FirstOrDefault().id)); }
SubmitChanges(); // fails for the 2nd invoice
}
I am using System.Linq.Dynamic to create the following query at runtime:

I can then successfully display vMediaQ in a GridView.But I need to be able to access the individual fields (column headers and data) in vMediaQ, which is of type System.Linq.IQueryable.
ArrayList lstEndPoints
0 element "0x01"
1 element "0x82"
byte b = (byte)(lstEndPoints[0]); //Error cannot convert
I got a variable of type System.Drawing.Image and need to convert it to a variable of type byte so I can store the image in the database. Can someone show me how to do that in VB.NET code.
View 2 RepliesI have a System.Data.Linq.DataContext object and need to know the proper way of closing it out before it goes out of scope in order to prevent the following error when making a bunch of database changes:
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.
Can I just call obj.Dispose() or do I need to call obj.Connection.Dispose() or obj.Connection.Close()?
I guess what I want to know is will calling obj.Dispose() end up executing the functionality in obj.Connection.Dispose() and obj.Connection.Close(). The MSDN documentation that I found on these functions does not have this information (at least I didn't see it - I could have mistakenly overlooked it).
I have downloaded Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and am trying to use LINQ. In order to do that I have added a LINQ to SQL class to the web site and have dragged tables from the database view into the LINQ designer, which worked fine.But..When I add: using System.Data.Linq;to MainPage.xaml.cs, I receive an error:
Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Data' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?)Even although I have references to System.Core, System.Data, System.Data.Linq in the website references.
I need a linq-to-sql use dbml, then I follow this article : http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/147218.aspxSet the child to internal, set serialzable to unidirection and add updatecheck=never
[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ColumnAttribute(Storage="_DvdId",
AutoSync=AutoSync.OnInsert, DbType="Int NOT NULL IDENTITY", IsPrimaryKey=true,
IsDbGenerated=true, UpdateCheck=UpdateCheck.Never)]
[global::System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMemberAttribute(Order=1)]

Is there a way to do the following in VB:dim sTableClass as string = <my underlying table class in linq>dim dbTab as system.data.linq.table(<typed class of sTableClass>)I've tried cycling through the table objects of the linq data context and retrieved the following: Dim ddData = pkDB.GetTable(tt.RowType.Type.UnderlyingSystemType)(where tt reflects the row of the table I want to retrieve) But the expression returns and itable and I need the table equivalent but can't get this to work with a stri
