Membershipprovider: Automatically Logging Out When Session Ends?
Sep 9, 2010
I have some problems with getting my website to log out the authenticated user automatically when the session ends (the user closes the browser).
This is what I have in my web.config:
[code]...
When I close the browser, the user is still logged in. How do I make the website forget the user through an option, so the user himself can decide if the website should remember or not?
I am developing membership for website. SQL Server 2005 is at backend. I want Column <Package> to "Free" from "Premium" automatically when month ends. The website is membership per month basis. Two type of members "Free" and "Premium".
Is there any way to automatically column update as month ends. Can I do it with triggers? If yes then how?
I write a countdown timer in jQuery and i need to keep some datas in a session when countdown ends. Datas have to be sent to server to update. How can i handle this situation. I am new in jQuery and asp.net so could you explain this briefly
I have an asp.net application with a background thread. The thread starts when the application starts and it is gracefully stopped when the application ends. I am running the website on a shared host. Unfortunately sometimes the application does not trigger the Application_End event when it ends. I would think that the threads would be killed anyway, but that's not the case. I currently have 4 threads running in the background. Three from previous times the application started and 1 from the current application session. How can I ensure that the threads are shutdown when the application ends? Is there a way for the threads to check if the application was reset or had been reset? Or is there a way to check for these rogue threads at application startup and kill them?
My web application uses forms authentication. One of my users who uses IE8 says that she always stays logged into the website on her computer. This is even after she closes the browser window and restarts the computer. This only happens on her computer, if she switches computers the same thing won't happen.
I'm baffled by this. Is there a setting in IE that could save her login information and automatically sign her in every time she accesses the website? Is there anything else to look into?
My web application was in .NET framework 1.1 initially. It has a few ASP server grids and some third party controls (Infragistics). I had it migrated to .NET framework 3.0.
Now I've added a few ASP server grids('GridView'). The thing is when the session('InProc') ends after 20 mins, the rows of the newly added grids disappear. However, this is not happening with the grids that were present already pre-migration. I am not using any session variables to initialise or bind the new grids.
This is happening only if the controls are added in the web forms that were involved in the framework migration process. If the control is added in the new web form, then this issue's not occuring.
Also I am not allowed to change the session state to any other. It has to remain 'InProc'. Continuing the session indefinitely is also not an option.
Kindly let me know why my appln redirects me to Session TimeOut page on a simple postback. This doesnot happen on my local pc but happens only on prod. Here is the code I m using on my PageBase.cs 's Init method
I created a user control for my web application that checks for Session Timeout. If the criteria are met for Timeout, I use Response.Redirect to send the user back to the login page. I include this user control in my Master page, and run the SessionTimeoutcode in the user control's Page_Init event. That all works great. However, once the user logs in again after time-out (and I have verified that the OnLoggedIn event does fire) the user is redirected to the DestinationPageUrl. That page runs the Session Timeout check when it loads (as it should) and the Session Timeout code "says" that the session is still timed-out.
I recently inherited an asp.net website made up of multiple .aspx and .ascx pages and being rather new to web development and especailly asp.net. I have the site create a cookie upon login to automatically log users back in if the page times out on them while they're entering information.
I need the site to automatically log users out when the site is closed. Obviously using the me.close event on each page won't work because we don't want it to log people out every time they navigate to a new page in the site.
I've tried setting the timeouts in both IIS and in the files of the website to longer but it doesn't seem to have an effect.
Is there an easy way to automatically log users out when they leave the site but not when they navigate from page to page.
I want to save some info in the Session when the users successfully logins with my custom MembershipProvider, but I have no access to the Session in the provider's ValidateUser method.
public class CustomMembershipProvider : MembershipProvider { /* Override other methods and properties here */ public override bool ValidateUser(string username, string password) { /* do something to validate the username and password * and set the validUser variable */ if (validUser) { /* want to store some info in the Session here, but I can't access * it here, because this is not a Page */ } return validUser; } }
I'm working on adding a new webapp to an existing website. I've been directed to write the webapp in ASP.NET. The existing website is written in ColdFusion. For the most part, the ASP.NET webapp is completely stand-alone, but it needs to interact with the ColdFusion code in one important way - if somebody logs in to the ColdFusion site, we don't want them to have to log in again when visiting an ASP.NET page.
When someone logs in to the ColdFusion site, their username is stored in a cookie, along with a login token that can be looked up in our database. My .NET is a little rusty, so I'm having trouble visualizing how the ASP.NET code should use this data. I've already written a simple MembershipProvider that can be used to log in/out out the ASP.NET app using the data in our existing database tables, which are shared with the ColdFusion code.
What I'd like to know is - how can I make sure the ASP.NET app detects the cookies set by the ColdFusion app (I imagine they'd be sent to the ASP.NET pages, since everything is hosted on one domain), and automatically logs the user in using the MembershipProvider and Forms Authentication, using the credentials supplied in the cookie? I'm thinking that putting some kind of cookie check and log in function in the Global.asax file, set to run every page load for every page... but that seems kind of clunky. Also, do people still use the Global.asax file anyway? I had thought there was a more modern method.... Also, how can I manually log someone in using Forms Authentication and a custom membership provider? Currently my code allows the user to log in using the provided login control, but I'm not sure how to log the user in without them having to do anything.Looking over the MembershipProvider tutorials and the MSDN documentation it seems to me like the answer should be staring me in the face, but for some reason I just can't see it. Maybe not enough coffee....
I'm debugging some unexpected behavior and while tracing in to the .NET framework I see a bunch of stuff like this:
if (Logging.On) { Logging.PrintInfo(Logging.Web, this, SR.GetString(SR.net_log_n_certs_after_filtering, filteredCerts.Count)); ... }
But (as expected by default) the execution steps right over these. Is there some way to turn on the logging? Or is that just something that the framework developers can do while making special builds of the framework?
Let suppose, I am building an asp.net website which has login scenario in it. I want to provide a certain functionality to the website that if the user is already login on computer 1 and now try to login on computer 2, so he will be allowed to remain login on computer 2, while automatically logout him from computer 1. I also know that http is a stateless medium, so whenever user interact with computer 1 and try to interact with the page, it will get noticed at that time.
I have created a website. I login with username and password and after authenticating i redirect the user to Home Page. When the user clicks Logout, they are redirected to the Login Page. But after this when i click the BACK button on the browser, it again goes back to the Home Page with that user's login credentials. I have used Session["username"]=null in the Page_Load function of Home Page. How to avoid going back to the Home Page when the BACK button is clicked by the User??
I have a script that send a daily email to a list of recipients from a database. I am having a couple of emails failing to send and the try/catch/ex.message & ex.stacktrace doesn't give me enough information to show what the actual problem is. I have tried to do some smtp session logging but that seems to not be doable since I am running under Medium trust. Is their either another way to get this code to work on medium trust or another way to get detailed SMTP log info.
I have a website built in ASP.net 3.5, using WinForms and AjaxToolKit. I have encountered a lost/corrupt session issue while using Internet Explorer 8.
1. Login, Redirect to Landing, Logout - WORKS AS EXPECTED 2. Login, redirect to Landing, Close Window, Open Window, Logged-in already - WORKS AS EXPECTED (remember me enabled by default in code)
1 IE8 Browser, 2 Tabs -------------------------------------- 1. Login, Redirect to Landing, Open new tab, paste Landing page URL, Landing renders. - WORKS AS EXPECTED - Logout from Tab 2, Tab 1 logs out after AJAX update. - WORKS AS EXPECTED - Login from Tab 1, Redirects to Landing, then Redirects back to Login page - ISSUE
[code]...
2. Close Window,Login,Redirect to Landing - WORKS AS EXPECTED
2 IE8 Browser, 1 Tab -------------------------------------- 1. Open 2 IE windows 2. In Window 1, Login, Redirect to Landing, then Redirects back to Login. - ISSUE - Window 2 Paste Landing page URL, Landing page renders - ISSUE, STRANGLY NOW WORKS
[code]...
This issue seems to only happen when I have multiple tabs open,or multiple rwssers open.Firefox and Chrome does not reproduce this issue and works as expected. How do I make sure the Cookie/Session is being handle correctly in IE8?
Here is my Login Auth:

I spent a day trying to make Ent Lib Logging work and log anything into database or event log. I have a web application and console application with the same Ent Lib config but only the console application is capable to log into the Event Log. I tried everything with permissions but I don't know what exactly I am doing — which services should have what. It does not work!
I read articles like this[URL] and I want to try to give the ASPNET account those permissions. I am using Windows 7 and I cannot find ASPNET user account. So where is it?
This is the config file which is automatically generated from Ent Lib utility and it works only on App.config, not on web.config:
i made an web application for my client, he is from usa, I deployed application to [URL], at my local system, the project function proper. But what is happening that at main server the session is destroying automatically, before the idle time. I have been figuring out this problem for long but could not solved it. what may be the reason behind this session out. I am using in process session.
I think my subject line explains my problem in a nutshell.. I have a login page, I login like I should and everything works.I logout and when I type/paste the address to the page, in the address field, I still reach it just like if I was still logged in..The page I type in the address field is in a subfolder, only suppose to be able to be reached by logged in users and in this folder, ith it's own web.config-file:
I am using session on my online application if im wrong let me know when i wana remove session i will put this code
session.remove("userid")
and also im using session for user login when user login on that time i have create one session("user_rights")
if session("user_rights") is nothing then Response.Redirect("Logout.aspx") end if
but some time on working time session automatically or i dont know exactly session expire and on running time it go out i mean logout...and at that time if im doing something on my application all will be lose how can i make strong my session ... here is web.config code
