I want to develop reporting service application in asp.net 2.0 with SQL server 2005.
I install sql server 2005 in my remote machine with BIDS. I need to develop reporting service application in my machine i have vs 2005 and sql server express edition.
How to download/install BIDS or Report Builder for vs 2005 in my machine.
I would like to create my reports by drawing out the data from the database. After creating my template (what would be in my report) and saving it as the .rdlc format, what should i do next do preview the actual data, or to present it in my asp.net pages.
I like the way how report builder works as it can export to pdf/excel, however its a standalone. Is there any way to make it similar in microsoft visual studio 2010 professional?
I'm creating a reports with the following filter criteria:
ID - textbox Created Date - range between start and end date Syste Name - dropdown Users may filter the report based on the ID or System Name or all the criteria mentioned.
The search Field for ID, by default has a Null checkbox beside on it while other filter doesn't. how can I enable the checkbox for the other filters?
So I came across this article which should my issue. Apparently, I'm receiving a formula error "The arguments to the following functions are not valid:FIND" with this formula OR(FIND(Creation Date, Parameter: Creation Date)<>0, Parameter : Creation Date = Empty). see this link for the screenshot. I don't know what I'm missing. I'm using Reporting Services 2005
have a report that worked fine until we upgraded the SQL server from 2008 to 2008 R2 and the report viewer to latest version as well. This report has a pie display, NOW instead of showing one pie, it is showing 20 pies!I am trrying to learn how to resolve and what is causing this.View 1 Replies

Report viewer from SQL reporting services in VS 2008 report control If I create a new report in VS 2008 they have a .rdlc extension and work correctly.
I have some reports that I was using in SQL reporting services. Extensions are .rdl and want to get them to work with VS 2008.
I copied the rdl files and the .rdl.data files over to VS 2008 (SP1) project but when I go to select the report in the control it does not see the file (I assume it is looking for a .rdlc file)
I tried rename the file to .rdlc and loaded the file up and got
The report definition has an invalid target namespace [URL] which cannot be upgraded.
I see this
"RDL files are fully compatible with the ReportViewer control runtime. However, RDL files do not contain some information that the design-time of the ReportViewer control depends on for automatically generating data-binding code. By manually binding data, RDL files can be used in the ReportViewer control."
But the link for how to manual bind the data is broken.
Can you please point me to an example of how to implement drill down in RDLC?
I am in a situation where the first report appears perfectly, but when I click on a drill down link , i get an error A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source 'RecuirtmentDataSet_ProfileTracker'.

I have a standard gridview, with the standard paging and sorting interface enabled. The application holds appointments for three organisational units, with a maximum of 3000 appointment records being returned across all three units. The appointment records are quite small.
The choice I am faced with is to:
1. Have an Org Unit dropdown which returns to the datasource on change of selection and at inital databind, and returns appointment records for one org unit at a time i.e. approx 1000 records.
2. Have the objectdatasource return all 3000 appointment records for all org units at initial databind, and filter the objectdatasource by org unit on change of selection, thereby saving a trip to the datasource.
I guess the question boils down to identifying the point at which querying the datasource by org unit is more efficient than filtering the records returned by org unit.
Is 3000 records a lot for a gridview to be paging and sorting etc.
I'm looking for the Report Header section in the Report Services report and can only see Page Header/Page Footer, where can I find the Report Header/Report Footer? or RS doesn't have them? My problem is, I use the Page Header to include the Report Name & Desc. along with client's Logo, it works however my client doesn't want the Page Header to show on every page just the first page is good enough save papers and keep larger report small.View 3 Replies

In the web form I have taken a report viewer control and have binded the report. Now i have a view report button. I am working with rdlc reports. I have an asp.net web form where i'll select a parameter (substance name)from a dropdown. When I click on view reports button, the report should open in a pop up. I am passing the ID(substance ID) from dropdown in query string to the popup page.
When I click on view reports button, the report should open in a pop up. For this I have taken report viewer control in another aspx page. The code in the aspx.cs page which contains the report viewer control is as follows :
I have taken two rdlc reports. The main report has the parameter SubstanceID. The child report has parameter substance name. When I click on one particular textbox in main report it should navigate to another report. So, in textbox properties of main report in Navigation tab,I am giving "jump to report"--child report name and parameters "@SubstanceName" and its Parametervalue as :
When I work out this report in server side reporting(ReportServerProject) it works as expected. But in coding it throws an error :
An error occurred during local report processing.
An attempt was made to set a report parameter '@SubstanceName' that is not defined in this report.
I have taken a report viewer and two ObjectDataSources....one for parent report and other for child report.
The code for the page that contains report viewer is as follows:
In page Load : Binding Parent report
