SQL Server :: How To Build Long Query String Error / Too Many Characters In Character Literal
Sep 23, 2010
I know that it is basic questions, but I am stuck here.
I have TableOne have fields: USERNAME, PID, GID, TID, SID, NEWSID. I need to write query string to check if those value is already in the table. If not, insert those value to the table.
I have a javascript to enable text boxes when called, I want to trigger this code when a user picks value "Custom" from a dropdownlist, so that I can display/Hide these new textboxes.
I am fetching some data from Db and displaying it in a textarea using jquery in the following way.$('#textareatest').val('<% =teststring %>').It is possible that the string 'teststring' can contain XHTML line breaks(<br/>).whenever the string contains <br/> I am getting the 'unterminated string literal' error.I saw a number of posts considering '' as line breaks and suggesting to escape it.I tried to escape the <br/> similarly,but it didn't work.
I am using silverlight / ASP .NET and C#. What if I want to do this from silverlight for instance,
// I have left out the quotes to show you literally what the characters // are that I want to use string password = vtakyoj#"5 string encodedPassword = HttpUtility.UrlEncode(encryptedPassword, Encoding.UTF8); // encoded password now = vtakyoj%23%225
URI uri = new URI("http://www.url.com/page.aspx@password=vtakyoj%23%225");
HttpPage.Window.Navigate(uri);
If I debug and look at the value of uri it shows up as this (we are still inside the silverlight app),
[URL]
So the %22 has become a quote for some reason.
If I then debug inside the page.aspx code (which of course is ASP .NET) the value of Request["password"] is actually this,
vtakyoj#"5
Which is the original value. How does that work? I would have thought that I would have to go,
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim SQLData As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True") Dim cmdSelect As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Table1 WHERE Date =" & TextBox1.Text & "'", SQLData) SQLData.Open() Dim dtrReader As System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader = cmdSelect.ExecuteReader() While dtrReader.Read() For j As Integer = 1 To 31 Dim s As String = "s" & j If dtrReader(s.ToString()).ToString() = "b" Then Dim img As ImageButton = DirectCast(Panel1.FindControl(s.ToString()), ImageButton) img.ImageUrl = "~/Images/booked.gif" img.Enabled = False End If Next End While dtrReader.Close() SQLData.Close() End Sub
Error:
Unclosed quotation mark after the character string ''.
I am developing a C# VS 2008 / SQL Server 2005 Express website application. I have tried some of the fixes for this problem but my call stack differs from others. And these fixes did not fix my problem. What steps can I take to troubleshoot this?
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was caught Message="Conversion failed when converting datetime from character string." When I debugged this code, "dic" only looped through the 3 column names, but did not look into row values which are stored in "dt", the Data Table. public static string AppendDataCT(DataTable dt, Dictionary<string, string> dic) { if (dic.Count != 3) throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("dic can only have 3 parameters"); string connString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["AW3_string"].ConnectionString; string errorMsg; try { using (SqlConnection conn2 = new SqlConnection(connString)) { using (SqlCommand cmd = conn2.CreateCommand()) { cmd.CommandText = "dbo.AppendDataCT"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Connection = conn2; foreach (string s in dic.Keys) { SqlParameter p = cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(s, dic[s]); p.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.VarChar; } conn2.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); conn2.Close(); errorMsg = "The Person.ContactType table was successfully updated!"; } } }
i want to bind my table to the datagridview in VB.net windows form (not in asp.net). but when i try to bind and run the applicatiion i got the following error "syntax error converting datetime from character string". my table contains two date filed"pdate","date" which contains the date in the followingg format"2010-02-01 00:00:00.000 i want to bind this date fileds to datagrid view.
I've put (spaces between & and gt above code otherwise it was not showing in stackoverflow.) The HTML sysntaxs are correct because it's created by an HTMLEDITOR.
we are using transactional replication on an sql 2008 server. we try now to add a table to the replication that only consists of 1 culomn of type date and we insert the dates to the table. when we then create the replication we are getting an error on the creation of the snapshot. here is the create table with the insert dates:
USE [Product] GO /****** Object: Table [TimeSlices].[BaseDate] Script Date: 05/03/2010 15:52:24 ******/ IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[TimeSlices].[BaseDate]') AND type in (N'U')) DROP TABLE [TimeSlices].[BaseDate] GO USE [Product] GO /****** Object: Table [TimeSlices].[BaseDate] Script Date: 05/03/2010 15:52:24 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE TABLE [TimeSlices].[BaseDate]( [TargetDate] [date] NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_BaseDate] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [TargetDate] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] GO INSERT INTO [TimeSlices].[BaseDate] SELECT TargetDate FROM [TimeSlices].UDF_GetTravelDateRange(GETDATE()-2 , GETDATE()+1000) attached is the UDF: [Code].... this is the add article: use [Product] exec sp_addarticle @publication = N'Product$(QuoteNumber)', @article = N'BaseDate', @source_owner = N'TimeSlices', @source_object = N'BaseDate', @type = N'logbased', @description = null, @creation_script = null, @pre_creation_cmd = N'drop', @schema_option = 0x000000000803509F, @identityrangemanagementoption = N'manual', @destination_table = N'BaseDate', @destination_owner = N'TimeSlices', @vertical_partition = N'false', @ins_cmd = N'CALL sp_MSins_TimeSlicesBaseDate', @del_cmd = N'CALL sp_MSdel_TimeSlicesBaseDate', @upd_cmd = N'SCALL sp_MSupd_TimeSlicesBaseDate' GO
this is the error we get:

why we are getting the conversion error on the snapshot creation?
I am having problems with the following update query that is part of an SQL Datasource. This query was automatically generated by VS2008 and I have formatted it so that it is easier to read.
Everything works but the [ZIP+4] field which does not update. I believe that VS2008 added the square brackets around the field name because of the plus character that it contains. If I change the ZIP+4 variable name to [ZIP+4] = @ZIP4 it still does not work. This brings up another question, I have never understood where these update queries are getting their data from.
ERROR MESSAGE: Unclosed quotation mark after the character string ') '.Incorrect syntax near 's'.I am getting this error when adding a value to a table which contains a single quotation, value is: men'sthat value is been pass as the keyword name.this is the query that i am using: Dim sql2 As String = "INSERT INTO keyword_relation_type (business_id, keyword_name, keyword_id) VALUES ('" & business_id & "','" & keywords(i) & "','" & keywordsID(i) & " ') "
how I can get around the following error with the following code?
[Code]....
Error: Msg 8169, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier. As you can probably tell, the datatypes are: m.UserId = uniqueidentifier l.System_User_ID = varchar(256) I was hoping the casting of one to the other would solve the issue, but it doesn't. How can I re-code this? I see from other forums it would probably be best to set all these fields to uniqueidentifier, but would prefer not to at this stage as it will involve changing quite a bit throughout the whole site!
I've developed a web application to accept video file uploads and then pass them to a backend service on an external server. The application runs without error on the visual studio debugging webserver, but once on a production iis 6 or 7 server, yields a timeout error at about a consistent amount of time into handling a large upload. Specifically, it errors in the middle of transferring the video file to the external server, once the application has successfully received it from the client. I'm aware of several timeouts to be configured related to the problem, and have done so. The application's web config has been tested with one or both of the following settings
<system.web> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="9999999" maxRequestLength="2048000" /> </system.web> and <configuration> <location path="default.aspx"> (the page at issue that's timing out) <system.web> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="9999999" maxRequestLength="2048000" /> </system.web> </location> </configuration>
And within the initialization of the webrequest made to the external server to send the video received from the client browser:
So with the execution time limits on both the webform as a whole and the connection made to the external server, I'm at a loss for what timeout is left unconfigured, or how to determine such, when I continue to get the following error: Unexpected error executing Brightcove Upload:...........................
I have an aplication in asp.net MVC and using telerik grid for displaying the record. Now one of my field has some large text about 1000 character due to which the text is getting extended vertically and layout is not looking good.
Is there any way to show some specific number of character in the column and show the whole text in a tool tip on mouse hover or any other way to show the complete text for that column.
Good day, i have lookup box in an aspx page I edit using notedpad & changed the query but now thquery goes to the next line and i get the error: Tag not well formatted.
I am using AJAX Toolkit's Calendar extender control.
When the control is rendered on page, the day names are 2 character long and shown as "Su", "Mo", "Tu", "We", "Th", "Fr" and "Sa".
Instead, I want it to be rendered as 3 character long format as "Sun", "Mon", "Tue", "Wed", "Thu", "Fri" and "Sat". note that I further need to localize this application too. So, I probably need some setting that could do the magic instead of overwriting on some server side event to achieve it.
There is probably some settings that I am not aware of.
The code for localizing the Calendar extender is as follows (in case if you need to test).
Assume the above contents resides in a file. I want to write a snippet that removes any line which has empty string "" and put escape character before the middle quotations. The final output would be:
The outer " .... " is not considered special chars. The special chars may be single quotation or double quotation. I could run it via find and replace feature of Visual Studio. However, in my case i want it to be written in c# or VB.NET
I am trying to match a username to a userid which are in 2 different sql tables. Here is my select statement:
SELECT aspnet_Users.UserName FROM aspnet_Users INNER JOIN aspnet_starterkits_Projects ON aspnet_Users.UserName = aspnet_starterkits_Projects.ProjectManagerId
When I run this i get an error message: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier" Is there anyway around this? Or a different select statement etc?
I have a string with 100 characters and it is for me too long in one line. I want to make NewLine after each 25 characters. For example:
Instead: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua."
I have a string that came from an old database of unknown character encoding. I am having trouble encoding/filtering the string to show the correct text.What the data looks like in the database: Marronnière à quatre pansWhat we need the string to show up as: Marronnière à quatre pansSpecifically, I am having trouble parsing the string so I can display the character à (à)This is an asp.Net 2.0 site written in VB using a Sql Server 2005 Database. Not sure if it matters, but data comes from a column with this collation: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_ASI've tried encoding the string to various encodings in the code to no avail. I've also passed the string (encoded different ways) into a byte array to find a unique byte pattern for the bad characters without success.
