SQL Server :: Insert Data From 2 Tables Into The 3rd Table?

Mar 18, 2011

I have 3 tables. I need to insert data from 2 tables into the 3rd table.

The first table has 2 fields -- c_id, c_key

The second table has -- t_id, u_id, partial_c_key

I need to insert c_id, u_id in the 3rd table.

Problem is partial_c_key in the second table contains only a part of the c_key in the first table.

First table:

Second Table:

t_id -- u_id -- partial_c_key

In the data above partial_c_key 200 has 3 c_ids in the first table (1,2,3 with values 200A, 200B, 200C) and 301 has just 1 which is 301A.

In the 3rd table I need to insert c_id, u_id so the data should be

u_id -- c_id
23 -- 1
23 -- 2
23 -- 3
36 -- 4

How do I write a query to accomplish that?

SQL Server :: Change Data Capture Records The Changes Like Insert, Update, And Delete To A Table?

Oct 26, 2010

CDC or Change data capture is a new feature in SQL Server 2008, which is an ability to record changes to table data into another table without writing triggers or some other mechanism, Change data capture records the changes like insert, update, and delete to a table in SQL server.I have sql 2005 and I have created triggers and tables CDC to capture the data. everything functions good and the data is being updated in the _CDC tables. all i need to do now is to generate the updated data as a report (excel/html)- what should I do ......?i need to show only the updated columns when user selects the date periods ( Range between dates ) and the person name - i need to display any updated info about that person during that period. So this updated columns about this person should be displayed in excel formatted column wise.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Update GrivView From A DropDownBox

Nov 4, 2010

I have this SQL in a non-working query:

SELECT Pub, Street, Neighborhood, RelativeAddress, Crawl FROM ListofPubs WHERE (Crawl = N'@ Crawl')

That doesn't allow me to choose an item from my DropDownBox. So, when I try to configure my DataSource, I can only hit Test Query or Finish; there is no option to choose. I have another query, slightly different; which updates a GrivView from a TextBox;

SELECT [Pub], [Street], [Neighborhood], [City], [State], [RelativeAddress], [Crawl] From [ListofPubs] WHERE ([Pub] Like @Pub + '%') ORDER BY Pub ASC

This query works perfect! When I hit Next, I can choose ParameterSource = Control and ControlID = TextBox1.

I just can't seem to get my first query to let me choose a control, similar to what the second query does. I must be missing a step. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Forms Data Controls :: Error When Inserting Into Table - Cannot Insert Explicit Value For Identity Column In Table

Aug 11, 2010

I am working on a web app for an online photo album. It is the last project in Scott Mitchell's book: "ASP.Net 2.0 in 24 hours".

I am creating a page where users can enter new photo images. The functionality for uploading an image will come later. I am working on just inserting a new row into the Pictures table with an optional category, a required title and a required description.

I am getting an error when I try to insert a new row.

Here is a screenshot of the page with a shot of the dropdown list.

The Categories are user-specific. I am getting the correct values retrieved.

There are two pretty simple database tables involved here.

NOTE: The CategoryID and PIctureID are both autoincrement integer columns.

The page uses a DetailsView that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Pictures table. (The DetailsView's Default Mode property is set to "Insert". The "Enable Inserting" checkbox is also checked.)

The dropdown list uses a dropdown control that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Categories table.

When the "Insert" button is clicked the CategoryID value associated with selected (Category) Name on the dropdown list will be used along with the Title and Description values to insert a row in to the Pictures table. (If no Category value is selected, then a null value will be used for the CategoryID. This is OK because the CategoryID column in the Pictures table allows nulls.)

My problem is that I am getting this error:

Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'Pictures' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.

(FYI: I have the full version of both Visual Studio and SQL Server.)

Here is my source code for the page:

Forms Data Controls :: Dropdownbox Which Selects Records Based On Criteria?

Aug 22, 2010

I have a dropdownbox which I want to use to search records based on a timescale. The gridview populates results based from that search.

So here is how I want to work this;

If a user selects "today" - a list of records input today are populated. If "this week" is selected, a list of all records added within that week from todays date is populated.

I created a forum on this issue previously but to no avail whatsoever. How do I work around this problem?

Forms Data Controls :: How To Produce A Blank Record In A Dropdownbox Control

Mar 30, 2011

I have a dropdown box control, populated by an Access data source, and linked to a form control which renders an appropriate record detail when a selection is made. All works as intended. My issue is that each rendering of the page shows the dropdown box carrying the link to the first record, with the detail portion of the page already complete with the information for that record.

I'd much prefer that the dropdown box would carry some text, like "Click to select..." leaving the detail part of the page empty at the first iteration of the page, allowing the user to pick the first record. I can't seem to find any way around this problem with the control or the data, unless I add a record at the top of the file that carries the text.
