Security :: Cannot Access Subfolder Files In Secured Folder

Mar 7, 2011

My restricted files are all stored in ~/Secured folder on the root. Authorized users have no trouble accessing aspx files in that folder. Recently I added a part of an application whose files I wanted to keep separate and created a ~/Secured/HR folder. I am getting a "resource not found" error trying to use any aspx file in HR folder even after user successfully logs in, as if the file does not exist at all. Here is my web.config security settings:

[Code]....

Do I need to configure security for that folder separately?

Security :: Using Different Windows Login Credentials Whithin A Webpage?

Jan 22, 2010

Is the above possible? Basically i need it as I am creating a site where users can upload files to a shared network drive which is secure and has a system account

When a user clicks on upload file, If possible I would like the page to automatically kind of log in with the system account, copy the files and then log off. I know I could achieve something similar mapping a drive but would prefer not to do that for these reasons;

- Security risk if the mapped drive for some reason isnt removed by the code

- User may not have the drive letter free.

Security :: Secured Site Using The Login Control / Do Not Want Them Redirected Based On Their Login Status?

Mar 24, 2011

I am doing a simple secured site using the login control. I would like users to be redirected to their dashboard page once they log in, but after that if they choose to browse I do NOT want them redirected based on their login status. I am using the generic template provided in VWD with the basic login setup in the template including the tabbed ASP menu control - nothing fancy, nothing custom. This is intended to be something very simple and quick. Here is the code I am using for the page load...

[Code]....

So if I do this code WITHOUT the "IsPostBack", logged in users are always redirected to their dashboard and cannot see the hompage. However with that IsPostBack test, the redirect after initial login doesn't work.

I know this is extremely basic and simple, but I am restarting with this stuff after a year away, and I need a nudge.

I got an error about asp.net cannot find window emp folder, so I created one and gave the right permission and the problem went away. Three days later same problem happened and I went in and couldn't find my temp folder. This is on a live server so is there a reason for my windows temp folder gone out of the blue? Is it possible that my server host company does some maintenance that cleans up the folder? Also, what is the difference between NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE and servernameNETWORK SERVICE?

Forms Data Controls :: Writing Output To MS Word From A Secured Folder?

Feb 16, 2011

I've got an asp.net application (written in vb.net). I have a results page that spits out some calculations. Ineed to write out that output to MS Word. The catch is, this happens within a folder that is secured (only users that are logged in can generate
the word document).

Here's what I'm using to gen the document. This works ok when running it locally, but not when loaded to GoDaddy hosting.

[Code]....

My code seems works fine locally. However, after loading it to GoDaddy it only works on a non-secured (not subject to ASP Membership), but when trying to use it in a secured folder the page clocks and eventually closes out.

Initially, when my application was much simpler, I had no permissions and roles and my authentication mode was set to "windows". Afterwards, however, I added authorization, changed the authentication mode to "Forms" and ever since, when I try to login, I get the error above.

C# Multiple Login Pages Based On Which Folder User Attempts To Access?

Jul 15, 2010

I have developed an application in ASP.NET 3.5 which utilizes the Membership and Roles Providers and Forms Authentication to manage user access and profiles.

There are various area's of this application that are only to be used by an admin users whom login using their email and password and the rest of the users log in using their telephone number and password via their iPhone.

For simplicities sake, I would like to have two different login pages, one that is formatted for the iPhone and performs the correct validation for users adding a telephone number and the other for the application administrators.

I want to redirect the user to their respective login page based on which folder they are attempting to access. For example say I have an application structure like this

/Admin
/Couriers
/Customers
/Whatever
Default.aspx
iPhoneLogin.aspx
adminLogin.aspx
Web.config

I want to be able to redirect users who go to [URL]/Whatever to iPhoneLogin.aspx and users to go to [URL]/Admin to adminLogin.aspx

I'm writing a simple Intranet application using windows authentication. I want to restrict access to Safe/UCantSeeMe.aspx. I am aware of the AuthorizeAttribute, but this only works on methods. I also found a good post on doing this with the MVC pattern, but I'm not using MVC. This can be done with roles in forms based security. I read on MSDN that using windows based security means roles are based on groups, but it doesn't go into any detail. how can I restrict access to Safe/UCantSeeMe.aspx?

Security :: Protecting A Folder Using Membership But No Login Control?

Jun 23, 2010

I have a business site that I want to use to show clients their projects I am working on. I don't want these projects to be visible to anyone but the clients, so I give them a user ID and password. I want to use asp.net membership to manage the login IDs and passwords, but I want to use jquery to submit the login form (it's lighter and leaner than the login control). Here is what I have: Page with an html form for login .js file with the jquery calls & code in it httpHandler to process the information from the formI have the user to entering their ID and password, I am using jquery.forms.js to process the form, which calls the httpHandler and passes the form values to the handler. I have the handler check to see if the user ID and password are correct, if not, it passes back a message to be displayed to the user. If the user is valid, then I have it passing back the role of the user, which also happens to be the name of the folder the client needs to view. I have the page redirecting via javascript to the client's folder once they are authenticated. I have the location of the client folder setup in my web.config.

The problem I'm having is the page just redirects back to the login page, with the return url included (?ReturnUrl=%2fCTS%2f2010+Design%2fLasmer%2findex.aspx). I want it to go to the client folder (Lasmer in this case) once the user has been authenticated. Shouldn't it send me to the folder's default page once it knows the user is authenticated? Do I have a problem in the way my web.config is wired up, and do I need anything in the client folder's web.config?Here is the code for the web.config:

Here is the code for the handler:

Configuration->Security Page Fails To Create AspnetDB.MDF In App_Data Folder On Windows 7

Feb 12, 2010

I am having problems getting the security.aspx to load up on my primary development computer which is using Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows IE 8. Clicking on the ASP.NET Configuration icon from the IDE in the Solution Explorer within Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition loads up default.aspx with no problem. But when I click on the "Security" hyperlink to access "security.aspx" I get a message along the lines of "The configured SQL data source provider is not properly configured". It goes on to state a list of potential reasons for this problem. One that includes not having the proper credentials or permissions. Im almost 100% sure it has something to do with permissions because I can't even get to the "security.aspx" page from opening a new empty project. I have recently installed Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition on my laptop which is running Vista with all latest updates and this issue does "not" exists. I can click the "ASP.NET" icon, load up "default.aspx" and click "Security" and it loads the page with absolutely no issues.

I have discovered a weird workaround but I don't like having to do this. If I add the following lines to my "web.config" file from any given project I can get to the "security.aspx" page without getting any SQL messages about improper configuration or permissions.

<<remove "LocalSqlServer">
<add
name="LocalSqlServer"
connectionString="data
source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

Basically, what I have to do to get to the security page to load without error is add a remove statement and then I just cut'n'paste almost the exact same connectionString from machine.config in the Microsoft.netFrameWorkV2.0.5027config directory. This does away with the "Improperly configured SQL datasource message" and gets me a new error message along the lines of "Could not create a SQL instance". My memory is fuzzy on exact error messages since Im not at development computer right now. However, when I change the User Instance attribute from true to false, then I have success at last.

Security :: Login User Into Windows From The Service

Nov 22, 2010

Is it possible to remotly login into Windows using ASP? What I'm trying to accomplish is, that I could remotly call a ASP page on my server (Apache on Win Vista) that logs in a user on that system. For example remotly I start a Wake-On-Lan to start the computer (server). It boots up to the user login screen where I would have to enter my password to login to the desktop. Because the service is already running at that time, I would like to open a ASP page from my client that I could pass the windows user/password and the ASP-service would login the user on the server machine.
